Me and the GF are looking for a villa in the canaries atm for a holiday in April, Trawling through the usual sites including owners-direct when I stumbled upon this gem today:

    http://www.ownersdirect.co.uk/accommodation/p8054482

Nice villa nothing to untoward until you get to the notes on accommodation where it states

"Please do not smoke within any rooms in the villa ash trays are provided outside at the patio areas. families and couples only, no same sex couples"

Aside from being highly immoral is this legal?

It would seem they are also discriminating against those in platonic relationships.

Illegal in Ireland for sure and I would say also in Spain as they are probably members of the European Court of Human Rights

Can't see the problem with this, it's their home, their choice. Maybe religious grounds are the reason.

Same as the cake shop up North really, but i suppose the gay brigade will be all over this too

Whatever about legality, morality is far from objective.

Their house, their rules. As a parent I wouldn't get offended by a villa with a 'no kid's' policy. You have to wonder what the problem is though.

Yes and no. If they said no blacks / Irish / Asian instead, do you think that would be ok?

Surely you just book it as two individual guys / girls to get around it anyway?

    Awful discrimination

    Here's more I found

    "Exclusively gay resort"
    "Adults only"
    "Men only"

    http://www.travelgayeurope.com/gran-canaria-gay-hotels/

    Hound them out of buisness

Why would you it's perfectly understandable, Kids draw on walls; break things. Gays however are the same as any other couple and it's nothing but pure discrimination to not allow them in your villa because of their sexual orientation.

    How about "Men only"?

Do women draw on walls too?

It's their home. I don't agree with them but if they have issues with it that's their right to refuse it.

So people in the states had a right to refuse to serve black people make them use separate bathrooms not partake in sports and not enter certain schools?

It was their right so we should have just let them at it. The world doesn't need to move forward or anything.

That was state policy though, this is a private enterprise. I don't know though - could be a bit of a legal grey area.

But even though it's their home and so on and so forth, people can still criticise the policy.

That's a business, totally different to your home where it's not a crime to refuse entry to people.

Theres reasons for not wanting kids, i.e.. breaking valuables..
Whats the reason for no gays? The only one is bigotry

I think this one is obvious.

Gays will see past the cheap furniture and lazy interior design. Then they'll go on Yelp and that's the end of their little money maker.

It is bigotry and I wouldn't book this villa for my holiday in light of that but I believe people should be free to decide who stays in their home.

Then they shouldn't use it as a business
