Cleveland, you could have had my 92 Renault 5 for a song if you got onto me a few weeks ago.

I'm in a bit of a fuddle, Have the 97 Civic Saloon, new timing belt, kit and water pump in her, NCT'd until feb 2015, coming up to 220,000 Miles.

But, Have been offered a BMW 2L 318, from 1998, with 25,000 genuine miles on her for free, (uncle's) 1 owner (himself)

Higher tax, higher insurance, probably small difference in petrol costs, don't know what to do.

It would have sentimental reasons for my cousin who is passing it on to me. Plus, it be like a brand new beemer, my feeling is to sell on the civic, but who would buy a civic with that mileage on it.

People will buy anything if it's priced right :)

You'd be surprised. List it and see?
I bought a car with 420k miles on it, there are idiots like me out there :P

Those Civics are popular irrespective of mileage, priced right and you will be beating potential buyers off with a stick.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,874 ✭✭✭padma

there is definitely another 50000 miles til the next timing belt and nothing would need fixing, unless of course your bouncing over ramps 10 times a day etc..

    Prius:
    - replace the Chinese ditchfinders with whatever is the most fuel efficient tyre on the market
    - plug-in conversion (in all honesty I probably won't be doing this as it will cost in the region of 4k)
    - speaker upgrade
    - proper dash-cam, wired in properly
    - continue to give condescending and patronising looks to anyone doing less than 50mpg or anyone in diesel cancer-mobiles

    Other:
    - buy a large ****-off 4x4 or pick-up
    - start smoking fat cigars

Put the 4k towards savings and another k or two and buy a nice big American truck ala Cleveland.

On the E66, finish the paint correction and seal her up.

Wheel refurb at some stage, new tyres no doubt by the end of the year (gonna be fun on 275 20s).

Get my E38 prepared and up for sale in the next fortnight.

    Cry a little.

What are you doing with the other e38 or did you break it already?

The black parts E38 has already been sold for what I paid for it, the engine is going into an E30. :)

VRS Octavia, am thinking might be a plan to get it cleared in next few months :)

    Get windows tinted.

    Full service

I had already replied to this thread before the site maintenance issues but it appears to have vanished somehow?

My only car atm 1998 Civic SiR getting her ready for NCT in Feb:
2 decent front tires to replace the Nangkang sports on her since I bought it.:o
Some engine mounts a CV joint/Bearing and maybe some bushings in back.
Brake pads looking at some fast road VVTR or sililiar
    Pay my car tax:rolleyes:
give it its annual wash and wax whenever it stops raining ;)

Then for the fun parts like a B20 bottom end :Dif one comes up at the right price and slowly building it up with all the right new conversion parts + CTR head & cams etc.:D

Get the Driver and passenger door sills repaired on my Micra and get new alloys for it. For a first car its cost me way more money than I expected.

Badly corroded on both sides. Was told up in the Nct that they can't be filled in. New metal needs to be welded in.

Depends on how much is corroded and how much the welder needs to be honest, if you can get the parts I know someone who miiiiiiight do it, I'll have a chatter with them when I'm in college

Going North next weekend to buy a 2010 1.6 TDI golf.

My car needs a good service, timing belt changed and a new exhaust. The Turbo has started to go again when I drive it on a bit, think there's a pipe loose somewhere. Diesel golf.

Possibly to sell the A4 estate, and to sell the MR2, and combine both types of car and get an 04/05 E55 estate..

It'll not be a lot extra with one car compared to what I am already paying for two, plus I do fairly small mileage at the moment, so it's affordable.

Have been in love with the Audi TT for some time now.

All research done, moving home from New Zealand in a month and plan to buy then. Can only afford MKI so will aim for a good quality 225bhp model.

    Then overhaul the audio...

    Sit back and enjoy

Is this my split personality posting on boards?!

Moving home from New Zealand in June and have been looking at TT's and are quite likening them!

So my plans are get the Subaru tested and sold then buy something tasty when I get home.

    Hmm lets see:

    Current Volvo:

    - Get timing belt and WP done
    - Get new brake discs and pads
    - Feck it of a cliff
    - Remove it from the sea to find out it still works
    - Sell it with happiness

    Replacement car

    - Wait as long as possible to get free VRT into Ireland
    - Buy a possible Saab 9-3 to tie me over for a while
    - Sell kidney
    - Realise I need to sell more organs
    - Possible divorce on the cards at this stage
    - Live in the replacement car until my death

Side Skirts should be on mine in the next few weeks. Just need to find the time to get it to my preferred paint shop.

