Not as bad as the "prelude type r" mazda 6 I saw the other day but in fairness like there's something amiss to be sticking a nurburgring sticker and wonky badging on a car like that.

I wonder what cgi stands for, "common gimp inside"? :pac:

300 ponies inside it anyway according to what Wikipedia say for the CGI badge, not bad!

So did I when I first got the picture, needed to look it up :p Apparently it's some "extra economical" version. Still €1200 tax though :pac:

Still looks like a flaccid banana, maybe he felt some stickers would make up for the limp styling. Really not a fan of them at all. Some of the latest mercs are nice though.

Checked the plate. All cool. Everyone seems to jump at the worst scenario.

CLS was the first good looking Merc in about 2 decades. New CLA looks great in the right colour and spec, mighty tempting.

Couldn't agree more. There's a Gunmetal Grey(ish) CLA going around with 18's down here, looks class to be honest!

Huge fan of the CLA's frontend styling, not so much the rear end. It's too short

    Beep beep beep reverse Reverse!!!

Oh well, I'll blame the fact that practically zero powerful petrols have been sold since 09 especially in that segment. Whatever segment the banana boat fits in like.

Probably a silly question (And one that I feel like I may have asked before.. ) but if my tax isn't due, can I tax the car anyway?

In other words, if my tax expires in, say, July. Can I wander into the tax office and tax it for a year, tomorrow, and have it taxed til July 2016?

WTF would you be going near a tax office for?

I was sure that if you tax it early you actually lose months of tax as I thought it's a years tax from the month you tax it. I could be completly wrong though as I'm not that well up on the whole system tbh.

Bought motor tax online last wednesday, only arrived this morning and on way to work went through a Garda Check point. That was close.

My dad taxed his van a few years ago and filed away the cert in the office never taking out the disc next day went through checkpoint and almost got done for no tax it took a lot convincing to get the gaurd to believe it was taxed but I think they checked and it obviously was and let him off.

He also got two penalty points for talking on the phone even though he had hands free bluetooth kit at the time but that's another story. He fairly unlucky when it comes to penlty points.

Imagine how I feel. Went to the new drivers licence centres to renew my licence last Wednesday as the 10 years are up. Friday lunch time got pulled over by guards flashing blue lights, and they say I have no licence, i told them I am getting it renewed and have receipt. I have 10 days since Friday to call into guards with insurance cert and my new licence which I still don't have.

Rang the head office over drivers licence guy on phone said you shouldn't be driving with out licence, what kind of shít system do you hand in your licence and expect to go a few weeks without licence, what's the point of the new centres if they don't print out your new licence there and then as that's what I thought they done.

Stupid banana republic wasting money on centres around the country where filling out a form with required documents and posting them would be just as handy.

I just dont want the hassle of explaining I bought tax but it didnt arrive, I saw the guy in front of me showing the gard a picture of what I assume is his tax receipt, he was let off. I always take a picture also when I buy tax just in case.

How long was the tax out Chris?

    @wotzgoingon
If they had a brain cell between them the office would give you a temp license until you get your new one.

My wife was waiting 2 months to get here replacement Learner permit last year.

I am just anal about these things, it was only out since start of month.

Be expecting the new licence in the post tomorrow. I done mine on Tuesday afternoon of last week and got it this morning!

I was also told that I shouldnt be driving without a licence - I was kinda like "Umm okay so will I just leave the car parked here in Nenagh for approx 2 weeks and thumb a lift back to Thurles?" :pac:

Did not have a good experience there either. The office was closed at 5:30pm and I asked them at 5:15pm could I apply for the trailer licence too. The woman said I had to come back another day when I had the licence itself with me (complete lie, my friend was there the day before and he could get his full licence & trailer licence done together). So now another trip to Nenagh is in order.

Most gardai wouldn't bother you if it was only a few weeks out. But sure if you're spa about these things, you're spa about them! :P

The woman I dealt with never told me not to drive. It was on the back of my mind to ask but I just assumed it was fine.

No they would still do you for not displaying a tax disc and penalty points. Happened me before.

But I always tax my car this was a new car I got and had no tax on it the next day when I was driving around.

By being a few weeks out? You met a prIck! I've been in many cars with tax out for a few weeks, always under the month, and the drivers were waved on at a checkpoint.

Since she wouldnt let me apply for my trailer licence, I made sure to ask plenty of questions to waste her time :p

As Im now a "novice" driver, I just stuck the N plates up straight away and kept the reciept from NDLS in the car. But she said that I am technically still a Learner driver until I get my licence. So I couldve gotten myself in huge trouble over the last 9 days as most of my driving was done on the motorway.

    You were lucky I suppose.
