I may eat these words a year or two down the line, but Kane makes me think:

    Flash-in-the-pan-640x277.jpg

    Couldn't disagree more.

this summer i say we just let go off everyone who is forcing LVG to play a certain formation with certain players. Get rid of RVP and so far i'm not pleased with falcao. Harry Kane would be pretty good but i don't think he will transfer. As much as i love him, I think we need to get rid of mata. Defense wise all we need is that vidic like figure to prevent set piece troubles like yesterday. Someone that can stand above carroll and win every header that comes his way

Wayne Rooney in the Premier League during 2015:

    5 games
    0 goals
    0 shots on target
    0 assists
    67 unsuccessful passes.

Absolutely staggering  ... now if this doesn't tell LVG that its not working I just don't know what will

I'd be happy going into next Season without RVP, Mata, and Falcao. i like them all but it's going badly wrong and Rooney needs to be played up top centrally with DiMaria and another pacey winger either side of him.

    That's what Januzaj is.

Kane has 20+ goals and it's only February. He's also taken apart Chelsea and Arsenal. It's not like he's a one trick pony either who will be figured out easily. He's looks like a very well rounded striker.

I know he's playing out of position which is total bullshit, but at the same time, that's fucking shocking. Rooney has to take some of the blame for such poor performances.

Looks like Fellani getting the nod for Wednesday night.
Jan & ADM not winning enough 2nd balls.

"We need the guts to play football along the floor. That we have done in the second half," said Van Gaal after the change of tactics brought a 1-1 draw.

"With him (Fellaini) we have more power. With Adnan (Januzaj) and (Angel) Di Maria, we have more creative players. The second ball you cannot always win with these players.

"But you have to win (the ball), otherwise I have to line up always (with) players like Fellaini."

I'm only discussing Kane because I'm pretty certain alot of clubs will be looking at him in the Summer, including potentially ourselves.

I think he will go on to be one of England's best strikers over the next year.

He is destroying top teams. Not potentially, currently. He scored 2 against Arsenal and 2 against Chelsea (on top of 2 assists). The Spurs fans were screaming from him to start regulary all season as he was showing incredible form in the Europa league and yet was dropped for the league. Finally got his game as hasn't looked back.

He seems to be able to take a ball, assess a situation and react with incredible accuracy. He looks like he has all the time in the world when he actually doesn't. He possesses composure way beyond his years.

He will want to stay at Spurs but I would be stunned if he was there come September.

In those 5 games he has attempted 4 shots.

0 goals and shots on target out of four attempts is not strange. Its the system making Rooney and many other players look bad, although they are not 100% blameless but a bad formation and players out of position equals many many problems for a team.

    For example

LVG is the real culprit here.

Posted that yesterday,it's nearly a year now, last March we came from behind to beat Villa. For a club famed for being able to do it,that's a terrible stat.

We don't need to go searching old posts. You are saying yourself, in the bolded sentence, that you thought United had a chance of winning the league. There's no way you could have thought that if you really believed that United had a rubbish squad.

Was more about capitalizing on the uncertainty of our rivals and new regimes, then feeling assurance in the squad at the time.

Clearly I need to re-evaluate when I use the word rubbish or garbage. I had issues and reservations about the title winning squad might be more apt.

Kane has been really fascinating, especially this season.

Obviously there is a garbage heap of players the British press spunk a load over after one good game, and then fail to live up to the hype. Wilshere being caught taking a hit from some pipe while out injured, he's the personification of it for me. One minute being lauded as the English Xavi and then out injured for another six months etc.

There has been loads even this seasons, Berahino, Ings, Austin. All potential flash in the pan style material. While Kane could of course go that way, there is something really nice in seeing a local lad come through and literally tear defenses apart. Week in week out. He's not doing it once a month or being inconsistent as ****, he is actually week in week out doing it.

I don't know if Pochetino was intentionally gently breaking him in, or if he felt he couldn't drop Soldado and Adeybayor, but Kane has made himself number 1 there.

Stark contrast to Januzaj. One burst on the scene last season against Sunderland, nothing much since then. Labels of being the best youngster in Europe were far wide of the mark.

Then again I'm just normally reluctant to jump on the positive train for a new young prospect. Too many fall short. But while there is talk of Januzaj "regressing" under Van Gaal, I don't think he was ever progression at a meteoric rate.

Patience probably seriously required with him. And thought a potential loan move abroad or even another PL team would be a good shout. Don't think he is justified in the starting 11 with Mata, Fellaini and Herrera on the bench.

the thing I like about harry kane is, he is a pure bully. He smashes the ball when he is near the goal, very much like a young alan shearer, if he goes on to have half the career shearer had he will have done well

He's been really underestimating the quality of the league, you could see it in the team he picked yesterday away to West Ham who've been very, very good.

Play all the forwards, all the time...no one to win it back and break up the play, no one to press effectively, no one to build up the play.

