Ever since the Pathfinder caught my eye, I've been looking up similar type Jeeps/SUVs I'd like to consider in future.

I always looked at (proper) jeeps as being bullet proof. Designed for dragging trailers across muddy fields and delivering goats to mountains. But everything I like the look of (and do a search for) seems to have fairly negative reviews.

The Pathfinder, apparently, has this small issue, where every once in a while, the engine implodes!? What!?  And the car is a write-off.

The Mitsubishi Pajero 2.5 litre is apparently a waste of time and the 3.2 litre is a lot better, but both are prone to giving issues (nobody quite detailed what these issues are, though).

The Pajero Sport is a 'raging alcoholic' that will, according to a boardsie on a thread I found, "eat you out of house and home" (that line still makes me laugh :D ).

I can't remember the specifics, but I know the Outlander didn't get a great reception either on the threads I found online.

The issues affecting the Pathfinder are apparently also prevalent on the Patrol and Navara, as, from what I gather, they're all pretty much the same jeep with a different body shape.

The Suzuki Grand Vitara seems to be hit and miss, but doesn't seem to get too much hatred (from what I've seen).

Is the LandCruiser the only reliable jeep on the roads? This seems madness!? (as an aside, any Jeep/SUV I buy would never a work a day of it's ownership with me. I just like the look of them). I do realise that people are more likely to complain than compliment online, and that's fair enough, but surely an imploding engine is a fairly serious issue!?

Funny you mention it now as I was looking in to all SUVs and had pretty much all the same feedback.

I still would love an X5 or Landy Discovery ( newer shape ), but looks like I will have to skip on those two for now. I got second love for my scooby and "itch for change" is gone. Thanks ****....

God Shadow, I could never get people who liked the X5, I personally think they are a horrible thing!

Like them myself and they're pretty good to drive, not all roley poley. I'd say the woman will be in one by the end of the year.

I actually was same opinion before, but now I love them. I might be getting old and boring so. :pac: I know one annoying thing about them - feck all space in a back.

KKV, you should get a Rav4.

    :pac:

I don't know, I'd probably never own a jeep. But I don't mind the range rover etc.
Just the X5 looks boxy or something, there's something off (to me) about it :)

3.2 pajero is fine, wouldnt worry about reliability. The landcruiser and hilux are fine but always overpriced 2nd hand, the d-max 3.0 is reliable and simple enough to repair, id leave manual pathfinders/navaras alone, too many dmf issues, patrol 3.0 is good though. The kia sorento is a bulletproof yoke and fierce cheap for what it is, pre 2010 models have low range and are a great 4x4 on and off road.

Drive to Galway tomorrow morning at 7am. Then home after dark

Going to be a bit of a pucker-run, that's for sure.

145 for build and fit, I've used them before and would recommend them, on my gtv they charged about the same for a midbox whereas Alfa quoted 650 for the part alone!

Not so bad! You wonder why they charge so much, mine needs a wishbone for the nct, main dealer wanted 500 quid for it, motor factors wanted 300, got it online for 160 to the front door

Has anyone got any idea what that reddish plug is?

    Coolant is escaping from there.

1998 V40 1.9TD is the car in question.

Bleeder valve for the coolant. Try nipping it closed with a pliers when its cold. Probably need replaced.

Was at a set of lights at a junction. Not overly busy but a few cars going each way. Only one side of the junction can go at a time (traffic lights on all sides).

I get green and I take off at a sluggish pace as there's nothing behind me, and I'm just heading home for the evening. Suddenly 3 boy racers appear. Three hatchbacks. Can't remember what two of them were, but one of them was a Focus. I remember it cos I nearly side-swiped the fcuking idiot!

Very rare I'd be annoyed on the road (usually finding things a bit funny or interesting) but I was actually genuinely furious at this absolute fcuking moron. Only for I was dressed in a fairly 'lazy' attire I would have followed them and gave him a well deserved slap (I know where they went and seen the three retards parked up afterwards).

What's the usual protocol here? Call to the Gardai would be a bit pointless I'd imagine (if they haven't caught them at it themselves, I presume all they can do is have a chat, which would only help the morons think they're class as I'd imagine they'd just jeer the Gardai, as they know they can't be done for anything?).

Hee hee.... I turned 52 litres of glorious golden liquid into global warming today, over the course of 420 kilometres. Car now looks like it has done ten times that with all the road ****e on it.

Not too bad on the fuel, considering the mix of traffic, and the speed.

    22.8 mpg.

This low cost fuel is great. I had inbetween 1/4 and 1/2 a tank of fuel and threw 30 quid into it I was thinking that would bring it to around 3/4 of a tank but when I started it needle shot up to full. Obviously it wasn't conpletly full but was very near.

I past a topaz on the way through naas earlier, and was horrified to see petrol still at 1.32 a litre.

The average I've found on my commute has been 1.24. Looking at pumps the cheapest brand is 1.20 in tullamore.

    Just heard this:
Sunday 25th Jan Top Gear returns

I tend to peg it when I fill it to keep track of what it's eating. It's a good sign of engine health, for a start.

I have seen it do 25mpg, but that's at slightly slower average speed, with less traffic.

I think it's running a bit rich too.

I normally check mpg by the brim method at least once a month it's the best way to keep track of it alright as you said If it starts to drop mpg dramatically for no reason then you know that there is something up with the car.

Every fill my car gets brimmed, litres put in and mileage on the trip wrote down. That way I work my mpg per fill

I hate rootin with dribs and drabs when filling my car with fuel

Different era, I recognize a few. A lot of people that don't post anymore or very little. Seemed to decline after that! :(

No, I'm not in that vid. I'm here though, the lad in the blue jeans ;)
