Your Xmas dinner!

    For Christmas dinner, I will be having;
    - Vegetable soup or goats cheese tart
    - Fillet steak (medium rare)
    - Ham
    - Roast potatoes
    - Mash
    - Carrots
    - Peas
    - Stuffing

    Everyone else at the table will be having turkey instead of the steak, but I really don't like turkey. There will also be sprouts and probably some other veg

    Everyone else will be having prawn cocktails for starters, but I don't like cold prawns or mayo, so I'm going for the soup instead. I might try to get some goats cheese tart for starters this year instead

    This will be followed by'
    - Sherry trifle
    - Christmas pudding
    - Cheese
    - Cheesecake
    - Baileys
    - More Baileys
    - Beer
    - NAP
    - JD

    I don't drink wine, but everyone else will be having wine with their meal

    Last year was the first time that I didn't have Christmas dinner at home as the house went on fire and we had to move out for Nov - Jan. We went to my sisters instead and that was nice, but a bit squashed

    Turkey ham mashed potatoes roasties carrits sprouts peas gravy stuffing.
    Same every year. Thats the way we love it.

    Pudding mince pies cream custard.
    Roses. Love them:)

    Sandwiches lashings of brown sauce. Christms cake (made in oct bathed in brandy)

    Oh and more roses;)

    I think it's not really traditional in vast swathes of the country hence not very common. Certainly wasn't a thing where I'm from in the west. Very nice though. But no gravy, so what sauce to people generally serve with it?

    Spiced beef is a Cork thing I think.

    Then all of it again in a sandwich a couple of hours later :)

    Dessert is usually Pavlova

    Snacks for the day include Quality Street, Roses, Celebrations. Mince pies with hot custard. Biscuits from the Jacob's tin. Pringles. It's all about the food :) Can't wait now lads!!

    We never had gravy made specifically for it. It was always served with the turkey and ham. Maybe others do. It has a lovely flavour and generally isn't a dry meat so the gravy isnt needed me thinks.

    Yep you can really smell it around the english market in the run up to Christmas. You can get it all year round there and others butcher just at Christmas by and large. I have seen it being sold in the run up to Christmas in other counties but most people I've asked haven't had it.

    Vegetable soup

    Roast potatoes.
    Mashed potatoes.
    Cabbage
    Carrots.
    Broccoli.
    Turnip.
    Parsnips.
    Sprouts.
    Peas.

    Vegan ice cream and sliced melon.

    Lots of 7up!

    Snake are chipsticks, popcorn, choices chocolate, Bourbon biscuits and jelly tots :)

    Haven't had Xmas dinner at home since we moved into it over 10 years ago.

    Always have Xmas at the Mother in law's place, so big dinner with all the trimmings and none of the hassle of having to prepare it.

    Oh and copious amounts of red wine to ease the pain of having to listen to the incessant ramblings of the in-laws!

    Well, for the last 3 yrs (courtesy of my fella who was a proper trained chef in London restaurants, before he became a chainsawing forestry worker over here) we do a big buffet style dinner, as we're both sick of turkey and having to have the massive dinner coincide with the small gap in appetite between the kids eating sweets, and the kids eating sweets again. Not to mention us eating sweets.

    So we do a boiled ham with a honey and mustard glaze, a meat tureen (possibly game), last year we did spiced beef but maybe not this year - don't know yet (maybe a duck, or other bird), all sorts of veg including home made coleslaw or sauerkraut or both, some spud based thing, and lots of different home made dips with fresh raw veg to dip in (and some crips, like...). Basic rule is that it can be frozen, and/or chilled and just as good cold. Fruit based relishes and many cheeses/crackers also. YUM! With a desert that is preferably choc/cream/shoe-pastry based (that's my department, along with the ham).

    Jaysus, I'm full as a tick just reading that...Mmmm :D

    Edit: And STUFFING! Even if there's nothing to be stuffed! Tradition, and all that.....
