    Done.

Could be a while before Microsoft get around to it though, so be prepared for a wait.

Just so everyone knows, this has been confirmed to be coming this month. Looking forward to it, even if I won't have much utility for it for ages.

Bah, after getting it confirmed on the preview boards, it's now been walked all the way back.

It's now not coming in the May build.

    See here.

Pretty poor form, but then that's what you get in a beta.

Not a surprise tbh with win10 being the focus.

Finally got around to updating my console last night, and luckily, I just missed out on an update that has been factory resetting everyone's consoles.

    Phew.

    I must have as well.

**** that, I can't afford a factory reset. It would completely **** my XB1 up with the 2TB inside it.

Ha, I wouldn't have been too bad, just re-download the games I'm playing, but having to spend ages setting up a hard drive again would be super rage inducing.

It surely would and I most certainly wouldn't feel like re-downloading 1300GB of games again especially on a 16MB connection!

Is this caused by a new update that came out last night? Thankfully not downloaded anything since earlier in the week. I presume they pulled it?

Got a message on my smartglass app inviting me to the preview programme. Will download later, thanks again for the invite.

Is it still ok to install it after the problems some of you have been having today with the latest update??

Yeah, I think it's fine, but be aware that stuff like this can happen. It's worst case scenario stuff though, it's pretty rare that anything bad happens.

The error that happened overnight was only available for a couple of hours.

Thanks for info, I downloaded and installed, just waiting for Microsoft to approve me. Says it can take up to 72 hours.

Some pretty decent features being added to XB1 Smartglass Beta this month:

    Xbox One and SmartGlass updates:

The Xbox team continues to work hard to bring the many fan-requested features on the Xbox Feedback site to Xbox One and Xbox One SmartGlass, with the following items being available to preview members this month:

Power on and off from Xbox One SmartGlass – The beta versions of the Xbox One SmartGlass apps for Windows, Windows Phone and Android will be updated to let you turn your Xbox One on and off.

Wireless Display app – Try the Wireless Display app to cast photos stored on your phone to your Xbox One, or to stream non-protected video content from your PC to your Xbox.

User-selectable power mode – Select your preferred power mode, either Instant-on or Energy-saving mode.

Voice messages – The ability to send and receive voice messages from the Xbox One messages app continues in preview this month.

Also the XBOX app for Windows 10 is getting a nice upgrade:

Loads of updates coming for the Windows 10 and Smartglass apps.

    See here.

    Highlights include:

Live TV streaming and PIP (picture in picture) support – For preview members with an Xbox One Digital TV Tuner (in 16 European countries and Australia) or a Hauppauge 955Q TV Tuner (available in the U.S. or Canada) attached to their Xbox One, you can now stream live TV within your home from your Xbox One to Windows 10 PC running the Xbox app. This feature is also available in Xbox One SmartGlass on Windows 8 PCs, Windows Phone 8, iOS, and Android devices. The OneGuide on mobile devices now also provides PIP (picture in picture) support, so you can continue to stream and watch TV while you are using the OneGuide.

Power on and off from Xbox One SmartGlass – The beta versions of the Xbox One SmartGlass apps for Windows, Windows Phone and Android will be updated to let you turn your Xbox One on and off. (Your device does need to be on the same home network as your console.) This feature request has more than 4,000 votes on the Xbox Feedback site. The beta versions can be found in the respective stores by searching for “Xbox One SmartGlass Beta.”

Wireless Display app – With more than 2,000 votes, Miracast support will be enabled on Xbox One for preview participants later this week, so you can mirror the experiences on Windows PCs (for example, Surface 2, 3, or 3 Pro; Lenovo X1 carbon; Dell Venue 8), Windows Phone 8, and some Android devices (e.g. Samsung S5, Nexus 7, Motorola Droid) that support non-protected Miracast connections. Try the Wireless Display app to cast photos stored on your phone to your Xbox One, or to stream non-protected video content from your PC to your Xbox.

EDIT: Beaten to it by MiskyBoyy. The most interesting for me is the support of Miracast. Essentially, if you've got a PC that supports Miracast, you will be able to stream PC games on your Xbox One.

Miracast is probably not great for game streaming to be honest, but I hope I can use it for certain streaming sites that don't have Xbox One apps - Yahoo Screen springs to mind for Community, RTE Player too I suppose.

The line "Try the Wireless Display app to cast photos stored on your phone to your Xbox One, or to stream non-protected video content from your PC to your Xbox" is making me uncertain about being able to do that though - are they offering full Miracast with this update and just highlighting some features for people unfamiliar with it? Or is that the only thing they're letting you do with it? Hmm, I guess I'll find out soon enough

Is there going to be the option of sending voice messages from your phone via smartglass. That'd be a cool feature (that I'd probably never use)

Yeah that's what it sounds like and tbh I would use it! :D

It could be me. But I never heard IOS support. Only Android and Windows.

There's a quick poll in the latest update that people should look at, asking whether your games record too many clips automatically.

Unfortunately, "Strongly agree" is the strongest one, personally I would have gone with "Hell Fcuking Yes" or something similar.

So apparently the new Wireless Display app was out for a while, and then had to be taken off the store. They accidentally had it down for $100, and as it was a quest, people were buying it without realising that it would cost them money.

    Harsh.

I'm sure that they'll get a refund, but it goes to show how conditioned into a task people can be.

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 10,787 Mod ✭✭✭✭CatInABox

Tried out the Wireless Display app last night, was fun to see my Windows Phone on a 40 inch TV. Also streamed from my desktop, but it really couldn't handle it, I have a feeling that was because of my 2560x1440 desktop resolution.

Going into the settings, you can see that it'll listen out for any authorised device, so that you can start streaming without going into the app.

Good first steps, but a fair bit of polish need.

Lifted this from reddit for mirroring from Windows.

For this to work from a Windows PC (running 8 or newer), your device has to support miracast. The requirements to do so are: a display adapter which supports Windows Display Driver Model (WDDM) 1.3, and a Wi-Fi adapter that supports Wi-Fi Direct.

How do you find this out? For the Display/Graphics driver issue - press Windows key+R (to open run) and then type in dxdiag and hit ok. Run dxdiag and when it is complete click "save all information." Open up the notepad file that you created and do a Ctrl+F to find "miracast." it'll either tell you if it's support or not.

If it supported, then time to check on the Wi-Fi requirement! To do so, go to start and type in powershell and run that. In the poweshell window, copy and paste this command: Get-NetAdapter | Select name, NdisVersion Your Wi-Fi card needs to be running at least 6.3 for the ndisversion.

If both of those requirements are met, then you're eligible to use miracast! On Windows 10, bring up the notifications menu and push "connected devices." Your xbox should pop as an option. For Windows 8, go to the charms bar>devices>project and hit "connect to wireless projector." You should then be able to find and connect to your xbox.

The Windows 10 game streaming to PC seems to be coming along pretty well. The verge had a hands on here.

Yeah sounds great, it's making me think I need a windows 10 tablet as soon as they become available...

It looks like they are just implementing the reverse of what they released in the wireless display last week and using miracast back to the other device from the xbox.

So casting to the xbox would seem to be a happy by-product of game streaming
