    Welbeck isn't the answer.

Unless the question is " what former man utd striker, with the balance and coordination of a newly born giraffe, managed to score 20 premiership goals in 92 games from the 2008-9 season before signing for a big London club nicknamed the gunners?"

Or what player has actually scored and performed well in Champions League knockout stages and top internationals maybe? No?

Also I hate stats for strikers that give appearances without the context of actual minutes played or games played in their favoured position.

Yeah but there are several correct answers to your question whereas there is only one correct answer to mine

Glen Johnson accepts Roma transfer after rejecting new Liverpool contract.
Glen Johnson has rejected the offer of a new two-year contract at Liverpool to agree terms with Italian side Roma, according to reports.

Johnson, who is out of contract at the end of the season, was offered a new deal by Liverpool this week, which included a 50% pay cut.

And despite the Reds being hopeful of securing the 30-year-old’s services, it’s now claimed that Johnson has rejected that to agree terms on a switch to Roma.

The deal would start in January, with Roma ready to pay a nominal fee to get him out of Anfield as soon as possible.

That Arkadiusz Milik fella that 8-10 knows about looks very handy for Ajax and Poland but Leverkusen own him.

Ajax have the option to buy him in January for 2.5m euros. Bargain

Just confirms what anyone watching already knows. I warned about this happening and surely enough it has. 10 players with Gerrard on the pitch (nine with Balotelli) no wonder Liverpool are midtable.

Of course Sky is still a cheerleader so after pointing out the obvious they still include

    Alas Rodgers seems to agree.

As long as Gerrard is playing every game Liverpool will be pinned back in their own half for too much of the game.

This is bull****. The problem is that Rodgers invented a role for Gerrard that he thought would get better longevity out of him.

The reality is that this role was never going to work. What has always made Gerrard great was his dynamism and deciveness, particularly in driving the team forward at important junctures.

He is not a defensive player.

It worked a treat for 4 months as opposing teams sat off Gerrard and with lots of space he was able to dictate the play and use his passing range to spring counter attacks. It worked so well in fact that opposing teams are now man marking our dm to nullify our attacks and Gerrard is struggling as a result. Unfortunately rodgers hasn't adapted to this and our other mids aren't make use of the extra space afforded to them.

Rodgers saying forwards not involved to date will get unexpected gametime due to sturridge injury, surely borini will be playing now.

With Gerrard sometimes receiving the attention he is from opposing midfielders you'd think coutinho etc would get the ball from the wingbacks instead, than if he's man marked too someone else n sterling par exampla should be in lots of space.

    http://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/latest-news/174774-rodgers-reflects-on-sturridge-setback?

"It happened in a session and it was quite innocuous. He did it when he just flicked the ball, it wasn't a shot or anything that looked serious.

"But obviously he felt the pain and then when the medical team told me the next day after the scan it was disappointing.

"Whether Daniel needs to see a specialist is something that the medical team are looking into.

"I think that's his ninth injury on that thigh from previous clubs and here so there is an issue there somewhere.

"The scan shows a slight tear just below where he had a previous injury."

With Sturridge set to miss further action, Rodgers is urging other players within the squad to step up and grasp any opportunities that may come their way.

"Now we just have to concentrate and focus on the players we do have," the manager added. "It's that simple - make the best of what we have available.

"At this moment in time it's about what is within the squad because that's the players we have available.

"It will present an opportunity to the guys who have maybe been on the sidelines for quite a while.

"We can't worry about what we had last season or what we have lost. We have to look at the players we have. We have an exciting period of games coming up.

"We want to ensure we go back to our basics and be really hard to beat and be strong and aggressive.

"We want to make an impact in front of goal. Now there's an opportunity for some players who didn't think they would get a chance."

I find it hilarious that after Borini was told go find another club hes now being tasked with saving our season.....

The chances of Johnson staying with us are about 10%, I'd say.

