Just wondering what builds you would recommend? I set up my box in a rush using an AidyMatic AeonNox build because I wanted to watch a match but don't really like it. Are you better off using TVMC or just staring from scratch?

I haven't tried this yet, so I have no idea if it's any good, but OkayFreedom are giving away 1 year premium accounts for their VPN.
Handy if you want to watch services restricted to some Countries. Or to get services when you're abroad.

If I was signing up for it, I'd guess it may be better to use yopmail/guerillamail/mailinator etc..

All I've tried since taking it outnof the box has beenvto try power it on via mains. How would I put it in recovery if it won't power on?

    Hi Slunk,

I've the same problem - mxiii 2gb box arrived from Gearbest (via customs) yesterday - powered up and worked no problem last night, but this morning it is dead as a dodo. Unplugged it overnight, but when I tried to power it up this morning, no lights, nothing.

Is this a bad batch or is it problem with the plug adapter that comes with it? What other power adapters could I try I wonder??? Will try again at lunch to be certain.

How have you got on with a replacement?

    Cheers

Nice....might be the job if I move off Horizon....

Are iBood based out of China? e.g. will I have to pay customs?

What's the deal with having 1 of these and having an horizon box? Would there be a problem like?

    Hi Molser
I had the same problem earlier this month also with a 2gb Mxiii from gearbest. I reckon it was the adaptor that fried my box. The plug got fairly hot and the corner of the box where the power connection goes in got pretty warm also. Disconnected everything and reconnected, tried matchstick in av port, tried holding power on button before , during & after connecting for various times but still nothing. The plug was still getting hot but by now the box wasn't. Tried a brand new adaptor but not a thing from the box.
Opened a ticket with gearbest and was eventually offered a choice of
    (i) €15 towards a repair,
(ii) Replacement box if I post the faulty one back but I pay postage
(iii) Replacement box for €40 without posting back the faulty one
(iv) Full refund if I post the faulty one back but I pay postage

It costs €16.55 to send back the box registered post (the only way you can get proof of postage 'cos they don't want you to use courier post)

In fairness to Gearbest their customer support team replied to me once per day by email and it seemed to be the same person I was dealing with, unless Jennifer is a popular name in China.

I posted mine off yesterday originally looking for a full refund 'cos I don't want to get hit with customs again on a replacement box, but I am half tempted to get a replacement Mxiii and just use a different plug.

Before anyone says I don't have to pay customs again, I can't find the original receipt to prove that I paid already. Apparently if an item is repaired you don't pay customs, but if it is replaced by a new item you do pay.

The MXQ which I posted earlier about, was waiting for mate to drop it back in but he rang me at weekend to say he found a spare power supply off something else and plugged it in....it is back working no issues. So seems like the power supplies shipped with them might be a bit dodgy....

Interesting, I would actually recommend to anyone to just buy these from Amazon for this very reason, very little difference in the price once VAT/An Post handling charge added in vs the hassle of returning if something goes wrong.

In any event I got it working again (It seems I had the 2 pin china plug in the adaptor the wrong way around, I didn't know this was even possible??) so all is well for now thankfully, but was pi$$ed off all morning!

If you pick the default MXQ and MXIII - but both are available from Gearbest with a 'UK plug' power supply option. How many are experiencing failures on these compared to the EU or US options? (Not that there should be any difference with an appropriate plug adapter.)

Are these things solely dependent on HDMI? Ancient scart only TV here.

The MXIII comes with AV jack and composite video (Red/Yellow/White RCA) cable ... huge irony if you need to "downgrade" with a scart to composite adapter!

Just a thought with people with power supply issues on the box. It should not matter but if you got a box with a 2 pin plug have you tried swapping the plugs polarity around? I came across something like that a few years ago on a USB charger for a tablet with a 2 pin plug. As I said I would be surprised if it made a difference

Did a bit of googling, for nearly the same money I'd get a better box,the remote is minimalist and there's no blutooth so that's a problem straight away.

Are there any android launchers or roms designed to kind of act and look like a smart tv, if that makes sense?

Leanback Launcher used to be called TV Launcher. I find that they slow down devices quicker, but that may be just me.

There seems to be very little going on for the MXQ box I just got delivered.

Found a Mediaman ROM based on 108k4 and Stock 109k but that's it. Wouldn't be rushing to get another couple to sell on if these ROMS don't improve the box.

The OpenELEC version seems to have died a death,.....after that it is looking very slow for firmware

    Its a pity really.

Not a fan of the on/off button either, will get it running as best as firmware allows then build n sell.

    For which one? The 1GB/8GB?

The MK808B Plus Openelec should work for it - https://github.com/kszaq/OpenELEC.tv/releases

That is the box, would be excellent if that Open Elec worked, will try it tomorrow to see maybe.
