Major Crash In Kerry

    More than a dozen people are believed to have been injured after a major road crash between a minibus and an SUV at Farranfore in Co Kerry.

    A number of children are believed to have been involved in the incident.

    The extent of the injuries isn't known at this stage.

    It sounds to be quite a major incident. Several helicopters have been deployed.

    The reports seem to be a bit all over the place and have changed several times since the story broke. One did say earlier that four helicoptors had been deployed. Thankfully it seems non life threatening injuries.

    I was just playing soccer up near Cork University Hospital and in the adjacent GAA fields (where the choppers land) there was a fleet of ambulances collecting people from helicopters. I'm presuming it is related to this crash. If they were bringing people to CUH then that would suggest their injures are substantial.
    It's understood that at least three of the injured, including children, have been taken by helicopter to Cork University Hospital.

    The coastguard helicopter just flew in again. That's at least four landings.

    So after all the tougher measures to raise more taxes and nothing to do with actual road safety brought in by Noel Brett and the RSA over the last few years we now will have a higher death toll on our roads this year

    i presume there will be resignations in January

    Imagine how bad it would have been had those measures not been implemented?

    Noel Brett is long gone from RSA, BTW.

    I know for a fact that because of cutbacks we are seeing more deaths on the roads due to lack of policing. Ask any Gardaí off the record and you'll know what I mean. Not to worry once the bank debts get paid off what.

    Ask any Gardai off the record? Are you smoking something?

    Tell us when the Gardai were properly resourced(e.g. During the Celtic Tiger era) how they stopped road deaths?

    3 ambulances all under garda escort passed me outside cork university hospital at 8.40 this evening all with people from the crash

    The pictures on the indo site are horrific. Apparently it was a family of 9 travelling in the minibus

    I blame the lack of upgrading roads, specifically Duallers since.

    The N4 at Sligo, N20 for the most part. Heck even the road network around Kerry airport where this happened should be in better nick. Head on collisions are almost impossible to occur if you spend the money wisely on DCs. All the extra Gardai and 30KMPH speed limits wouldnt be 1% as effective.

    It was a head on collision,which vehicle was on the wrong side of the road to cause the crash??? It's not all about the condition of the roads either, driver stupidity is a factor in a good few accidents, my thoughts are with all the injured

    So are mine. However, prevention is better than cure. You can help the next bunch that your thoughts will be with by investing now. Its no coincidence that during 2007-2009 (as other poster points out) that injuries went down from 7500 odd to 700 odd during an unprecedented time of upgraded roads. The facts speak for themselves.

    If you are talking about traffic volume then they're not needed. If it's road safety then every road should be dual carriage way.

    Within a radius of the airport (assuming the airport is taken seriously). For sake of argument, i would say N21->N22 and N23.

    I know, its a waste of money saving a few lives sure

    they only measure serious injuries since then that explains the unprecendeted fall.
