I've seen people queue outside Aldi/Lidl on Thurs. and Sun. mornings to avail of their special offers and bargains, so it doesn't surprise me. I hate queuing. Patience isn't always a virtue.

The only time patience is a virtue is when your waiting for herself to get ready

I know it's madness lads I agree with you. Have you ever heard of shift workers though? You may be right, it may be unemployed people as well

Oh, of course. Or workers that took the morning or day off, retired persons, people on holiday, etc.

I'd still wager all these types will be outnumbered by those on the dole.

That's slightly different, as you usually know exactly what you want before you go and queue.
I'll admit do doing this once before.
However, a huge majority of the 'Black Friday sheep' tend to just queue in the hope of a massive bargain, or bargains, that they're not sure exactly what until they get their hands on it!

In times of statistical paucity, a wager is your only man.

Must be the endorphin-rush from shopping that drives them...

Wow, imagine queuing outside a shop before it opens. How sad is that.
Lets just be clear.......QUEUING OUTSIDE A SHOP. What's gone wrong in your life that you need to do that?

Seen a video on Facebook of people actually in a brawl in Tesco over items in England.

It makes them happy and it does me no harm. That's okay.

There is a filtering mechanism: people who do have a job to go to are less likely to make the time for queuing like that, so it gives people on SW, student grants, or pensions a chance to get a nice bit of kit at the sort of prices that they can afford.

Great tradition to start copying and to encourage seeing as Black Friday in the States leads to brawls, crushes and the odd murder.

I don't see the harm in it, that's if the person that is queuing for something they would have bought at full price anyway. Sure, if they get a few quid off then great.

I can't believe there are people in here giving out about people queuing in the hope of even getting a small bargain. Immediately coming to the conclusion that they are on the dole, so what if they are anyway. Get fcuked.

Personally, there's nothing I want enough that would warrant me queuing up.

I only queue for Jesus bread in Mass, that's it.

Im queueing outside Footlocker right now for a sale for my boat.
    Anyone want anything ?n

How much do you want for it?

This is in the UK. Great gas altogether! http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2852585/Mayhem-Black-Friday-begins-Shoppers-clash-supermarkets-trying-grab-bargains-Boots-Game-Curry-s-PC-world-websites-crash-thousands-start-hunt-Christmas-deals.html

It's logical and reasonable to assume that if so many people can devote the entire morning of a work day to an ultimately frivolous pursuit a large proportion of those people will not be working for a living.

Either way, telling people to get fcuked from a safe vantage is neither witty or brave.

Maybe while they're all standing there someone could ask them if they're paying their property tax and water charges!
This Christmas consumerism is gone daft. Its still November. Saw the 2014 edition of The Cork Holly Bough for sale yesterday. Thats just wrong.

We and the brits used to take the piss out of Americans going crazy in a store grabbing stuff like lunatics.

Its amazing how people get so easily led by a imported marketing gimmick.

It's an imitation of some American nonsense, isn't it?

Consumerism at it's finest, going to great lengths to buy a pile of ****e you don't really need, with money you don't really have

Suppose you have to occupy your mornings somehow when you don't need to work for a living.

"pile of ****e you don't really need, with money you don't really have "

    is that you tyler durden???:)

All I'd say is it may be a "work day" for you but I work weekends I work nights and days all 12 hour shifts so anytime day or night 7 days a week could be my "work day" or my time off so you can't say that because they are there on a Friday they don't work today I happen to be off for example but I would in my arse que up at that ha

Witty or brave? Damn, that's what I was going for! If those two words "get" and "fcuked" have annoyed you, then I pity you. People love "ultimate frivolous pursuits"...it's the run up to Christmas. People buy stuff for themselves and people they love. Who gives a fcuk when they do it. It's logical at this time of year for people to bargain hunt. I suppose you have a problem with that do ya?

It is very possible they are unemployed. Why don't you go out there and conduct a survey? Let's see how brave and witty you are face to face with the people you are looking down on. Or would you rather continue to make ill informed assumptions from a safe vantage point?

How dare unemployed people leave their house!

Happy Friday, Seasons Greetings, Bah Humbug and have a greeeaaaat day Deadhand!

Big kiss, little kiss, big kiss, hug.

I had to look up Footlocker on the internet to find out what it is. Am I too late to queue?

OK Spock really??? they might not be housewives whose husbands work quite hard and because they have 3 kids looking for toys, have decided getting in line (though undignified) is worth shaving off 30% the cost of their clothes, toys etc budget?.
It's logical to assume many shift working fathers have finished at 6am and put sleep aside for the exact same reason?? cutting their stretched budget?? Or early rising over 65'ers who will be buying for nieces, nephews, sons, daughters etc, oh how they love a bargain!!!

but no!! it's logical to assume most are all scroungers!!! with no jobs to go to!! That's just dismissive!!

I think he's jealous he's in work and missing out on all the bargains.

There were a few shopping centre sale nights on last night, in Blanchardstown and Newbridge at least. The OH was in the Whitewater and said there were queues to get into Lifestyle Sports and Fields. A few lads wanting to get deals on engagement rings for their Christmas proposals I suppose.

ah no to be fair, I think it's a strange practice and not for me but consider how people are stretched this year. It's dismissive to assume their all dole cheats and scroungers marching out with 48" TV's buy the half dozen.
You wont see the rich or upper classes in there doing the uncouth undignified dash... and why I hear you ask????? cos they've the money and so have no real motivation to do so!!

NO for me personally but I don't have any kids and am presently employed. where I neither??? Id que also I'd imagine..Id hate it, but id do it.

I NEED MORE STUFF. CRAMMING MY LIFE WITH MORE STUFF IS LIFE AFFIRMING AND MAKES ME HAPPY. I AM DEFINED BY MY POSSESSIONS.

    This just baffles me.

It'll be a cold day in hell before I'm queuing outside a shop for anything. Does anyone really need something that badly to spend the night outside a shop?

Listened to the business report on the radio this morning, and how the company that handles Visa and Mastercard payments said today will be their busiest day of the year. So a lot of these people are probably buying things they can't really afford. Then they will be moaning about their debt they can't service and saying "the credit card company shouldn't have given it to me".

Update: people fighting over TVs in Antrim this morning. Suppose its a change from them fighting over flags.

    In some cases, yes.

I wouldn't queue overnight to get a €400 TV for €150. But there are families who could not otherwise afford a good TV and, for people in such a situation, a night's discomfort is worth it for the €250 saved.
