Funnily enough I may actually be in the market for just this kind of car in 12-18 months time, but an ST1 won't be on my radar, I'd go to the UK for an ST2/3 before I'd buy an ST1 here. Just trying to give you insight into the exact type of buyer you'll be hoping for in that time frame, but we can agree to disagree.

I'd do the exact same thing, and have done twice in the past. I couldn't find the spec I wanted here so bought in the UK.

Just to balance things out...I like the highest spec I can afford (currently driving a Fabia vRS with full climate, all round electric windows, cruise control, heated seats, electric sunroof, upgraded radio, voice control, upgraded wheels, bluetooth, upgraded paint option, sunset glass etc...) but given the rarity of the Fiesta ST over here and the poor exchange rate, I probably wouldn't travel to the UK for a bit of extra spec.

This is a surprise. The Ford is also €15,000 less expensive.

p.s. My Fiesta ST is due here in a month.

My biggest problem with new Fords is the seats, you sit so high in them. It feels like you are on a stool. They are nice seats though, I assume the ST comes with nice Recaro's or similar?

Yeah Recaros seats are standard ok. They get the thumbs up in every review I've read too.

Picked mine up last week. Was about to buy a C-Class but drove the Fiesta. What a hoot! I've had a Focus ST and this is better plus getting 40mpg. Seats are more comfy too.

Might be tempted. Even the dreaded road tax is a relatively inexpensive group B1 (138g) so €280 p.a. Should be a fun car to drive.

Irish prices look set to start at c.€26k.

Them were the days when Honda got 100hp/litre in TDBTE, (the days before the environment)

Are you UK based or did you import?

p.s. Good luck with your new ST!

Cheers Henry, yeah based in the UK, moved away 6 years ago. 700 miles on it since Saturday. Will bring it back to Ford in March for a remap

Mountune upgrade looks pretty decent. Doesn't invalidate your warranty either.

    Fair play Henry.

They were talking about hot hatches on Top Gear the other night and Hammond kept saying your one was the best of the lot.

    There are two around.

I was in the passenger seat of one (close to sh!tting myself) when we encountered the other and chased him up the M8. :D

It's now delayed further. Mid April. I'm starting to wonder will it ever arrive.

I sure did, but it's long gone.

I might be tempted to awaken the MkII Escort RS2000 soon though.

    UPDATE

The car arrived in Cork yesterday apparently. It'll take a while to get through inspection, customs, and transport to the dealer but I'm hoping to have it soon enough - Friday would be nice.......

Saw a test on fifth gear last night and the fiesta won it against the pug 208 and clio.
