So........my rough idle problem. I unplugged my MAF on the off chance this was causing it, ran perfect from dead cold albeit with revs a little higher at around 900. Would this indicate it's faulty or dirty? There was no code for the MAF when the car was scanned with INPA a few weeks ago.

They'll start and run fine with the MAF disconnected, Norm. The computer will derive an airflow from throttle position, RPM and ambient temperature. I suppose there's no intake leaks?

I would have said if it made no difference it would be the problem?
Maybe try cleaning it and see where that gets you :)

Have you looked for a vacuum leak yet? Definitely do that before condemning the MAF

EDIT: I think I've read before that the test for a bad MAF is to tap it when the car is running, AFAIR tapping it should have no effect if the sensor is working correctly and the car will stall if it is bad. Sounds vey crude to me but seems to work according to the internet. You might want to do a google to confirm before taking my word for it though! It's been a while since I read that.

Would the fact it's starting and running fine disconnected indicate it's faulty so as when it was connected it was rough? I'll do it again in the morning and see if it's rough.

With regards vacuum leaks, there's a whistle on acceleration, no matter the gear and there's a bit of tape covering the intake boot from the MAF to the lower intake pipe along with it being old and hard, this part is already on the way.

I second this, when i was handing over mr avensis's 9-5 it ran like a bag of sh1t, so we had a look around to see what it was, turned out to be a disconnected vac line, ran perfect then, so have a looksee!

Now we're getting somewhere. Replace all that Ann Summers rubberware, and fcuk a new MAF in there as well - they're chape, bah!

Not as cheap as I'd like :pac: Otto have a VDO MAF for 260 or a HELLA for 290 :P

Will see where the intake boot gets me, if it doesn't sort it, onto the MAF! It's not a pressing issue anyway really so it's not too bad.

Quite right. Get that intake tickety-boo, and only then consider the possibility of a duff sensor. That stuff gets very quare.

I was looking at a few gttdi's a while back. Great poke to them with the 130bhp. The mk4 golf is a good trooper in general. You thinking of buying one? Not sure of your age, if insurance factors will come into it.

Thanks for the info, no just a friend of mine was looking for one. I was really just wondering if there were any issues to be aware of. You didn't buy one in the end, no?

No, was between them and a focus. Could buy an 04 focus for the price some of them were looking for an 02 golf. To me anyway, they've gotten the young lad rep, and I didn't really want that.

    I've had 3.
Most recent is an '02 GT TDI.
Common issues are the front suspension wearing out at 100k+ miles, rear wiper linkage is terribly prone to failing. Make sure there is service history of the belt and water pump done every 60k miles (or 5 years) and if that's not available, it costs 350-500 to get that done at a good indy. Look also for water ingress, I've not had it happen but I hear from veedub fans it's a common issue and can fcuk up the ECU.

Most mk4 golfs are very low spec. If you're getting one wait until a higher spec comes up. As a UK Gt TDi, my current one has A/C, comfortline spec seats Cruise Control, center armrest etc (even detailed full service history). Makes all the difference over a boggo spec one and they are similar money.

Was just returning to my car in the parkway in Limerick, and this old biddy driving a fabia estate pulls in to a space, you know the ones that can't drive. She hits the rear quarter of the car in the space beside it, and keeps driving!! She left a nasty dent on the rear quarter panel and the door and scrope the side of the car.

I went up to her window and told her, she got out and i told her again. She just threw her hands up, while this was happening the owner of the other car came back and asked what car she hit, I told her yours. They had a bit of a chat and the old wan went on her way. The owner of the other car was eastern European so I'm not sure if she wanted to make a fuss or didn't care because i asked her if she got the other ladies insurance, she said no, she rubbed it off. I said fair enough and off she went. The car did have a fair few dings in it anyway but if it was my car I'd be f**king fuming.

This is the reason I park at the back of car parks to get away from these idiots.

It's stuck! It will only come half way up. G Dalton is looking for a replacement right now, hopefully our Alfa parts guy has one.

But I drove down the road, parked in childers road retail centre. Parked in a spot, with loads of free space around me, come back and there's a car parked right next to me

Could try what I did for my alfa when the window was stuck open.
Direct current to the motor. It's an alfa, so odds are it's an electrical issue.

Same happens to me, I think some people can't park without another car as a reference. It's the only explanation I can come up with.

That's what i was thinking. Mainly because i saw one car badly parked as in two spaces front and rear and the car beside it was parked the same

So on Friday I made an attempt at changing the discs on the car. Only got one done thanks to time constraints and the other corners basically being assholes and needing heat to expand the screws. I didn't have anything to heat them up apart from a box of matches or a hot water bottle :pac:

I'm not sure if it's been posted, but I found this. A chinese rip off of a range rover evoque.

    The landwind x7.

I can't imagine driving it though, I'd be terrified it would spilt down teh middle.

    The real on:

Anyone who needs the number PM me.
€75+vat for the regulator and it'll be here tomorrow! not bad I suppose.
