Seems to be a lot of "ifs" "alleged" and "supposed" in this thread.

Also apparently Clarkson is a known fighter who hasn't been afraid to use his fists before....fairly sure it was a single punch to Piers Morgan.

I'll wait to hear what actually happened before I pass judgement.

Unbelievably he got his steak after all the carry on!

hopefully tenderised with loving care as it was kicked about the kitchen floor!

It's a good programme if your jaw slacks, you think violence is the only way to sort out inter-personal conflicts and you're such a beta you think Jeremy Clarkson is a prime example of a real man.

Ok this is just turning into pompous bollocks

Personally, I can't stand Jeremy Clarkson and so I don't think his suspension by the BBC is the end of the world.

Show hasn't been good for a few years now. Probably past it's sell by date.

    Same with Clarkson.

Last year, the CBC, Canada's equivalent to the BBC, had a problem with a hot-headed host of one of its shows, albeit one of radio. That the implosion, of that host (Jian Ghomeshi), had been, according to Vice magazine, "overdue", turned out not to be surprising in the end. Although Clarkson hasn't been accused (yet) of sexually assaulting numerous women, his hot-headed temper may very well make it time for the BBC to get rid of him. After all, even in unionized workplaces, employees are often fired for gross misconduct, and should be (at least in some cases, particularly if there's a repeated pattern of inappropriate behaviour or a very violent incident).

It remains to be seen if Clarkson will be fired, but it appears his days, as a BBC employee, may be numbered at last.

Couldn't agree more! A lot of people on the #BringBackClarkson hashtag on Twitter are saying he deserved it because his face is 'punchable' and because his name sounds all weird and foreign or something.

At least I think that's what they're saying. Most of their tweets are indecipherable.

Clarkson can be entertaining but there is a nasty, nasty under current to the guy too.

Question is is his entertainment worth the price of his pretty vile character particularly for a public service broadcaster?

I don't think punching someone like Piers Morgan makes someone a "known fighter". :P

So basically Clarkson assaulted someone in work and people are saying he shouldn't be suspended i.e they're operating on the presumption that if you're good at your job you shouldn't be fired.
For my own part, I'm fine with J.C. being replaced but only in so far as the show continues with a new presenter, but only if it continues in the same direction.

I don't think there's so much a fear of J.C. going as what might happen, either the show could end or be re-arranged around PC-Left principles - an outline for an "eco-feminist" Top Gear was published by the Guardian recently.

The petition nearing 1m signatures shows that some people like shows about fast cars, irreverent humour, ridiculous challenges and demolishing caravans.

Those people pay a TV license fee to the BBC so the Beeb has as much a right to cater to them as it does to sandal-wearers, muesli-eaters, PC-Leftists, Marxists and eco-feminists. Indeed it has a duty to do so.

Scenes of racist abuse were filmed on Top Gear?

Ah it wasn't racist. Some people need to lighten up. It was really "irreverent".

Do you not remember the time they laughed at Mexicans and branded them all lazy? Irreverent. Not racist.

Unless they screamed racist abuse at a Mexican, it wasn't "racist abuse" - as charged by 20cent.

If it was simply crude stereotyping, that would have been slightly different. Not great, especially from the POV of a PC-Leftist, but not "racist abuse" either.

The Mexican bit was actually trying very hard to be offensive, it had no comedy (or any) value whatsoever, it was quite baffling.

That's how I'd describe Top Gear in general so I guess that means I'm an eco femi-nazi, sandal wearing vegan.

    Just musing:

How might the scene have played out if Tymon, once Clarkson started what was apparently a prolonged rant, had said "I don't have to take this sort of treatment; I'm off to bed.".

I'm guessing that Tymon might have been in trouble for failing to look after the star. So he had to stay and suffer Clarkson's bad behaviour.

In my book, subjecting a work colleague who has less power to a 20-minute diatribe in a public place, including using offensive language and threatening to have him dismissed from his job, is grounds for disciplinary action.

Considering what Piers Morgan did to him, I'd have done worse then a single punch.

I think if Clarkson was drunk and did call the director a lazy Irish cu,nt and punch him then he should apoligise .Its not fair if has been reported in the media that because of what happened that that directors life is now being ruined and getting death threats. Its about time Clarkson stopped hiding and came out and said what happened once and for all and just fix it. Then maybe they could finished the last few episodes of Top Gear and he can then go do whatever he likes after that.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

It sounds to me like the wheels are coming off for Clarkson. He looks like sh!t these days, he's separated from his wife, he's clearly drinking too much.

He needs to get himself together somehow. Now is as good a time as any.

If you simply don't care for Top Gear no. If you hate it and consider its ideals to be anathema to yours then maybe.

Of course, if it's the former, I'd wonder why you're in this thread ...

I'm coming round on this issue.
I have to say that initially this sounded like a bit of an argy-bargy being blown out of all proportions by PC zealots determined to see Clarkson's head on a pole being hung out a window of the BBC.
It looks more and more like a serious incident and I hope that the inquiry will shed some light on this, until then we won't get to hear too many details from either side. I hope Oisin Tymon gets his say and that Clarkson gets what's coming to him.

Maybe losing his job, being sued for a small fortune and windin up with a criminal conviction would be just the wake up call he needs to turn his miserable life around

I have only his best interests at heart :)

Fast cars, fast car racing, irreverent humour. And plenty of comedy in challenges. And caravan demolition.

    Fun for men basically.

How is reviewing Nissan Micros going to be any less dull than driving a lamborghini across Europe?

This is a fairly typical Irish response, I have no interest in the topic so every one that does must be an idiot.
