Most if not all of the classics are from the 70s 80 and 90s.

Is this a sign of the music industry in general or what's the crack with it??

    Name 10 classics from each

    I'll then give you 10 from 2000-2009

    All been done.

Christmas songs are generally horrific regardless of year of release.

What decent artist with any self respect would bother their holes penning a 'wonderful' Christmas song, while they know everyone's eyes and ears are on X Factor.....

Anyway the answer to your question is: Because of X Factor.

Its true, but you arent going back far enough, and need to go back to the 50s for the best of them all :

I would imagine that the old stuff is more favourable because its original, for example the Band Aid latest version stuff is just dire for use of a better word

    Play the Christmas song game.
    1. Type "Christmas" into you tube.
    2. Type the name of any random artist or band and search.
    3. Enjoy bizarre festive fun.

Note. Much more fun with a skinful of gargle on board.

Does your Granny always tell you
That the old songs are the best?
Then she's up and rock and rollin' with the rest....

Because older generations - generally, but not without exceptions - place more importance on the concept of a Christmas song and as there's a surfeit of classics already to hand, it's not an issue.

yeah i'm gonna say its more than likely because we grew up with the oldies

One off tunes (cf:singles) - with the odd exception - just don't pervade on the national conciousness these days as well. You can get a tune to number one by selling a relatively minuscule amount so the old Christmas tunes were literally consumed by millions of people and as such had a hold on the minds onf people (and by extension, their kids) in a way that just doesn't happen these days.

Nope. Nice song, but that is most definitely NOT a noughties Christmas classic.

Get cracking on some lyrics and I'll get working on the tune. We'll be millionaires.

Naturally, the amount of good ideas for songs diminishes as time goes on because the ideas are being used.

    Slade... ITS CHRISTMAS!
It may be old, but everyone
Sings it, and knows it's that feel good time of year.
Even if you do have problems
At the time, it will put a smile on your face
