    Evening all,

Pictures from a trip to Galway earlier today, plus from Heuston early this morning with a V.I.P. passenger. President Michael D. Higgins on the 0800 Heuston - Cork.

I've got to say that business to/from Galway is extremely healthy to both Dublin and Limerick. The 1345 Galway - Limerick was noted with 3ICR 22058 nearly full upon departure, the 1440 Spl. and 1505 scheduled services to Heuston were 80% full and standing room only respectively. The 1630 short working to Athenry had about 100 passengers and the 1420 Limerick - Galway was 4x2800 with at least 140 odd passengers arriving into Athenry with another large crowd to join it into Galway. Finally, the 1720 Galway - Heuston (4ICR) was standing room only leaving Galway. Long may it continue!

    Enjoy!

Great to see good numbers but the major punctuality needs to be addressed on Galway route. You won't keep passengers if services run up to 30 minutes late. I mean when did the 15.05 actually arrive on time in Heusotn on Fridays. Actually on time and not 10 minutes after.

Any idea why these wheel sets don't go by rail ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,124 ✭✭✭The_Wanderer

    Logistically it is easier.

I thought this might have been a 2600 class but the coaches look new (and different) and the photo is said to be 1961 - What class are they?

These seem to be 2600's, but from the Inchicore self build batch. I was scratching my head about these last week and figured out after a bit of Googling.

I'll post a link to Irish Rail Fan's New which mentions a build of six railcars in 1957 based on BUT chassis, but with straighter bodywork:

There are some pictures of a railcar set in action in Albert Quay, which I'll post when boards.ie lets me.

Thanks Seankmk1 - look forward to that. They look quite well, I must say

Six more cars were built at Inchicore in 1956 based on the mechanical design of the AEC cars, they were numbered 2660-2665, with the design hand of Oliver Bulleid. Around 1961 they were rebuilt as non-powered intermediates. They had similar "slab" sides to other Inchicore built vehicles 2666/67/68

Can you confirm that the middle coach on 52 is numbered 22252. Forgot to check the number earlier as there is a problem!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,124 ✭✭✭The_Wanderer

    Vehicle is 22452.

    3ICR are numbered as follows:

    xx being the set number.
    223xx + 224xx + 222xx

    5ICR are numbered as follows:
    223XX + 224XX + 226XX + 227XX + 221XX
(The 225XX vehicles were removed for sets 22011 - 22020 with 22531 going into 22011 and 22532 into 22012 etc).

    4ICR are numbered as follows:
    22011 - 22020 sets.
    223xx + 224xx + 2253x + 222xx.

    22021 - 22030
    223xx + 224xx + 2264x or 2274x + 222xx

    22041 - 22045
    223xx + 224xx + 225xx + 222xx.
