Abortion is the ultimate exercise is selfishness - "My happiness is more important than another human being's life".

This made me lol. Western society is build on the back of slaves in low paid countries making your shoes and i pods.

Your western happiness is build on misery of millions

I'd never abuse the woman for choosing to do what she did. I struggle with the notion of abortion and I don't think it would ever be an easy decision. I also think the suggestion that some might want her arrested is a ridiculous one, what would that achieve?

I do however totally disagree with abortion on demand. Unlike what we know as the "difficult" cases, I see this abortion as purely an act of convenience. I'll never understand how a person could do that purely for the reasons she gave. I'm proud of the fact we do not have abortion on demand and I hope it stays like that. I do think there can be cases where abortion may be considered but her case would most definitely not be one imo.

    We don't export any "problem".

    That's exactly what we do.
The country voted in favour of the right to travel for an abortion. So basically this country said its OK to have an abortion, just don't do it here.

What is the obsession with other people's private lives that seems to grip you people ?

It stops being private when people kill babies - surely that make sense.
If I killed my toddler it would go beyond "ah sure that's my own business".
Its the same thing for me.

You can call it what you like and use any amount of cold and distancing terminology to describe it and make it seem like it wasn't a human, but the hard fact is that a when a woman gets pregnant, a baby grows inside her.

Avoiding the usage of the word "baby" doesn't suddenly make it ok.

    Exactly, INSIDE her.

A person shouldnt be forced to support another especially when it can lead to health complications for them.

I hope you tell your friend that there are tens of thousands of people in Ireland that do not judge her, tens of thousands of women who have done exactly the same but don't have her bravery to speak publicly.
Don't let her read the abuse.

I feel sorry for her but I feel more sorry for the poor little mite who was never given a chance, to me an abortion without medical reasons is awful

We do have abortion on demand , maybe just for the middle classes and the rich , but then they are the only ones that count.

And as a free added bonus we get to say Ireland is abortion free !

It is over 30 years since the first abortion referendum and at a conservative estimate 4000 women have travelled abroad for one . That means there are a minimum of 120,000 women walking around this abortion free country .

    Give me a break.

Yeah in the same way that the save the children from the terror of same sex marriage is valid .

I agree that in certain circumstances abortion may be the humane thing to do, but its the "abortions of convenience" that I have a big problem with.

I grew up on a farm and often had to kill say deformed baby lambs who had no chance of survival etc so I get the concept. But aborting a perfectly healthy baby growing inside a physically perfect mother is wrong to me, especially in a human!

So you think that thousands of Irish women every year should give birth to babies they cannot, emotionally, mentally or financially support?
Do you think the government should support them?
Maybe you think we should introduce the mother & baby homes that were so popular in the past?
Sure we could make a few bob, traumatising women & selling their babies

She probably will get abuse for it but would any of the people willing to insult her be there at 3am when the baby would be screaming and crying. Would they be there if she was short money for food shopping/clothes shopping. Would they be there to provide emotional support. Of course they wouldn't. People are always quick to criticize.

Some of them would be very happy to adopt her baby and raise it so that she did not have to kill it.

    Simple equation for you...

baby = toddler a couple years later

of course some people will feel that way, and I can see where you're coming from of course I can. But I don't see it as my / our choice to make, unless it's at the point where it's our own body that has a foetus growing inside it.

If you don't like abortion, don't have one!
....but don't you dare judge someone that has, as you know nothing about what they really went through.

Brave woman in the op and I wish her a long and happy life.

    Simple equation for you...

baby = toddler a couple years later

By that logic all contraception and morning after pills should be illegal as they can prevent a fertilized egg implanting.

Bit of english for you.... What she did is present tense. 'A couple years later' is future tense.

    A potential future scenario.

If that is your best arguement, then you don't have much of one to be honest.

    Just what I was thinking.

I have a contraceptive implant in my arm, could apply the same logic.

You are missing the point. Women who want abortions usually don't want to be pregnant in the first place. Adoption doesn't solve that.

Maybe but like another poster said in this situation the woman has an unwanted pregnancy. You cannot make women who don't want to be pregnant carry a baby to term and give birth. If the case were that she has an unwanted baby then of course adoption is available.

Short answer is yes to your first two questions - provide proper services to support mothers who are struggling.

Yep. I guess I should hang my head in shame.

Oh hang on, I've not had sex since I had my implant fitted last year, so no babies killed yet.
