Wasn't my nomination to begin with, just showing allegiance to my fellow golfers by not dissin their course! A few courses on here that i dont agree with but so be it!

Best links & best parkland in the county (and probably the country) for sure, but hard to compare. If I had to choose, I'd vote for the European.

Sandy Hills in Rosapena is miles better than Bundoran. Murvagh too but I like both the Ballyliffen courses and would have them ahead.

I think you always like the course you consistently play well on.

Most people in Derry play links golf in Donegal with Ballyliffin, North West and Greencastle being favorites.

Derry courses are Parkland and the best would be City of Derry GC, a proper old club & course set up with some lovely views of the Foyle estuary but it can get a little wet on some of the back holes depending on the recent weather.

Portstewart strand course is a fantastic golf course (front nine in particular) - not sure on distance from Derry - stayed in Portrush both times I played there.

Try Roe Park Resort outside Limavady. Decent parkland at the resort as well.
Castlerock is about 20-25 miles from there. Portstewart is a bit farther. Portstewart is superb for 13 holes or so. The last few are disappointing... by comparison.

Lots of replies in relation to links courses, my local , laytown Bettystown G. C. not getting much credit, to be fair management & staff have it looking real well this Autumn. A bit small but a gem I will add.

Yes, but we are talking about "The Best",

Very crude , sure there are 100s of courses that are class but just happen to be in a county with a world class course.

Still interesting if certain courses will come out top.

Like The Island in Dublin for example.

Who am I to deny anyone who knows multiple counties the opportunity to vote on them all? Nope, these all counted.

But the ones that went links: choice, parkland: choice, those were abridged to their links choice (we all prefer links golf anyway, don't we).

Long meandering replies mostly got passed by, mainly because I'm a lazy editor.

Live in Westmeath - Glasson Golf

Counties I play in a lot:

Meath - headfort golf club - new course
Offaly - Tullamore

I'd imagine Carlow - will win out in Carlow.

I'd suggest Kildare could be one of the hardest to pick.

Monty
O'Meara
Palmerstown

Then there are other clubs lads will mention

Royal Curragh
Naas
Dunmurray

Then there is another group of good courses, too many to mention.

At this time of the year it's reasonable, £40 midweek/£60 weekend. But beware of the mats: phone ahead to see if it's worth your while IMHO.

Thanks a mill for that. Do they play off mats in the winter? Nothing worse I'd rather pay a bit more and play off the turf.
