Today I: Backed the bike into a bench in the garage and cracked the reg plate in half.

Where would I pick up a replacement plate and those plastic bolts for them somewhere in kildare/dublin?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,923 ✭✭✭Wossack

I got plates made up from some lad on adverts - custom sizes and all

I got those bolts with my tail tidy, but I think halfords do em too.. pricy though :/

Cracked mine myself, but the glue job has been holding up very well

At least it was only the plate.

I have ordered plates online and also had them made up while I waited in the local motor suppliers.

I made a few modifications to the VFR over the long weekend. I fitted new Delkevic cans so I can hear that lovely V4 growl and downloaded a better map for the power commander to go with it. The map was for a Leo Vince exhaust so it's not perfect but it's a lot better than the preloaded map the power commander came with. I had the mudguard off when fitting the exhaust and noticed I could remove the plastic bits and light from the number plate bracket and would basically have a tail tidy. I gave it a go and think it looks well. I can always put it back to stock if I change my mind

Those cans look great, make the bike more aggressive looking

Switched tyres to Conti Road Attack 2's. Jeez they make some difference. Bike feels like it's on a knife edge and just leans in to corners so well.

It certainly sounds more aggressive! My fork seals were leaking as well so I fitted wilbers progressive fork springs while i had them out. I haven't had chance to properly test those yet though but they are a bit stiffer

Was gonna get some two brother exhausts for the bird but instead went for some 390mm Beowulf Exhausts with Satin Black Finish. Got a nice discount on them too :D

Goodlad you want to be extremely careful changing the stock exhausts on the birds....it causes alot of problems. The stock exhausts are heavy for a reason they give the bike added stability and the bike was designed around that fact. Look on the honda forums alot of unhappy campers....

Give smiler a ring and ask him.

Ah i put in a few hours already reading up on the cbr xx forums about exhaust changes. Seen a load of complaints from lads alright but also seen a lot of great feedback from exhaust changes. Deffo wouldnt be putting stubby exhausts on and dont wanna put on 490mm exhausts, they are just too long.

Never would have thought that, you'd think changing the exhaust for lighter ones would be better.

It only causes stability issues at high speeds really, but you do get more agility and a quicker turn in rate, with blackbird's anyway....

Well you just need to keep it under 120 ;)

Does it affect the strength of the sub frame in any way.

No, but there are instances of the sub frame bending a little from the pillion getting on and off by standing on the left pillion peg on a regular basis, if the left exhaust is touching the swing arm its bent...only if she's voluptuous though!

Decided to treat the beast with a fresh sup of oil and filter from Lee honda. Picked up a can of ACF-50 also.

I also picked up a polishing kit from the UK. Im gona do my forks when I have the time. The kits worked out at €38 delivered.

Not just at high speeds blu3, also with full luggage and carrying a pillion. Its a huge game changer TBH. Have to be careful....

Nope, doesn't make a blind bit of difference with heavy luggage and pillion unless your doing 200+ around a bend. The pipes are 12 Kg, and your only eliminating some of that weight not all of it. If it was 4 in to 1 system then its different as the weight is not evenly distributed, goodlad is going for the dual cans so he shouldn't have a problem.

Well just going by what I was reading on a few different forums....granted some where in the US if that makes a difference.

You might have read the post by one of the members from cbrxx.com, he had major issues but turns out the previous owner had put in a 6 mm shim to raise the rear while on original cans, when he replaced them he wasn't aware of the shim. When he took it out the difference was like night and day!

Will do but I need to pick up some wet dry sandpaper first. Might be a week or two before I tackle the forks. I think similar kits over here are €45 upwards.
