He made a joke about holding a gun to the head of the editor of Ireland's biggest selling newspaper. This is the leader of a party who aspire to being in government. We need to shine a very bright torch into the darkened corners of SF. No other party leader in Europe would make such a joke at their own party fundraiser. It's disgraceful.

    *yawn.

Ye know, it really is disappointing when, considering all the controversial things SF have been associated with over the years (the killing, the bombing) they go on about non-events.

I could say its disappointing people don't just discuss the actual current SF topic, but as stated in post 2, that wasn't going to happen.

It's actually very relevant. Shows a lack of any sensitivity towards the families of the people that Sinn Fein/IRA murdered over the years. A disgusting remark.

You won't discuss it yourself. You were the second post and you were straight in on the offensive, attacking posts that hadn't been made yet. It's almost like you want to derail the discussion.

I asked you several posts back for your opinion on the topic of the thread and you haven't replied. Care to give us your view? Or do you only engage to defend SF and Muslims from insults that haven't been given?

How about you give an opinion on the actual topic of the thread, rather than racing to defend insults that haven't been made or chasing phantom Islamophobes?

Phantom Islamophobes? At one point, you couldn't step into the AH forum without falling over one.

I see his point about the hierarchy of victims but personally have no problem with the bridge being named after her.

Nothing about it in this thread. Nodins first two posts had no relevance to the thread, just an instant attack on any of who would dare criticise SF and some pointless dig about Muslims.

They are above criticism, mainly because if you do criticize their policies, eg Mary Lou on the radio lately, they don't have an answer for you, so it's for the best if we don't critique.

    Pie in the sky policy.

In a thread about SF, especially on where posters disagree with their stance, there will be criticism of SF. It's the same with any party. It doesn't equal shinner bashing to anyone except those who blindly defend them at all costs.

To try to dismiss it as that is to show you're unable or unwilling to refute arguments you disagree with. Lazy frankly.

Like I said, unable or unwilling to refute what posters are saying so you have to resort to that.

I suppose you had to be badgered into giving an opinion on the topic of the thread so I shouldn't expect any better.

Ah in fairness for this they deserve it, along with the abstaining in the fatal fetal abnormalities bill...turning out to be as bad as FF and FG and they haven't gotten any power yet.

That would be fair enough, tbh. Instead we usually get guff about 30 years ago, Gerrys stand up career and social snobbery.

No relevance to the thread? Nodin's initial post, was a simple observational comment about where this thread will likely end up. Since he's a long time member of Boards.ie, I assume he's likely seen it all before around here and is therefore well qualified and perfectly entitled to predict the likely outcome of this thread.

It shows that SF in power will have to make decisions that not everyone will like. They've gotten away upto now with waiting and seeing which way the bandwagon is heading before jumping on it.

In saying that, the Patsy Gillespie bridge has a ring to it.

This type of thing really doesn't surprise me. This is the same party who had one of their TD's drive to a prison to pick up the murderers of Jerry McCabe. The only people they commemorate after death are their comrades who died for the cause. Some of them killed while planting bombs designed to murder and maim civilians.

Or is it because of a perceived persecution complex supporters of Sinn Fein have, because they are always under fire from people with coherent arguments about their policies and actions?

This ridiculous objection to the naming of a bridge being a gold plated case in point.

    Very sensitive nipples.

Page 2 and it's already descended into mindless bickering, not to mention this is more suited to Politics Café, so I'm closing this up.

If anyone wants to discuss this in a civil manner, you can start a new thread in the Politics Café.

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test
