Opened at 6673.00 ,about 3 pips higher that close Friday evening, which surprised me ,the U.K have have officially joined the coalition with fighter jets out of Cyprus targeting ISIS/L targets in Iraq (this was voted on Friday morning ,so was already factored in Friday prior to close).
Are you still involved in this trade dealhunter ?

    Hi Arrow,
Sorry I did see your response on Friday, thanks for your input.
Yeah thats what I thought..That it was already factored in that the UK would be joining the action..
    I'm still holding steady :)

any chance of a rebound at all?
I'm in way over my head at 6686
Id rather lose it all than take the loss I'm currently holding..

The FTSE has had the sh1t hammered out of it in the last week, are you still holding ?

Yeah I am. Got a massive CFD position open and I'd say im very close to getting stopped out. Not a lot of margin left...
If it continues to tank, shows over for me.
Not feeling too confident about what Draghi is going to announce tomorrow either.

Nice thread. Should have more threads like these.
Anyway, the prevailing wisdom is that QE in Europe should help equity markets in the EU, however, I wonder if how much of this is priced in?

Nice open this morning (thank god)
    Hopefully it holds.

Sometimes I really have to wonder though whats driving the market though.
The DE Manufacturing Orders this morning was absolutely brutal -5.7% vs -2.4% forecasted. Yet the market shrugged it off...
Another day you would see the market go absolute crazy on such a release..
    Whats that about!?!

@dealhunter; If you stopped and read your post, you might see that you're wondering why the market isn't reacting negatively to bad news yet still hoping your long position comes back.

You should also read some of your comments about not taking a loser. It's the anti-thesis to trading. I actually thought you were taking the micky out of Arrow (and I would have banned you).

I highlighted multiple reasons for the sell off potential and then the commodities sold off more and other retail companies released negative news. It was one way traffic. FTSE is undergoing a small bounce due to being oversold relative to others. The Glencore/RIO Tinto news has helped.

The Dax was up this morning despite the bad news because it was closed on Friday due to a German holiday. On Friday, the S&P and Eurostoxx rallied. It was playing catch up initially. It has since trended down since about 8:10 this morning.

The equity markets are really struggling at the moment.

haha was waiting for Ixus to come along with the cane.
I closed out some of my position for a loss.
Left the rest open and hoping it will bounce back.

Jeez arent you lucky you didnt ban me on a silly assumption like that :)

Of course I'm wanting my long position to come back.
But my question can still be relevant at the same time...

    That's me done anyways.
My position was closed out at 6404 due to lack of funding.
Surely this has got to be it? The correction that has been talked about for so long..
    time will tell

    Hi folks,

Been following this thread with interest and thought I'd throw in my oar. I'm a techy trader (or fundamentally technical as I prefer to say). Here's my current setup (my own trading method)

    I was short in @6405

T1 @ 6310 - if it hits I'm halving my position and putting a trailing stop on
    T2 @ 6210 - close all
    SL @ 6514

based on what I typically see at T1 level I would expect a retrace here (could be a sideways move) before heading down.

As with all trading I work on the probability of my target being hit. Pints on me if I'm on the money.

    ATB

Nicely done. Its moving in the right direction. Wish I had your vision!
I see its down roughly 8% now since the high a couple of weeks ago.
I wonder will all this talk of a correction drag it down another couple of percent

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7 don_01

    Thanks DH1985

Its not visions I get unfortunately but I do have a technical method that guides my decisions. Its not guaranteed either as probability will put me in losing trades along the way!! I just have to trust that I have more winners than losers over the long term (which I do!!).

We'll see if it makes my T2 target (or hits my trailing stop) next.

That's over 12 months of equity rallies in the FTSE, Dax, CAC and ESX taken out in a few weeks.

You can added the ASX to that as well.

I suppose being an Australian now I have to give my 2 cents on the ASX.
I usually keep this open and browse it during the day.
    http://www.theage.com.au/business/markets-live/markets-live-fears-sink-shares-20141016-3i3ye.html

Its a great synopsis on the days Market on-goings for the Australian Market and gives you brief concise summaries on whats going on in macro terms, especially China and US which are very important for Australia.

Would love if there was anything similar for US or Europe.

Anyway, the ASX is about 9% down from the latest peak (but still way off its peak of 2007). If it index hits 5,005 its an official correction. Many are now predicting that it will smash that and end up somewhere in the mid 4,000. Lots of bargain hunters out there but the sudden change in sentiment has caught many off guard with lots of money being repatriated into safe havens.

Was stopped out @ 6687.00 less than a month ago (thank fcuk) ,its hard to believe that the FTSE has fallen 600 odd points (10%) since then ,still well up on this trade even though in hind sight it looks to be a complete clusterfcuk of a trade .I'm happy:D,just wondering how much bouncing around the big round number of 6000.00 their will be .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 523 ✭✭✭dealhunter1985

Scary how quick it can turn.. It can post a new record high and then fall over 10% in the space of a few weeks.

That is some reversal. Not one pause for breath. Central bankers intervened with words then BoJ goes all in. Because, if what you're doing doesn't work, do more. ..

So the FTSE looses 1 years worth of gains in 3 weeks and pulls a half a years worth of gains back in a fortnight ,its acting like an exploration stock ,I'm not used to and d'ont like this kind of action :(.

I think this has been damaging to both bulls and bears. The macroman blog is a good follow, comments too. If you don't recognise a term like edz, just Google "trade edz".

Was definitely worth a long this morning off the open. Mind me asking how you got that price last night? Futures market has changed its opening hours to 8am after switch to ICE. can no longer trade futures from 1am.

Worth noting the ftse led all the major indices lower, similar to the last sell off on back of commodities.
