Sitting in the Tennents Brewery in Glasgow enjoying their Drygate microbrewery. Think there's 24 beers on tap, including unpasteurised Tennents. Not sure if I'm brave enough for that.

Do it. It can't be any more evil than it usually is.

A friend of mine was renting out his house for a while and he had some problems with them.

Bru Ri on the menu tonight. 4 for a tenner. How bad can it be?

Probably terrible but there wasn't a great selection in the offi I was in and I fancied giving the brewery the benefit of the doubt. Support your own etc

Hoping I'm rewarded with an above average IPA but I'm not holding my breath from the reviews I've read.

Edit... So the reviews are right. Stay clear of this one lads. Poor to say the least. Watery, you can taste the alcohol and that's only at 5%, imagine if it was stronger. Bitter flavour wise but not in a good way. In general I'm not surprised but still a little disappointed.

    Left Hand Milk Stout Nitro

On draught in Against The Grain. Very tasty stout. Creamy, smooth, just lovely.

Had it in New York a few times. Lovely stuff.
    Theybdon't distribute to California though.

Yeah I thought it was very sweet but almost synthetic one dimensional sweet with a roastiness rather than a smokiness. It was also too carbonated. I did get nicer as it warmed too.

    Solas Irish Stout

What did you make of it?
I was delighted with the price, not so much with the taste.

BrewDog / Stone / Magic Rock Magic Stone Dog

Not my cup of tea really. Lemon or citrus but spicey and hoppy but it doesn't work for me.

I liked it, one of the best saison's I've had actually, and my expectations were low

I found it just a tad watery with little carbonation. A little more body and it would be grand.

Why is it strange? If you Google 'Solas Irish Stout' there it is. ;)

Just had a Mikkeller Sally Munroe, it's a 2.8% American Pale Ale. For what it is it's pretty decent.

Having a Mikkeller Chill Pils Orange as I type. Hmmm, smells like a Peach Schnapps and orange juice and and the taste isn't a million miles away either. In my younger days I was partial to an aul Peach Schnapps, I'm not so sure now.

I liked the Chill Pils Yuzu a lot more.

Took a trip down to the Back Page between Broadstone and Phibsboro. They have their own beer on tap - a dark mild made for them by Rascals. I went for it and found it to be very pleasant indeed. Lovely malt backbone with a relatively low hop profile. Kind of like an Irish red but with more body to it and a chewier mouth-feel.

    Had a BrewDog Vs Weihenstephan,
India Pale Weizen. It's a heavily hopped Hefeweizen. I didn't think much of it! Have been disappointed with they're latest collaborations, their Magic Stone Dog was poor too.

Had the Solas Red a couple of days back, very ordinary, light on flavour.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,431 ✭✭✭Sky King

Galway Bay red ale. Cloudy (completely opaque actually) and zero head retention - it looked like a glass of coke after 2 minutes. Flavour was OK but I've had better - much much better. Ironically, there's some text on the side of the bottle saying that they 'don't drink crap beer'

Can't remember the name of Trouble Brewing's new IPA, but it was lovely. On tap in Cassidy's.
