****ing hell that some price bump

Vrt today would be €4k afaik. Then take exchange rates into account.

If it's 1.6 tdci mk2 Id be very weary of that focus I sunk some serious money into mine to keep it on the road for a year. I mean it would want to be reasonably low mileage, fsh, well mind and you would want to go over the engine very carefully. Id actually take the petrol megane over it I couldn't buy another 1.6tdci focus the night it left me stranded on the motorway for 5 hours was the night I burned my bridges with that car.

Anyway on another note I wouldn't get too obsessed with the kilkenny garage as we have one of the worst selection. After spending 2 days looking at cars and going to a good few main dealers in kilkenny most of what they have is crap secondhand wise. If you are near carlow Id certainly be talking a trip there.

In particular you have a row of garages on the hacketstown road 5 mins from carlow centre in that row you have dacia, renault, Citroen, jeep and there are others I'm forgetting all owned by the same guy and they are very sound to deal with my dad knows the owner well and a lot of the staff and they are very sound. Plus they would have a serious amount of secondhand cars carpark loads most not advertised. I mean you could give them a ring and see if they have anything either I was there on Wednesday and Thursday this week looking at cars for several hours both days and they never got sick of me just kept handing me keys and letting me work away. I would Imagine they would have a few petrol meganes 06-07 range.
You'd be nuts buying a car that old from a dealer tbh.

Yeah, there are different levels of report though.

My rule of thumb is if you're about to buy then it's worth spending the money. Also if you're gonna drive halfway across the country and spend €50 on petrol and waste a day then it's worth spending the money.

@colm_mcm and @bpmull - the car I am considering now is a 2005 Ford Focus saloon with the 1.6tdci engine. For sale by a local garage who we have always dealt with. Car is coming with fresh NCT and 3 months tax. Car is in an overall good condition and the asking price is the same as those advertised online by other dealers. Is there anything in particular I should be cautious about? If I get a good insurance quote on Monday morning then I reckon I could be taking it home with me.

You moving on from the civic colm?

Car shopping today with the neighbour. He was fairly set on another almera. My task was to source one. Went to a local dealer, I couldn't be bothered with private sales, seeing as yer man is so annoying to go car shopping with, more interested in talking shyte not relevant to cars. Spec is an alien word to him, but nonetheless I spotted a nice sve 2005 almera saloon. Body isn't rough, but isn't perfect, but he never keeps a car dent free, so doesn't really matter. Half leather seats inside, 6cd changer, nice alloys, and digital climate control. Fairly decent for a nissan I must say. He decided to buy it. €2K 120k miles with a fresh test and a valet. Picking up next week. Should keep him on the road for a while!

    The common faults would be;
-If 110bhp dpf needs additive added and can cause trouble not sure if it was on 2005 models

    -injector seals

-egr valves it's more of when it will go rather than if 200-300 euro just for the part

-various suspension joints wear quickly track rods, certain bushings

-oil sludge can block the extremely narrow turbo oil feed pipe starve the turbo and cause failure.

    - lack of fuel lift pump can cause issues when fuel runs low of some cars. The system completly relies on vacuum as there is literally no pump to the the fuel from the tank to the engine bad design really.

Unless it has a fsh and has only ever been serviced with correct spec 5w30 oil I wouldn't bother. look over the engine very carefully.

Any electrical wholesaler's. Flexible stranded core cable I'd assume with the appropriate colour insulation. Should cost about a fiver. What's it for so I can judge the core size? I'm assuming 16 sq

I suppose it depends heavily on the car and the dealer. Some are giving good deals on petrol cars in particular in order to clear stock and for cash flow. A good dealer will have the cars right going out service and anything they need done as well as a warranty given that has to be worth something.

What would be you cut off for buying of a dealer 2 or 3 years old ?

This is my first car to buy of a dealer so we will see how it goes but I'm happy with them so far.

I'm relocating the battery in the 900 to the boot, its right beside the turbo is its not gona last very long, and i need the space for something else, so it'd be blue and red insulation, or black and red

Black and red. Black is your negative or ground (-) where one end will go from the battery to the chasis and red is your positive (+) which feeds into the electrical system. There is a science behind it but 16mm sq flexi stranded will be fine for what you need. Keep in mind that these cables need to be properly joined when extended. Personally I'd rewire the supply to the fuse box and chasis. I'm not sure how the nct people will feel about it.

Gotcha, well once i get the bits I'll look at what way to go about doing it, I'll be getting a hand with it because i know fcuk all about electrics, so it'l be a learning curve!

Don't think NCT ever check anything to do with the battery.

Few cars have battery in the boot, my brother's Prelude does

Would it not be better/safer where it is now? I know with BMW's they're in the boot but they have a jump point up front, whereas you'd need to jump it from the boot everytime, not sure why but that'd worry me.

Its grand in either place, theres actually a little slot in the boot for it, like a mounting point, I got a quote off souhans too for a 3" downpipe so if the battery is away from all the heat its better for it plus it wont just blow up on me :o plus with it out of the way it leaves more room for stuff

    7. Check the battery for security and leaks.

    Reasons for failure

    Battery

    6 Mounting unsatisfactory.
    7 Risk of short-circuiting.
    8 Leakages.

They've never looked at mine in the E46
