having had a couple of cars like that recently, (my carina especially) you're better off doing the full rebuild and changing out the parts. If you don't you are in for more fun down the line!

Oh yeah, don't worry, that's being done, he's going to get quotes on parts as he gets them at trade price and I'll probably get him to do it anyway as he has his own garage and specialises in BM's. Stupid BMTroubleU's

+1, I'd be worried that if it's going above normal working temps, even if it's not by much, that you could end up with HG failure...which would be a disaster!

It seems odd to me that it would start having this trouble after the rad was replaced...oh well!

Well mine has been sitting idle for the last week and a half because my powerflex top mounts have yet to arrive from the UK. Absolute joke, the car is sitting there on stilts waiting....have to tax it now too!

I was meaning to ask you actually, have you ever had work done for them before? [...]

Not me personally to be honest. Asked about decent places to do the job you're looking for in Warsaw or nearby. The place I asked is Polish forum for one of Jap brands of cars. I also mentioned I heard about them guys (from the link), got the answer to search no further - as many of them users recommend them very much.

But I'll also ask them users to find out a price range for a job if you want. Just let me know what car, age, engine etc.

He thought it was the viscous fan first on Friday but now he reckons it was just an air lock in the system as it hasn't done anything since.

Anyone know where I can get powerfllex top mounts or similar in Dublin? Ordered a set from the UK 2 weeks ago which have yet to arrive...car is sitting idle in the drive waiting!

Murray motorsport in walkinstown or Discount tyres (i think) in Blanch should be able to get them for ya.

    That would be great! :D
If you could see if they can recommend anyone in the Warsaw area to change the timing chain on a 04 Accord CDTI. I think it's called a Lancuch in Polish?
Why the hell am I telling you what it's called in your own language :D

What do you do when you've a hankering for a drive, but you're not allowed to?

Fire up a 90" projector screen, steering wheel set-up and a driving sim. Lovely.....

After 6 months, the remains of the catalyst finally clog solid in the 300km after I fix the ignition issue. Oh well. Who's guessing the dead coil was blowtorching the catalyst clear? And fixing that problem finally allowed the remains to set solid. Last guy to touch might've only taken the debris out. Bugger.

And mystery fluid seems to be leaking from the gearbox area. But it's not gearbox oil. At least, I don't think it is.

It's not oil. It evapourates much too quickly and doesn't stain the ground. Engine oil Level's also in the normal bounds.
It's not coolant. The level seems fairly solid. It's just above the low mark - but I don't want to fill it any more because it does expand a lot.
It's not brake fluid, the level's fine too. Pedal response is fine.

I only spotted it after dropping something on getting out of the car and looking under it. I wouldn't have noticed it at all otherwise.

I have seen it before.... right after I had the gearbox oil done, right after I bought it. And then it never did it again. Never showed any evidence of it.

    Ain't car ownership fun?

Wanted to change my car. Day before buying a new one timing belt snaps on the old one.
Next day (or so) buy new car. Week later find out timing chain needs replacing.
Yes... they are fun indeed ;)

That might also be it.... doesn't smell anything like petrol though.

    Eyurk.....
At least I don't have to worry about timing chains on mine.

    What? Why?

    Air con condensation?

    It might well be.

If it was oil or coolant, it'd continue to leak after the car is stopped. Coolant especially is still under pressure. This stops soon after the car being shut down - to the point where what's dropping after the car stops is probably just the last of it making its way down to the bottom of the gearbox.

If it's hot oil or coolant, it's going to keep leaking and seeping. This stops when the engine does.

Deadly setup. My mate has it down to a tee but I couldn't get the hang of the stick shift. I did try it on a 700hp skyline though :P.

How stupid do you have to be. I know just by looking at the wet sand that if I walked out there I would get stuck nevermind driving in it.
