Anyone have any problems with transferring files onto the phone from a Windows 8 PC over USB? I can't create any folders and files will simply not transfer. Gets a bit frustrating. MTP is a load of bollox

Yep its an issue with the windows 8.1 update, my windows 8 and windows 7 machine work perfect. Still brings up the metro style app and shows what's on the phone but it won't open as normal, bit annoying but I've 3 machines so I can live with it.

I broke me earlier in the year (fell on tiles, gorilla grass is glass despite what they say and it SHATTERS!)

I bought the screen assembly on ebay. There are a couple of good videos on youtube on how to take the phone apart.

It's not difficult. I think the screen assembly (it is the glass and digitiser in one piece as most high end smartphone now bond them together) was about €70. Took about 20 minutes.
Any specific tools required. ? Any chance to a link of the one you bought?
Battery also terrible on it. Any remedies fir that?

    This was the screen:

    http://www.ebay.ie/itm/Replacement-Original-LCD-Display-Touch-Screen-LG-Google-Nexus-5-D820-D821-/191161118195?pt=UK_Replacement_Parts_Tools&hash=item2c82172df3

    This is the video:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OPuCmfhzgbg

He explains all the tools you need there. But basically all you need is a guitar pick (a fairly rigid one) to prise open the back case (it's held with clips and some glue) and some torx screwdrivers and philips (quite small can't remember what size but you can buy a pack in a hardware store for a few euro)

I' have had no issues with the battery on mine. In fact sometimes I'm amazed with it, it has often lasted 3 days with normal use. I think battery use is a very subjective thing tho and it largely depends on the apps you have installed (I don;t use facebook twitter or any social app for instance which polls for constant updates).

Overall it's a great phone. Lets see what the Nexus 6 brings. It is 5.9" as expected tho it will be too big for me personally. At that size it can;t fit in a pocket comfortably.

More importantly tho is Android L which looks promiosing. Smartphone hardware at the top end is beginning to plateau so the increments are going to be marginal from now on same as PC's. SO the difference will really be in the s/w and UI

Broke my nexus 5 screen. Any where to get it done? Was quoted 180e

If bought direct from Google, ring them and tell them the thing won't charge properly any more without USB cable being weighted down - happened both my N5 and N7. Refund or replacement there and then.

I bought N7 from Amazon. Same thing happened. Immediate refund as because it was through a 3rd party seller, that couldn't send out replacement. As I haven't returned it in time, they have subsequently recharged me but now that N9 is out I'll be returning it this weekend. The struggling to charge thing is quite common, so there shouldn't be too many issues.

Both purchased October last year, contacted them in late August and early September. I think you'll be surprised - Amazon were very accommodating once I found out how to request a return.

So was mine. Screen is cracked through my own fault. Charging buggered not my fault. If your N5 still charges properly, it's very easy to get it not to 😉

Trying to save you a few quid here. If you want to piss it up against a wall, do so by all means.

I would imagine your dodgy charging (sorry I didn't read through this whole post, is it on page 177 now!) is probably to do with the usb port coming loose from board it is mounted on.

Again this is a part you could fix when you have the phone cracked open. It might just be loose in the case and require a bit of glue (from dropping it, I had similar issue with the microphone on mine but it had just come loose from the fall). Or it might need a new part altogether (which you could also get on ebay I'm sure).

Or you could invest in a Qi wireless charger (which you can get for about €25)

Could be wrong but I think the battery is my problem. Needed to be charged 3-4 times per day. Ill look at what you suggested though

You could also replace the battery when you have it open (it's just held in with double sided tape)

At that point tho (new screen, battery, possibly usb port) you would have to question if it is worth it and a new one is a better option (assuming you can't get it fixed/replaced under warranty)

Very true. Really liked the phone this S2 is dirt compared. Ill have a look ti see what battery costs. Something to ponder while I wait for money to arrive in my acc before I buy the screen

Yes the Nexus 5 is a great phone and almost universally acclaimed as so

The new one tho (N6) will divide opinion. Great specs but the size is likely to be a deal breaker for most. As is the price. It's being quoted as $650 apparently. Last time (N5) the dollar to euro coversion for here was direct. So I guess that will be €650 then. No thanks.

N5 will be excellent for a few more years with software updates, the specs are still pretty much up there with the N6

Ye have looked at the N6 would love it but would have to have it in my hand first to see if I like it.
Don't think it suits a farmet though. I broke my N5 dosing calves against the crush aswell as dropping it. If I had of had a good cover on it the firsr time I dropoed it I wouldn't have broken it

Anyone know about the replacement process for the nexus 5? I bought the phone from the UK playstore at time of release so should be still in warranty. Phone fell into a small puddle for just a second and it stopped charging a while ago : (. I have checked and the water mark is still white rather then pink so not sure what to do! Absolute disaster

Having an issue with charging also. Cracked the screen on mine a while back and replaced it with a screen off ebay. All was fine with it until today when it went dead and it wouldn't charge. The area around the LED light is red hot to touch a few seconds after it is plugged in and when i try to power on when plugged in I can see the white light behind the screen but nothing appears on the screen itself

I've tried taking it apart to have a look but nothing obviously looked loose or damaged around the USB section. Would it be worth replacing the USB connector of just give up on it.

You could try it out with a wireless charger first? Cheap way of testing it out!

Yes, its still great value for a pretty decent phone, battery and camera let it down but otherwise it's a great value device. I'm pretty happy to stick with mine anyway, don't feel any great need to upgrade to the Nexus 6.

Still one of the best on the market, especially for the price.

Camera is okay, but not great. Battery is the same, the 5.0 update has made mine a good bit better, but still not amazing.

For the money its well worth it.
