Find it difficult to believe you'll get a GTI a year and generation younger for the same money as a bog spec 1.4. But this is Ireland. And this is not the best thread for that kinda question. Try a new thread in the buying forum.

No, the newer polo is a 1.6tdi, they just posted a photo of the GTI

The vag 1.6tdi engine is very good certainly a lot better than the 1.6 Psa. Ok power wise not going to win any races but that's hardly the point of it. They are very very good on diesel even tipping around. What bhp are they in the polo no doubt they are detuned and not 105bhp

Just done a cartell.ie report on both my 2009 model & a 2010 model found online.

    2009; 1.4 TDI 80BHP
    2010; 1.6 TDI 75BHP

Kind of a shock to see that it has less BHP, but it does have a bigger engine :pac:

But the 1.4.!! Is that not a 3 cylinder?

Yes it is, and it sounds like its about to throw a conrod.

Did you not have one if these in a cordoba?

    I had indeed.
Some rattle off it when ticking over. Was able to shift handy enough for a small engine and was damn economical.

    Folks, need some advice.
I am currently in possession of a 2009 Vw Polo 1.4tdi . Its very basic and im not too gone on it.
Im after findind out that I could sell it and buy the 2010 model for the same money, the only difference is that it'll have a couple of thousand more km's than whats on mine!

Does anyone know what the 1.6tdi engine is like in the 2010 model car or what they are like to drive?
    (Thanks in advance!)

*These are photos from google, mine is a black 5dr with no alloys - the 2010 i'd be interested in would be similar to the second photo

I found the 1.6tdi actually feels an awful lot slower to drive than the older 1.4. The 1.4 is very noisy but you could still certainly hear the 1.6's engine noise in the cabin.

You're right in saying the 9n2 polo is very very dull, but in reality although the 2010 onwards model is styled a little better on the outside, the interior is still very bland.

Selling your 9n2 and buying a 2010 1.4 diesel fiesta would be nice imo.

Engine is very loud in the Polo. The Mondeo engine is like a mouse compared to it :pac:

Really? Im heading to Kilkenny tomorrow so im hoping to test-drive one and see what its like. The 1.4 engine is ridicolously loud, very irritating.

The good side about the 1.4 engine is that it is very very economical. €50 into the tank and it'll bring me from Tipperary, up to Antrim and then back. The fuel light usually comes on when i'm driving in the driveway :pac:

The Fiesta is nice too, but I kind of want to move away from Ford's (Have a Mondeo atm, recently had a '00 Fiesta)
No doubt that I will be considering a Fiesta when im making my decision!

Took Gapford out for a spin earlier while the weather is still nice. You'll have to excuse the bodywork atm, really have no time to sort it / and I can't find the correct paint anywhere, or indeed the paint code. Running sweet as ever.

I live about 3 km from that garage and avoid it at all costs wouldn't go to it unless I'm really stuck for parts I normally try buy parts in vw carlow or cork. My parents have had way too many bad experiences there. Is there not a fairly good vw garage in tip.

I was in Kilkenny for the afternoon anyways and it was ideal the way that there are 4 or 5 garages all on the one stretch of road.. What's so bad with the garage may I ask?
Yeah there's a good one in Thurles and another bigger garage out in Tipp town!

They just like messing customers around and enjoy lying to them a lot too. My parents never actually bought a car there well my dad had a deposit on a car years and years ago and when he went to collect it they had sold it to someone else. When my dad was buying a golf van late last year he said he'd try them again just because they are local they gave him a cash price he came back a week later to try do a deal they had jacked the price up 1000 euro and said the last price was a mistake.

We brought our octavia into be serviced it had one warranty issue they said they had done up a report and sent it to skoda to see if it would be covered turns out they never sent the report to skoda or even documented the problem just lied to us about.

I could think of another 4 or 5 problems we had but I'm not going to list them. Parts department is useless too and overpriced by 30-40% on other main dealers.

Wow, thanks for letting me know! The salesman is suppose to get back to me on Wednesday with details of a car so it'll be interesting to see will he.
To be honest, I'll probably deal with my local Volkswagen dealer if I am getting a Volkswagen as I know him v well and has a very respectable history!
Either way, the Golf that was there at Lahart's was a smashing car :D

    Yep lovely car alright.

I'm not trying out you of them either that's just my experience with them. They sell plenty of cars so some people must fine them good. But if your local dealer is good then for handiness it probably worth buying them although I suppose it all comes down to price let us know how you get on with them. My dad bought his golf in newmarket in cork and the service you get down there is unbelievable I never experienced it in any other garage. That morning there was someone there from galway, Limerick, us from kilkenny all collecting cars so it does show that they are attracting people from all over ireland.

I had a look in the commercial showroom but there wasnt much around. Just 3 cars in the showroom and the salesman was outside moving cars. We left there and headed across to the Skoda and Volkswagen part.
I've to head down to Cork in the next few weeks, I'll certainly make sure to take a detour to have a look at that garage :)
My local Vw dealer, Tom Harvey, is a tad bit expensive but he is 100% honest & reliable and would do anything just so your vehicle is A1 again.
