They'll stick by him, that's for sure. Hammond has the personality of a dead moth and I've met barflies who are far more entertaining than May.

Well, I quite like May. He's witty, intelligent, engaging and seems a likeable kind of bloke.
I'd take a car apart with him any day, he seems like a guy to tinker round in his shed.
Doesn't seem the guy who has any airs and graces about him.
If he had a 2 hour special on MG carburetors from the 50's, I watch it and tape it, so I could watch it again.
It's a question of personal taste.

Don't think so,should have been sacked for gross misconduct no matter if there was only a day left on his contract.

He'd spend the first 30 minutes rearranging his spanners. and jolly entertaining it would be.

People will make something of Tymon not filing a complaint, but that might have been out of self-preservation. Maybe he feared for his own job and wanted to play it down for that reason.

And in an epic example of victim blaming, he's received death threats. If he actually took the legal action he's entitled to take, he'd probably have to go into protection! :)

Justice done, nothing against Mr Clarkson, except I don't like him,you cannot go round alledgedly striking colleagues.

    End of story.

And sue the BBC for not actually sacking the tosser for his behaviour.

    Meh.

Clarkson is the only worthwhile thing on Top Gear these days anyway. Yeah he should have been sacked, what's the uproar about... He will get another job on another network, probably already has a ton of offers.

Maybe something new quality programming will be produced to replace it. Top Gear used to be quality of course, but should have been put out to pasture about five years ago.

And pointed out, they might be more constrained on a commercial channel. Sometimes big names travel well, sometimes they don't.

Quality programming on the Beeb you are having a giraffe.

    Meh.

A big who the F cares.

The thread has over 1500 posts, so I'm guessing a few do. I don't get it myself, I don't think the show is that special though it's entertaining enough.

I think Clarkson et al will do well in another show with a roadtrip format, since it's not really about cars. It was right he was sacked (or not renewed for the pedants), you can't just hit people because you're discombobulated.

I wholeheartedly agree with this. I would watch May spend two hours carefully arranging his spanners and sockets, while chatting away explaining the Hierarchy Of Tools followed by a complete history beginning with Solymon Merrick and J.J. Richardson up to present-day. :D

Whatever about Hammond, May is an extremely refined person. It takes a different kind of intelligence to find him interesting and its a lot higher than the level that would find a barfly moreso.

May is the hidden gem in that show, I like his non TG work. He's got more brains than the other two put together and multiplied. Hammond is probably good on radio, but no more than bland on tv.

Perhaps Clarkson will now have time to produce some more of his war documentaries. The one about his father-in-law was excellent.

I don't condone what he done but I will miss Top Gear without him I loved the christmas specials, I hope another broadcaster hires him and they can continue making it and James May and Richard Hammond join him

May is my favorite, but I'm disappointed to see Jeremy go. Hope the three get together for a new show. I find Hammond the least entertaining.

    Barfly ;)

Hard to argue that it's not the right decision. Whatever about his past controversies, you simply can't go around assaulting colleagues, especially in the manner he did.

The BBC own the rights to the name and all the assorted logos, etc. He won't be able to make "Top Gear" anywhere else. He could make another motoring show elsewhere that doesn't bear any relation to Top Gear though.

How's the petition going to reinstate him?

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

So the BBC have sacked him on the grounds they can't condone him. But are quite happy to continue showing him on repeats?
    Yeah.

Sorry, still doesn't deter me. You have to know that one of my favourite Youtube videos is a 30 minute tutorial on how to rebuild the rear caliper of an MX5.

    Yeah.

Think it's more of a case that a publicly funded broadcaster can't be seen to continue to pay someone who physically assaults people he works alongside.

Some say that people seem to be getting confused between "sacked" and "contract not renewed", and that Clarkson will be back on the TV before you can say Jim Davidson

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,457 ✭✭✭✭Kermit.de.frog

Interesting that May seems to be following Clarkson out the door. Both are getting on and don't have much to lose in broadcasting.

But Richard Hammond probably has to think a bit more whether he wants to go with them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,928 ✭✭✭Renegade Mechanic

May does look quite annoyed in that video..

you cannot go round alledgedly striking colleagues.

You can go around allegedly striking colleagues all you want I imagine, it's only an issue if you actually do strike them.
