It looks like someone went over the whole front of it with a belt sander
I know it's cheap but it looks seriously rough and if the boot is closed which I think it is the panel cap is unreal.

looks like barbed wire caused the scrapes on the car to me...

Suggestions for a car. Max 2k euro, 1.5ish petrol, saloon, bit of nct anyway. This is to replace a 98 almera, dd throws up a lot of the newer almera. Are they as good as the previous model, or are they noted for problems.

I'm sick of playing taxi this past 2 weeks, so going car hunting over the weekend, hopefully snapping something up.
Is there much point visiting dealers to see if they have any trade in crap hidden down the back?

Newer almera not worth getting IMO. They feel cheap, not particularly good on petrol, not that well built and have some big flaws that makes a €1500 example a bit of a lottery.
Saloon civic or Lancer I say.

New model Almeras (especially pre-facelifts) are absolutely dirt

    saloon - yes
bit of nct - until october (and tax until january 2016)

A mechanic neighbour will be accompanying us before we buy. The last thing he will want is a typical alfa being brought up to him week after week :pac:

Ah no, the fella buying is a typical old man, toyota, ford vw, nissan kinda job, and has to be relatively local, mayo, ros area.

Ya something like that would be ideal. He's the worst driver, dents, scrapes all over his cars, so wouldn't like something nice being wrecked. One of them real tight old men, loads and loads of money, but always the poor mouth. Realistically, 1800 would be a push for him, seeing as his last car cost him 620 and lasted 7 years trouble free. Unfortunately he is now in the mindframe that all sub 1000 cars are the same.

Indeed. When applying for his permit last year, he needed his pps no. We were going through possible documents that it could be on. We came to a bank statement, he asks would it be on that, I knew well it wouldn't, but said it could be anyway so I could get a sneaky peak :pac: Was a savings account, with no transactions recorded on the statement, so the money is just sitting there. I nearly fainted when I seen the numbers!

I'd have some serious car if that was my bank balance!

Where's the issue...? Wishbone bushes being worn is it not easier to replace the wishbone? It is on the Alfas and a few other makes too,

Jesus H christ no... lol. The wishbone doesn't even come with the bushes. This is literally what you get with that part number:

    31126777851_LEM_2CB14693.jpg#20150416194026

Replacing the wishbone would leave you with the exact same bushes already on the car. It's quite literally the most idiotic thing I've ever seen quoted.

Replacing the bushes is a very straightforward job on the e46 (thankfully, cos it eats them). You can buy part 6 in the above image, which is the housing + bush pair, or you can get replacement bushes and have them pressed in.

Good an excuse as any to polybush it now.

It is on Alfas because they don't sell the bushes seperately, which is why you end up with some bushes polybushed and others not.
Cheaper than replacing a wishbone and should outlive the car.

To Prius or not to Prius ?

    are they worth the money ? I thought you'd get a half decent 08' one for about 4 - 4.5 K now ?

    Seen that coming alright :pac:

I just like the idea of cheap 08 tax, automatic box and half of the time wizzing around on a battery without having to plug it in to go again.

My usage wouldn't justify having a diesel again.

They are well worth considering, they have some great upshots, but i believe real world economy is TDi at best.