As a side note. Di Maria looks disinterested, I wouldn't be surprised if he is only stopping by....

Januzaj is still a young player full of potential. By the looks of things we never would have produced some of the guys we did if some posters had their way.

Saying he didn't do much bar the Sunderland game is rubbish. He was about the only bright spark in an otherwise desperate year last season. He's still a kid and it'll take time. I know I'm going to get a lot of smart answers back saying "I always knew he would be great and he wasn't that bad" but Ronaldo had some chronic games for United in his early days aswell - mainly to do with his final ball and rolling around a lot when he was too light. Now I'm not saying he's going to achieve to that level but I'm positive he will succeed.

We can keep discarding young players like Januzaj and Wilson and signing big money players but that's not what the club is about IMO.

Edit: if anything I'd be much more worried about how horrifically bad and disinterested Di Maria has been. He pulled out of a number of challenges yesterday when we were a goal down and he seems to try and attempt a killer pass or ridiculous run every time he's on the ball.

I wouldn't be advocating he be discarded, that wasn't my point at all.

I just fail to see how anything he has done justifies him starting a game like yesterday, ahead of Fellaini, Herrera or Mata.

I also mention the Sunderland game because I fail to remember any other major highlights from last season. He's raw, hopefully in time will develop. I'm not advocating a sale, I just wouldn't be advocating him starting. Or touting him as high as some people were last season.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,265 ✭✭✭paulbok

Kane will definately be of interest to the top temas in the PL as top class English talent is really scarce (they, England, are looking good up front at the moment, but lacking elsewhere) and the need to fill the quotas.

With that in mind, does anyone know, and save me having to look it up, how are United fixed with the quotas? It must be tight now with Fletcher gone and Amos & Cleverly probably gone in the summer.
If say Smalling, Raf, Jones and Evans are shipped out in the summer*, would we need to have to buy "British/Irish" just to bulk up the numbers?

*(Not saying they all should go, but I could see 2 gone by September).

We have Rooney, adnan, Wilson, Amos (still there?), shaw, young, carrick, McNair or Blackett if they stick around.

Then any other youth team players I have forgotten. Think we are grand

Of course, sorry by discard I meant just to not give game time. The problem yesterday wasn't all that much with Januzaj's play it was the disjointed look of our midfield with Rooney in it. Januzaj was the only player providing width in the side and West Ham just doubled up on him and then crowded the middle somewhat leaving us with very little width on the right hand side with Valencia being one on one with their left back a lot of the time.

He's obviously performing in training and that's how Van Gaal is picking his sides. And contrary to this theory that loads of guys can do it in training and not do it in matches - I'm a firm believer that the opposite is true and eventually a player performing at a high level in training will come good in time.

But like every United fan here or anywhere - the sooner we see an actual midfielder in place of Rooney (and him moved back up front) in midfield the better. That's the main issue I have at the minute.

Could Wilson play on the wing, Welbeck style? His pace is badly needed.. ie.. :

    ...................DDG.....................
    ..Raf...Smalling.. Rojo.. Shaw.
    ........ Herrera.... Blind...........
    .. Wilson...... Mata...... Di Maria..
    ................... Rooney............

To be fair to LVG ,he is still grinding out results ,with the form you are in you should be out of the CL places , the amount of late points won and against the run of play is usually indicative of a good manager and good team spirit.

I dont think Wilson has the touch or dribbling skill to play on the wing.
One thing that affected Welbecks minutes up front and being shunted out to the wing(apart from the competetion!) was his ability on the ball as well as his pace.

It just goes to show what a mistake it was to send Nani out on loan.

Might as well just play adnan there if you want to do that.

I just think the road the glory is littered with the careers of young players (especially young British players) who had one good season and then faded back into relative mediocrity. Could be that all his stars aligned this season.

If he's still in the same form 12 months down the line I'll be wiping egg off my face, but I've just seen it happen too many times.

Whatever we all think of Harry Kane I just hope he stays at Spurs. Hate the automatic links with the top clubs. Maybe in 4 years if Spurs are still stuck outside the Champions League then maybe but for now he should stay where he is. Has a good chance of making himself a legend at Spurs.

I really like Kane. I think he's got a fantastic attitude and seems like a very down to earth lad. He has grabbed his chance with both hands and has had an amazing year so far. I hope he doesn't get built up too much by the British media though which has a tendency to happen when a young lad bursts onto the scene in England. It's already getting out of hand with people like Danny Murphy claiming England should build their national team around him!!

    http://www.bbc.com/sport/0/football/31204958

If he continues his progress and maintains his impressive goal scoring through to this time next season then fair enough, but at the moment I think we are just watching an exciting young player on the crest of an amazing wave.

I hope Spurs don't sell him this Summer. A big move too early could damage his prospects.

aaaaaaaaand back to Utd chat -

So.... what are we all thinking about Wayne Rooney in midfield?

    :(