Borini's not the answer either being honest, hard working et etc but not a goalscorer. BR wanted Lambert/Mario/Sturridge as his striking options.

I find it hilarious how he came to that conclusion.

Balotelli hasn't scored more than 18 goals in a season. His record season of 18 goals also included 4 peno's. Lambert i presume was bought as an impact player, coming off the bench and filling in during cup games etc During his time at Southampton he came on 8 times in the last 2 seasons, netting once. Sturridge of course on his day is fantastic. But he has been injured a lot and has missed 27 games since signing for us. Since the 12/13 season he has missed 38 games through injury or 147 days and now counting.

I hope he does it but it is highly improbable.

The fact that some fans seem to be putting genuine hope into this happening is a level of desperation that a Liverpool fan can only exhibit.

Simply not good enough that we find ourselves in this situation. I like BR and hope he turns it around but it is simply not good enough.

In my humble opinion, Borini, Lallana and Can have to start. They seem to be the few that can pressure the opposition.

I'd also start Kolo as he seems to communicate to other defenders and tries to push people out of the box. Unfortunately I cannot see it happening...

Kolo is the saviour of our season, he should be played left wing though.

How much more proof is required that Mario cannot play on his own up front. I mean it has a 100% fail rate over 10 games ,its not suddenly going to come good.

    Manquillo-Skrtel-Toure-Moreno
    Can
Hendo -Allen (if fit Lallana if not )
    Sterling
    Mario -Boroni

Has to be tried ,we are at desperation stakes

In fairness to Balotelli he's not getting the service. He needs runners off him. Hopefully Gerrard, Sterling and Lallana would provide that with a solid base of Hendo and Can to hold the fort.
Balotelli has never struck up a forward partnership in any club he's been to - he's not about to start now.

    .

    Unexpected game time! WTF

Sturridge has already been out for 2 months what was he doing with these forwards for the last two months that suddenly they are about to get unexpected game time.

I presume this analysis of our transfer strategy by Tony Barrett in the Times today has already been posted? http://www.thetimes.co.uk/tto/sport/football/the-game/article4274285.ece?shareToken=b5ed10b6ebae1ca9fc9f5bb4cc38a1ad

    It's pretty damning.

    Again WFT.

Why have they been on the sidelines for the last two months while Sturridge has been out injured?

WTF Has the manager been waiting for to give these players a chance other than being on the sidellines while we have been playing sh1t!

If borini decked off there'd have been 13m and the Mario money, someone else might have been bought. Borini staying was a problem, he was told in no uncertain terms he wasn't wanted.

First time I've unfollowed this thread. The ease at which fans on here have jumped on Rodgers back is just annoying me too much. All this "he's under massive pressure" "it's all his fault we're in this mess" rubbish is a joke. He almost led us to the league title last year. He deserves a lot more than a few months grace if the inevitable downturn in results from losing the 3rd best player in the world happened. He deserves more than a year too btw. He's a young manager, there will be times when the learning process is hard. As fans we're going to have to deal with it.

Some on here seem to think that we can click out fingers sign x y and z and everything would have been fine. It doesn't work that way, we are not the MASSIVE club some seem to think we are. All this "it's not good enough for Liverpool" muck is embarrassing. As if we have a bankroll the likes of city have or we're a club of the stature of real or barca. We're firmly in the 3rd tier of clubs in Europe at the moment. The way out of that for us is to buy players with potential to be top class. We can't compete with the wages for the top players so forget about them.

I think and hope any fans who think Rodgers should be feeling the pressure are very wrong. We have a fantastic young manager and I hope he's here for a long time.

You think we'd buy a 29M Striker? And who would it be?

Nah, I think it will still be Mario and another Cheap Punt.

Besides, with Sturridge being Made of Glass, we actually need at least 4 Strikers.

if we are paying extra for Origi they should bring him back now that way we'll know by the time the transfer window opens whether he'll be any use for us or not.