Kerbed a wheel (not happy) so rather than having it painted and not matching properly/lasting as well there's a new one going on at the same time as the paints being done. Another option is to change them for a different wheel altogether but the only type I am interested in is extremely hard to come by.

OPC steering wheel. Have found a couple on eBay, if I confirm that the airbag is a straight swap that'll save me €200 on one.

LED number plate lights - ordered already but they are specially made to order from Germany so will be another month or so.

Retro-fit tyre pressure monitors. Missed a trick not ordering them as they were a cheap option and with big expensive tyres I'd like to know if one was losing air instead of unwittingly destroying it.

For the CRX, I think I've found a source for replica centre caps for my wheels. If this pans out I'll probably get the wheels refurbed and possibly painted/powdercoated, currently thinking either gunmetal or black with a polished rim. Also hope to remove the tints as they're starting to look pretty crappy and get them redone. Ideally I'd like to replace the rear hatch as there's a crack in the window, but this might not be possible due to cost and scarcity. It's just passed the NCT (after replacing two tyres) so hopefully it will be fine for the time being. Cleaning and polishing more often than almost never would be good but probably won't happen!

For the Beemer, tyres also need to be got soon and the number plate lights and electronic boot latch need to be sorted. I'll continue to pay ridiculous road tax in 2014 :-( Again, more frequent cleaning would be good too.

    My plans.....

'05 Almera. Service next week and again in August. I service it every 15k km or 6 months, which ever is first. The yoke is boringly reliable and the only non service item replaced in '13 was a brake caliper. Other plans include to take it to 270k to 280k km without major jobs. I'll probably hit this by years end.

'77 Escort. Rebolster front seats as its sagging slightly. Replace centre console as there is a tiny hole (1 to 2 mm) with a NOS item. Service in March and September, with a full fluid change, new coil, rotor arm, dizzy cap and exhaust gas analysis. Ideally replace the windscreen with a NOS green tint one (ultra hens teeth item!) and NOS exhaust or exact copy in stainless steel.

'97 Endurance Rally and Multi venue autotest Starlet. KILL IT IN COMPETITION!!!! Yes I plan to use it until it dies in a blaze of glory, or more likely a broken gearbox or blown engine.

I will change from my econobarge (05 Sonata) to a Luxobarge!
Will get a 05-07 era Lexus GS300. Shuld pick one up a decent one for about 5-6k by then.

A6 - New soundsystem just installed. Pioneer x7500bt head, DLS Up6 components all round, JL Audio 900/5 amp and JL 12W3v3 sub. All installed in the last week, now about a month of messing to tune it properly.

Car needs alternator pulley, drivers side outer cv joint and air con needs attention. Hopefully nothing else goes wrong in 2014

Hopefully buying my own first car in a couple of weeks. 08 Volvo S40 1.8 is the prime candidate. R-Design is a nice but possibly a little dear, I'd settle for a sport bodykit as it really changes the look of the car.

    Balls.... Where to start :p

520i to be sold (what an epic diffmobile )

406 is grand :) might experiment with a pair of turbos though but I'm happy with it as is

535i to get its much needed rad and tyres for some serious work/fun :D

525i to get roadworthy fir next year :)

166 needs sold but will be restored before that

156 is a simple plan with a nutty execution :D

Van has a similar fate :pac:

Ka to get it running and make into a stock car

Might start poking at the Landy and 106 if I have the time

Oh and get a new daily hack.... Hope that gets the go ahead ;)

Oh dear, how things didn't turn out!

    520i: sold

    406: sold

    535i: still needs a rad

525i: filled it with crap and haven't done a tap with it :(

    166: sold

156: still in the process of making it into what I wanted!

Van: pushed into the garden and forgotten about :(

    Ka: scrapped

    106: scrapped

    Landy: still in the bamboo

New daily hack did work out well though!

Roll on the new thread and a list of tasks I won't complete :D

    February/March 2014:

    - Buy prefferably an E46 325ci.
    - M-Sport Bodykit if it's not there
    - Black, electric leather seats
    - Yellow rings (don't like LED ones)
    - Xenons
    - Black kidneys
    - Rear Facelift Lights (LED)
    - Some nice exhaust

    Well, that worked out almost!

    And I got a 750i so happy enough :D

What a load of bollocks that post was anyway. It was gone two months later.

I've priced up a few options along the same theme and I'm pondering them. Basically all are a diesel warm hatch. Nothing exciting at all there really. Potential new house is shadowing my decision making.

The other option is hold off a couple of years and get an A7. Have a horn for one the last couple of years. Either that or a 4 series GC - drove one lately and was mightily impressed overall.

*The above will most likely be bollocks so I'm covering my ass.
