All I'd say is it may be a "work day" for you but I work weekends I work nights and days all 12 hour shifts so anytime day or night 7 days a week could be my "work day" or my time off so you can't say that because they are there on a Friday they don't work today I happen to be off for example but I would in my arse que up at that ha

Note my use of the term "large proportion".

    rant

I never made any claim of moral superiority over those queing up for black Monday.

If you feel I was looking down on anyone, maybe that's down to your own insecurity.

I made the reasonable observation that a lot of those people probably aren't working, beyond that I made no judgement.

You're the one who swung into the thread with the personal insults, telling anyone who didn't agree with your own opinion to "get fcuked".

Every year I travel two and a half hours up to Belfast in the wee hours to queue for a new iPhone. I've been doing it now since 2010 :D

    Again... "large proportion".

Nowhere do I use the word "scroungers", nowhere do I use the word "all".

Just seen this this morning on the way to work............WTF?

I've heard of it on Stephens Day before but now its on "Black Friday" too, I've seen people queuing with fold up chairs outside Footlocker, God knows how long they've been there. I can never imagine queuing for anything.

What do you think of queuing outside shops for a sale?
Would you queue outside a shop?

    No.

It makes you look desperate, and I remember the TV footage from the Soviet Union where people had to queue given the shelves weren't exactly overflowing...
I think I would have to be either very poor or a person who needs something but isn't fond of spending money when they have plenty.

I wouldn't queue overnight to get a €400 TV for €150. But there are families who could not otherwise afford a good TV and, for people in such a situation, a night's discomfort is worth it for the €250 saved.

    They don't need a €400 TV...

I saw people queuing outside a charity shop yesterday :/

Charity shops show, 'special items' in their window display, to drum up interest from passer-bys. The window display is then sold off on a certain day.

You can get some very nice items. Lots of retro jewelry, cameras, furniture.

I've turned up in front of an Oxfam at 6am in winter.. :(

About 10 years ago me ma seen an advert for Currys stating that the first 10 people at each store on Boxing Day (this was up'north) would get a big-ass TV for £300 instead of the usual £600.

She convinced me to go and try and get one. I got there an hour before opening and was third in line. As soon as the doors opened the people behind me just rushed ahead and started grabbing the vouchers from the guy opening the door. It was brutal and undignified. Oddly every single person clambering around the sales assistant was claiming to be first in line. A few punches were thrown too.

Realising I wouldn't be getting a TV I just walked away with a feeling of relief and also a slight feeling dread at the though that I live on the same planet as these people.

People who have little money have more need of a TV than those who can afford to go out a lot. And I was writing about a €150 TV.

That's a case of the retailer behaving irresponsibly. If they create that sort of expectation, they should manage the situation that inevitably arises.

They give the big bargains to generate interest, and I think they consider that the sight of people fighting to get into the shop is better for them than having an orderly procedure.

The thing is they did try to manage the situation. A sales assistant stood at the door with vouchers, supposedly the first 10 people through would get a voucher which could be exchanged at the cash desk for the actual TV so there would be no mad rush in the store. People still managed to go mental.

It's also worth noting that a lot of the electrical "bargains" are actually made specially for the day. Off-brand TVs with older or low grade components. You aren't getting Philips or Sony grade for those sort of prices.

I profoundly dislike all childish abbreviations ("leccy" instead of "electricity", for one), but "telly" takes the cake. Makes me want to rip their faces off!:mad::mad:

Possible anger issues aside, I guess people buying a pile of stuff in the "sales", especially when technology is involved, are probably hoping to make a quick buck on eBay.

Sgt Paul Marshall, a Metropolitan Police officer, tweeted: "Even on #BlackFriday shoving people to the floor so you can get £20 off a Coffee Maker is still an assault

I don't under stand how people can push/kick people to get a deal is acceptable behavior to these bargain hunters today but any other day they wouldn't even think about doing it.

Ah ye did. Whatever way you would like to dress it up, your below comment screams moral superiority. If you left it at "I suspect most of the people that are queuing may be unemployed". That is a non aligned opinion. The below is very much a dig. Just quite how high is your little finger while drinking from the "I'm better than you" cup?

"Suppose you have to occupy your mornings somehow when you don't need to work for a living."

I made no such "personal insult" upon my initial post on this thread. Maybe you should figure out what something means before using it as a bad reinforcing point. It was very much a general comment in which "get fcuked" was used. If you took it as an insult, that's your own insecurities playing out.

I myself, have no insecurities about people on the dole or people queuing for bargains.

Have a great weekend, DH. Make sure you don't queue for anything unless it's time appropriate. We wouldn't want anonymous, witty, brave people on the internet to have an opinion of you.

But, do they have any Polaroid TVs and if so. how much do they cost?

god no way would i queue - to buy what, more unnecessary rubbish.

it takes all my strength to work up the enery to go to the supermarkets for food/necessities:(

My opening comment may have been flippant and undiplomatic but the point still stands that a large proportion of those people in question will have been unemployed.

Still, not even half as flippant, undiplomatic or ugly as the blanket "get fcuked" you opened with to anyone who doesn't share your opinion or the ad hominem comments that followed.

Unlike you, I didn't bring me into it. I never claimed that what I was doing was any more worthwhile than what those in question were doing. I pointed out the ridiculosness of the situation, that's all. So the "I'm better than you" slant is entirely of your own invention.

You clearly have some insecurities on this issue as you seem eager to make it unneccessarily personal with me and paint me as something I'm not with your "little finger" comment and derogatory "advice" about how I spend my weekend.

"Get fcuked" is a personal insult, you insulted every poster who expressed a negative opinion on Black Friday. Every poster is a person.

This is going nowhere, lads! And what's worse, you're losing out on some great black Friday deals.

Witty or brave? Damn, that's what I was going for! If those two words "get" and "fcuked" have annoyed you, then I pity you. People love "ultimate frivolous pursuits"...it's the run up to Christmas. People buy stuff for themselves and people they love. Who gives a fcuk when they do it. It's logical at this time of year for people to bargain hunt. I suppose you have a problem with that do ya?

It is very possible they are unemployed. Why don't you go out there and conduct a survey? Let's see how brave and witty you are face to face with the people you are looking down on. Or would you rather continue to make ill informed assumptions from a safe vantage point?

How dare unemployed people leave their house!

Happy Friday, Seasons Greetings, Bah Humbug and have a greeeaaaat day Deadhand!

Big kiss, little kiss, big kiss, hug.

    good post!! well said.
