Anyone else having an awesome day? This week will be a fun one me thinks :D.

Despite the pain in my hand, from timing myself in some essays ... it's all good!

Honest question people- do you people take salary into consideration for your courses/future job prospects?

Yes. WHY ISN'T THERE MORE APPRECIATION FOR ART??? :(

That would be like a hobby or part time. It's hard to make a living by crafting things and so on.

I envy you! I'd love to do cross-country, but can't find any youth friendly clubs for that in my area. My legs hate me, they don't enjoy the pains of running every second day

Now days I compete in martial arts. Congratulations "long legs" (had to stick a quote from my comparative text!).

I don't run for a club or anything I just asked my PE teacher if I could do the one day competition! Never ran cross country before in my life, thought I might as well do it this year for the craic! :D

Just a question has any started Sraith Pictuirs in HL? My teacher gave us our first today and our class nearly had a heart attack. I think Sraith Pictuirs are crazy and not needed. The one our teacher wrote for us was over 700 words! 700 words by 20 14000 words for a few marks in our oral?? She told us herself it was too long but since it only came in 3 years ago she has to be excessive. The commission think that we have this level of irish anyway I don't know how delusional they are but... Its crazy... Im doing 8hl subjects at the moment so at least it gives me an option but no wonder people are doing pass... They're trying to put people off the language and personally I love it as its part of our heritage but they are doing nothing to help it!

You're not expected by the SEC to have that level of Irish. Besides, you won't have time in your oral to rattle off 700 words for the picture story. Two sentences per picture, maybe three, is more than enough.

Yes you are expected to have that level of irish and no 2/3 sentences would not justify anything not even in pass.

Yes it would. It would get you high marks if your sentences are of a high standard.

700 words of complete bs irish and poor repetitive grammar is nothing compared to 2-3 sentences of top quality irish with varied grammar per picture.

I'd hate to be the examiner, constantly reading and hearing the same stuff. :p

The people who think quantity is usually better than quality are the ones who drop to ordinary irish.

Would anyone recommend dropping to OL irish and focusing on the 6 points subjects, i do 9 subjects right now and it's too much with Irish slowing me down

If you're particularly weak at one subject then it may be best to drop down and focus on your other eight!. I'm presuming you do HL maths? The time could be better utilised there if maths is one of your strengths as there are "bonus points" at stake. You'd still have two HL subjects as a back up if things go wrong on exam days!. Unless you want to be a primary school teacher you don't need Higher Level Irish, although the oral and listening components of the exam combined are worth 50 % keep in mind!. However,If you're struggling to manage and it's affecting your other subjects I'd advice you to drop down!.

Its extremely high quality our 700 words! So much so the examiner goes down to my teacher afterwards and quotes it back to her. Everyone in our school previously practically got a1s in the oral.

I'd say definitely drop to OL Irish so. It really is advisable to do a maximum of seven higher level subjects - I feel any more is unnecessary and a bit excessive.

How long does it take you to do one sraith? As in, how many minutes does it take you to rattle out the 700 words?

Learning a 700 word essay? I'm pretty sure the examiner would be able to tell you're reciting something, and turn that against you.

I see your teacher's logic though. I don't think she's telling you TO RECITE AND LEARN a giant essay, but to read it so you get a rough idea of the pictures. Then just re-call a few sentences for each picture from the essay instead of saying everything.

Conversation (?) holds the most marks in the oral I think, so I'd say if A1s were given out ... probably because of the incredible language skills people hold over there :D.

Applied maths is easy enough so far, and yeah i do physics. It's similar enough, especially mechanics if you are in that yet
