DeadHand, seriously stop. You're where many others were about ten days ago. Move on.

Sorry, I was unaware opinions required your personal approval before being aired on AH.

That's a load of dishonest, misrepresentative nonsense.

I never claimed what he he did was right or an acceptable way to behave. The only point I made is that a minor incident was blown out of all proportion and the subsequent vilification of the man was vindictive and unfair.

He made a mistake and behaved appalling in a moment of anger as almost every human being with a heart has at some stage. He didn't hurt the man in any significant way. He insulted him mildly. Like an honourable man, he admitted he was in the wrong and attempted to apologise.

You'd think he decapitated the man while reciting mein kampt to read the hysterical reaction here and elsewhere.

I'm not suggesting he should be reinstated as I feel he can turn this disaster to his advantage and reinvent himself. He is, in my opinion, better off outside the BBC that once proud institution that has devolved into the gelded, craven mouthpiece of British self loathing and crawling PCism. All human beings should attempt when faced by disaster to turn it to their advantage if at all possible, even when that "disaster" is mostly manufactured by third parties like this one. To readjust, learn and evolve.

All I'm suggesting is the witch hunt and demonisation of a difficult though basically decent man has been much uglier than the relatively tame incident he is being publicly pilloried for could possibly have been.

If we were all judged on and forever remembered for our worst moments, what kind of world would that be? What kind of life would anyone have?

Best of luck to the man. I hope he continues to have a wildly successful career as nothing will upset his sanctimonious, handwringing critics more.

Without you personally knowing the producer how can you state "he didn't hurt him"? He punched him in the mouth. That's a sackable offence in any workplace.

I've worked on sites with some of the meanest, toughest men you've ever seen and only once in 16 years have I seen one punch thrown. It cost the guy his job and his reputation was dirt after that.

I like Clarkson and I enjoyed Top Gear but i'm sorry - you cannot punch someone in the mouth full stop.

It's outrageous that people are still on this thread trying to defend the actions of this obnoxious oaf.

Motorheads are a strange beast at the best of times. The leaving school after the Junior Certificate so they can buy a Japanese import car. Wearing a Mitsubishi or Subaru jacket in public. Getting up in the middle of the night so they can watch men in cars drive around a circuit for about 2 hours. Thinking that a good way to spend a Sunday is to stand behind a stone wall looking at a bit of road as some mucksavage in a Ford Escort drives past. Defending Clarkson.

I see that the police are to take no further action. I'm glad. They've better things to be doing than looking into some little dust up, that many are trying to turn into WW3

You come across as a far bigger knob than Clarkson or anyone defending him.

How pathetic and lonely your life must be when you constantly feel the need to talk down to others.

The auld 'mindfulness' thing is well out of your reach

Well, others watch soap operas, costume dramas, X factor, football, big fat gypsy wedding or even housewives of orange county. I may not go out of my way to cultivate friendships with these people, but whatever you're into. Actually, tell us, so we can appropriately take the piss.
    Let me guess. Brony? :P

    Sigh.

Again, I'm not promoting violence or defending what Clarkson did or arguing it is an acceptable way to behave.

My only misgivings were with the hysteria over the situation, the demonisation of the man and how what was a minor incident has been inflated into some savage attack.

But don't let actually reading my posts break into the time it takes to construct posts that, while popular and nicely written, bear no relation to anything I wrote and counter in any direct way any of the points I made.

Read your posts and you are generating hysteria by deliberately underplaying the incident that led to this mess, taking a typical apologists journey to suggest there were two sides and it wasn't that big an issue, despite an employee being assaulted and the perpetrator at no time defending his actions and taking responsibility in the end.
The problem is your points aren't based in any kind of reality.
I probably know more than most about assaults at work, workplace injury and the policies and procedures surrounding them.
Everything done by the individuals and business in question was according to proper process.
The hyperbole on both sides afterwards was unnecessary and unhelpful.
And your mystifying belief that this is a hysterical reaction from a PC left media and that it wasn't that big a deal really is simply not true.
    So get over yourself.

I'd love to meet AVB in real life.

I imagine a white version of Chris Eubank wearing a monocle.

Ah, I don't think generalisation it is the way to go.
I don't know every petrol head so I can't express an opinion about them all.
I do know that every walk of life, every past time and interest, every hobby and passion comes with it the risk of meeting @ssholes and numpties.
Just natures way of getting rid of any lingering pesky naivety, and generating cynicism!

You are still not accepting the facts.

You are still trying to flog a dead horse

You still think you have a point.

IT WAS NOT A MINOR INCIDENT .

Look, it's pointless. Some people simply don't know that you should listen to sense and reason and not the voices in your head. We've had them om both sides of the discussion.
So instead of an argument either side, here's some kittens and puppies:

The injury may have been relatively minor, but punching a co-worker in the face isn't a thing of nothing. That's the point. Any employer would let someone go for punching a colleague.

So the BBC, generally considered one of the top, if not the top broadcaster in the world, pulled the plug on what was its biggest money spinner all over a minor incident!

I think you best re consider that.

Angus Deayton got a merciless slagging, so Clarkson should get about the same.
Hope they really stick it to him. Maybe they'll abuse and punch him? :P

    Who would that"oaf" be?

Beggin peoples pardon here, the 'oafs' seem to be on the side of those who 'support' Clarkson and his team of tools.

I think I'll give it a miss. HIGNFY is one of the jaded, forced and heavily-scripted shows on television. It will have Merton make a few quips at a Clarkson pretending (and failing) to be apologetic and circumspect about the whole thing. Quips that were agreed upon before hand between the BBC legal team and Clarkson's PR person. Steak might make an appearance. Cheap laughs will be had.

Clarkson, Merton and the little bald fellow with his small book of semi-humourous wry observations will then head back stage for a bit of jocular banter.

Spare me. I'd rather watch a Top Gear outtakes show to be honest. Which isn't saying much. Equally as forced and scripted. Moronic television.
