I disagree. And it wasnt thuggery. Joan and the rest of them pontificate from their ivory towers about how having a mobile phone or a Christmas present for your child means they can justify robbing you because this apparently means you are loaded. People everywhere find that arrogance offensive especially coming from someone with the privilege or her pay and tax free perks. The tyrants need to hear people being angry. Because it doesnt seem to be sinking in just how precarious their positions are. They have no mandate to govern. Every election promise they ever made was broken.

I agree with metered water charges
The writing is on the wall for this shambolic government, even worse than the last lot of parasites, there will be a general election within months and they'll get absolutely destroyed by Independents, SF, People before Profit , Socialist party, this shambles Irish water will be scrapped once and for all.

I've never before seen the level of anger there is right now, people have had enough, there's only so much people can take.

If I was cynical like all the pro-side are about every bit of evidence the anti-side produces, then id say the government are deliberately staging these photo ops by sending ministers out into these areas so they can splash the pictures all over the papers to try and get sympathy for there obvious predicament of being stopped by all those bad protestors and sure I was terrified in the car blah be blah de blah (knowing full well what I was actually doing) and sure look I had to get the Gardai to get me out of there

    That's if I was cynical ofc ;)

When will the election be? SF will probably be the biggest loser from the current unrest. If we accept that the three old main parties will be wiped out. It happened in the recent two by elections where SF were favourites but they lost out in both.

At this point this whole affair is becoming a joke.

According to the latest speculation my water bill (remember since 1 November water is charged, so I’m currently paying an unknown amount for it) will be a maximum 176€ a year, however I can get 100€ back from the Department of Social Protection (in 4 x 25€ instalments). So the net cost to me is 76€, unless I use less water than my allowance.

However for sure the administration of Irish Water and the Cost of maintaining and paying out the 100€ via the Department of Social Protection is going to cost way more than the 76€, so who is going to pay for the promised modernisation of the network that is urgently needed?

And that is all hypothetical at this point because Irish Water is not engaging with me to send me an application pack because my property and meter are not on their system and for some reason they can’t deal with people that are not on their system.

This is not only a mess, this is a complete disaster. We need a better infrastructure for water, but this way we are going to end up with higher taxes in addition to the water charges as most (if not all) of the charges are going to be used for administration cost and government charges due to incompetence.

Two, one for public order and one for criminal damage, according to the rte website. The guards are showing a lot of restraint. They had grounds to arrest a lot more in my opinion but they'd only be making martyrs out of them if they did.

    When will the election be?
A better question might be how will an election be?

I can't see a very likely scenario that will result in the government falling anytime soon - which is not to say it won't happen.

No, it's a tax. They can't easily meter it or give a limited allowance to people for free. Conversely charging people for water usage is a charge not a tax.

According to the Irish Times today, 5 adults in a house will pay the same as 2.

    It's not charging for usage.

Alot of snobbery in reaction to todays events, the pro govt side must be getting desperate as the dissident label on the protesters backfired.

And that's where the sledgehammers come in is it? Now tell me, when your dream coalition of SF and the AAA collapse after a few months in power, will you be taking the sledge to them too?

Ah I see. You don't understand analogy. Ok I will try and dumb it down for you. You are blaming the victim of an attack for causing it by simply going into an area.

Me and my mam are watching the news and my mam laughed so much at the protest on the news and she says in relation to the Joan lock in - 'Pity about the b1tch. Why didn't they leave her there and let her wet herself.' A round of applause went to the protesters from here.
