When you are just about to finish your TUS placement your supervisor will give you a letter for the SW, and a small jar of vaseline,, the letter will be of no use to you whatsoever ,, but the jar of vaseline will come in very handy..

call into the office on the friday your down to finish. the letter will state that your finished on that day.

that what I did and they gave me the forms to fill in there and then in the office.

no payment first week but they issued larger than normal payment on last tus payment.
the only circumstances that a larger than normal payment will issue in your last week will be for either untaken annual leave or, as is the case this week, the bonus payment. There will be no adjustment to cover processing delays with your local DSP office

I've a question. Throughout my year I've taken hardly any annual leave or bank holidays. What happens if I don't use them? Do I get paid extra at the end for them? Or are they lost?

Hi guys the tus scheme I'm slaving for is closed for two weeks over Xmas the placement guy told me it will come out of my anual holidays even though like I say the company is closed for two weeks.
    Does this seem right?

    Cheers.

If the org you work with is closing from the Friday 19th Dec until Mon Jan 5th, you will need to use 6 days from your holiday balance.

My lovely Supervisor took me out for a farewell lunch today (not reimbursed through her job, though I didn't know this until after we'd eaten. It made it an even nicer meal then :) ) and a good chat about things. I showed her the forms the SW had given me. She wasn't aware that people leaving Tus had to fill these in and is now going to look into it further.

My supervisor also wasn't aware of this and told me I wouldn't have to fill out any forms! You think they'd be better informed. The lines of communication seems completely shut between Tús and Social Welfare. As I said before when I asked in SW office when I'd be back in payment, I was told, and I quote: "I have no clue." Helpful!

I can say with certainty that this incompetence is not the norm, thankfully.

it takes about a fortnight to get sw payments activated after finishing Tús.
the supervisor should have a completion letter to be handed into sw.

i gather some supervisors are a bit more in tune with what's needed than others.

I have an interview with TUS next week and I was told in the letter that I received that I have to choose three of the listed placements that interest me but unfortunately there was nothing there that caught my eye.

I actually sent back the original letter last month telling them that I wasn't interested in TUS and told them my reasons but they sent for me anyway and pretty much told me to say yes or else my JSB would be terminated.

So is it a case of they will just put me on any scheme to get my off the live register or will I have any sort of choice where I could end up for 12 months?

The participant should go into payment the following week after completing the programme. He/she should receive 2 days payment - for the Monday and Tuesday ( they get that on the Thursday ) and full payment resumes the week after

Ah well what will be will be, I bulk bought tin tomatoes, pasta, logs and turf today and just in case, spent the Christmas Bonus on an electricity top up. Just in case things are not sorted by the Christmas shut down :)

Hi, I finished my Tus scheme on Friday,,,going into SWO tomorrow, hopefully it'll be a seamless transition with payment but I'm pessimistic.

As I have said 2 or 3 pages back,, The TUS Programme can be a good thing,, On my placement I really get to help people. At first my role was to teach basic PC skills to people that really needed help. But it has become much more than just that.

I sort out online bank accounts,, show them how to pay bills online,, do their lotto online,, I go down to the phone shop and get them better phones, as some were on contracts and were due phone upgrades, "Free Phones", "they thought I was joking",, Till one girl walked out of the O2 shop with a Samsung Galaxy S5 . I set up PayPal accounts, and all the other real world stuff we take for granted.

So should it not be fair for us to think that "when a placement is over we go straight back to where we where" WHY should someone have to wait because the deciding officer from their Social Welfare office is on two weeks holidays. "WTF"

So surly it is fair for a TUS participant who has finished a years placement, to expect that the people running the TUS Programme to have Ironed Out All The Creases.

Certain companies/businesses that use TUS are not legal in it's own sense, regarding ALSAA Dublin airport. No company or business for profit can partake in TUS. ALSAA is a for-profit business, and they are in error of this policy. This should be looked into as they cannot partake in TUS. Read the pdf regarding it's particulars.
Tús is a community work placement initiative providing short-term working opportunities for people who are long-term unemployed. The work opportunities are to benefit the community and are provided by the not for profit community and voluntary organisations in both urban and rural areas

Maybe some-one should take this up with the higher heads within TUS. ;)

How do you know they have people on Tus?

Fair enough. Dodgy set up there, for sure. I'm surprised the local Partnership signed it off.

ALSAA should be investigated because it clearly states that only not for profit organisations can apply to use TUS. ALSAA are in breach of this TUS policy.

Organisations will make every effort to manipulate these schemes ( ala. JobBridge / Tescos )given half a chance. The responsibility (and blame for this) lies firmly with the implementing body (local partnership). It is they who should be reported.

ALSAA should also have been aware of the policy in regards to taking on TUS workers, they are also at fault here, blindly taking on these folk without checking. I have some-one looking into this at the moment.

My experience on the TUS scheme was very bad. As I live in Balbriggan the scheme was handled by Fingal Leader partnership. They had no regard for health and safety, firstly I stated that there should be a first and box on site, my supervisor replied "I have one in the boot of my car" I said that's great but I only see you once a week! They wouldn't supply one. The entire experience totally sucked, My supervisor was quite happy to ring me on my personal mobile phone, even out side working hours. It is illegal for an employer to contact you on your mobile without your written consent for them to do so. If a mobile phone is needed for an employer to contact you then it has to be supplied by the employer. I ended up changing my phone number and not letting them have my new number.

This is employment on the cheap and totally crap. If your TUS supervisor is contacting you on your phone without your consent they are breaking the law

Ok I doubt this is true. There's no obligation for employers to supply phones, and employers contacting you is not breaking the law.

I am of course open to correction.

OK, after a few days of discussion to folks that were previously paid workers in ALSAA Dublin airport road, they said that they were let go and ALSAA took on TUS workers instead of paying a wage. This is displacing real jobs. They won't go on the record though so it's going to be tough to make them come forward. This is the usual thing, afraid to speak out.

If any person that worked in ALSAA Dublin airport road wants to respond to this above scenario or has been let go from your job for them to take on TUS workers send me a PM.

    Shocking stuff.

It is, but I can't do anything unless these people I talked with come on the record.

This is why things never get done. It seems to be a hindrance for folk.

Presumably then these people are now unemployed? Whats to lose?
