The pic is a fake, it looks as if someone merged two photos to portray the scene in context

Looking at the vid, it does appear a brick is thrown but it is not as close as depicted in the photoshopped pic

Not much coverage on RTE .

The only "scumbags" are those in power .

    Tick Tock Tick Tock.

Remember remember the 10th of December .

If Paul Murphy, Boyd Barrett and Mr Property Developer Wallace get into power they will drive us all back to the door of the IMF.

Indo pic has gone viral with many mutations, this is seriously discrediting that rag, about time.

Special effects mate, just like Hollywood. Guess Joan was right about these smartphones.
Are we to believe that the two newspapers are colluding to produce a fake video and a fake photograph both depicting the same event?

In fairness the photo did look like it could have been edited, but there's an incredible amount of confirmation bias going on around here.

I would be far more worried about FF getting back into power under Michael Martin.

Those people you named MIGHT bring the IMF back into town but FF and MM DID bring them in.

Is that the same IMF who are coming here next week to make sure we're doing what they told us to do?

    Here ya go.

The gards should be pressing charges alright. Certainly not a against the homeowner though.

I thought I was going blind or that you were taking the piss. That video is nearly 2 minutes longer than the one johnny68 posted. The one on the liberal.ie website doesn't have 'the blasting of the crotch with the high pressure hose'.

Maybe the image in question was photoshopped, I don't know, but those promoting their opinion that it was photoshopped ignore the fact that clearly a brick was thrown at a Garda car in Jobstown. The Indo is correct about that. See, the great thing about bias is that it works both ways.

This is getting out of hand now, we are entering the greatest social divide this country has seen in decades.

Can see a 3 tier society emerging like certain other countries and its not going to be pretty

But he's got two feet, just one isn't visible because it's blocked by his leg. It's also pretty obvious he has two hands in the picture as well.

    Is it that amazing, really?

This is the level of distrust that happens when one man controls far to many of the media outlets in this country.

I think a level of "stupidity" is more suitable in this case.

    Absolutely.
How many decades did it take to build up community relations between Gardai and residents in these area's.
FG destroy it all in one term in office.

    Completely agree homer.

There is also the missing tier made up of all those people who have emigrated.

There is is a large part of the problem these guys earning pulling in 200k odd including expenses are so far removed from the pressure of average bill paying family's that they believe people have the money to give because they have it.

They are blind to people's ability to handle more cuts to their income.

Water charges will help working tax payers. By taking the expense away from the government's balance sheet they could reduce taxes next year and increase social welfare by an additional €500m.

Without a doubt a good portion of the rent-a-mob in Jobstown don't actually work and thus don't care nor have the brain power to understand the argument in favour. God forbid they might have to pay for something in society.

Real or fake I'd would surprise me little if a reporter handed someone a hundred note to make some good photos for joan to deflect about in the morning.

The media and the government are. Unscrupulous in their pursuit to tar all these protests with an 'element'

    Typical Sindo.

    The truth does n

"Tonight the Irish Independent showed their true colours by printing a deliberately embellished  and downright fake news report against the water protest.

In their online paper the printed the story that is copied in it’s entirety below just in case they delete it from their site. In the story they said that there are “rioters” in the anti-water protest and they posted a photograph of said “rioter” throwing a brick at a Garda car. They then linked the story to the protest at Joan Burton’s visit to Jobstown tonight.

The only problem is THE PHOTO IS FAKE. It has been PHOTOSHOPPED and photoshopped VERY BADLY!

We encourage everyone to download the photo and do the following
    - Download the image of the rioter throwing the brick
    - Enlarge the photo in your viewer until you see the pixels
    - look at the people in the background and note how the pixelation is consistent with the photo (because they are really there)
    - Now look at the rioter in the foreground, zoomed in you will see the inconsistent pixelation showing that the character has been photoshopped in (for God’s sake he is even missing a foot)
    - Now do the same with the brick and get the same result

What you have just witnessed is propaganda at it’s worst and most lazy

The Irish Independent has deliberately lied to the Irish public and actually manufactured the lie with graphic technology. This is an absolute scandal and I can guarantee you it is not the first time it has been done.

It clearly shows you cannot believe anything you read in the Irish Independent and those in the paper who have a ounce of honesty will demand the resignation of the editor."

Maybe I'm not techie savvy enough, but why did it look fake?

And why would anybody doctoring a photo that will be seen by 100s of thousands
do it badly (if it is done badly)?

And why would they do it at all? A massive risk for a fairly minimal gain methinks?

Which was my original point when I posted the photo - that the protest in Tallaght today wasn't entirely peaceful.
I think there were two arrests and a Garda car was damaged.

I do try to be kind.

I just assumed they saw it on someones twitter or something and bought it off them without checking if it was genuine. But the picture is pretty well backed up by the footage of him.
