Went out for a 5 mile easy run. Got to 3km with slight pains in my chest, then got a severe pain that left me bent over unable to breath. It was only for an instant thankfully. Walked back to work and booked the doctor for Monday morning. Well freaked out at the moment!

Still have no idea what the pain was, which hasn't fully disappeared since Friday. Been to ShannonDoc, A&E and my GP and have no answers just a bunch of inflammatories that aren't helping. It's looking like a two week wait for echo and stress tests unless I go to Galway sometime this week. Who knows what would happen if I was trying to use the public service. They really don't take this too seriously here it seems. Doubts for the marathon setting in...

    All clear!

After much kerfuffle I managed to squeeze an appointment with a private cardiologist, bypassing some serious queues, they're tough men to get a hold of. Echo test was A1 and stress test didn't bring the pain back or show any problems.

So I'm still clueless on the pain but at least it isn't the ticker. Had a proper haggling session with the man, so now Eagle Lodge Cardiology have paid my DCM entry, well most of it!

Came home and superquinn gave me a 20 euro voucher which was duly spent on hooch.

Get drunk tonight, back to running tomorrow. Shamone.

Edit: Thanks for the kind words lately, some nice messages / PMs and worried family / mates really made this an eye opener for me.

    28/09/14

Tiptoed around, walked in places, generally to find out will this pain reappear. It didn't and was a nice run in the end.

    9.36km @ 6:18min/km avg.

    29/09/14

4 Miles easy, not easy enough though. Down as a rest day but wanted to bump up this week to 40+ miles.

    7.01km @ 5:55min/km avg.

    :)

    5 Mile Easy

Back to the plan with 5 easy miles.

    8km (ish) @ 6:05 (ish) min/km avg.

Battery for iPod Shuffle ordered which should fix this gammy watch once and for all. Very difficult to source the original Garmin battery for small money so I'm hoping this will sort it.

    Edit:
Month's End: 178km. A poor tally for September but I'm not complaining! :)

Whoo, good stuff Sean. I meant to say tell you that a few months after I started running I got a pain in my chest too, which frightened the sh1t out of me TBH. Got checked out with doc, had ECG and chat ect and doc put it down to the return to exercise and it probably just the body changing ie muscle development ect.

Not saying this is the case for you, but just that the reassurance of the doc was a good feeling for me. Hadn't had a reoccurrence of said pain thank God....

    1M WU + 5M @ MP + 1M WD

Too little time, too much to do. 1km warm up, into the bank to pay the bills the old school way and then 9.5km of "marathon pace" which ended up being 15-40 seconds faster than even 4hr MP. I think nearly 6 miles made up for the lack of quality runs lately. Too quick but back in the office now with time to shower. Enjoyed the run big time. 0.8km warm down.

    9.56km @ 5:20min/km avg (HMP?).

    3 Mile Recovery

Good super slow, watch the birds go by, jog. Watch has now rendered itself completely useless. There'll be reconstructive surgery happening tonight, fingers crossed I can salvage it.

    5.03km @ 6:39min/km avg.

Garmin Forerunner 110 - Battery Change

Bought a cheap replacement battery for an iPod Shuffle (2nd genertion) as the OEM one was impossible to find. (3.7V 200mAH PD3032). This is a rectangular battery but fits perfectly in the space of Garmin's coin battery.

As you can see mine was pretty fecked, full of condensation, display gone crazy:

    Square peg, round hole:
    46t3p1sl.jpg

Changing the battery is simple, undo the 6 screws, pull the ribbon for the screen, pull the socket for the main board, desolder the battery connections, solder in the new battery.

    * This was actually one of those rare occasions when you are able to put back together something you took apart. And it turns on, phew!

    ** Running will resume shortly.

    The Watch
Died in my race today, that's what I get for putting a cheapo Chinese battery in. Have a super battery on the way should sort it out.

    The Human Race 30KM
Woke up this morning at 3:50am to a group of scumf*cks roaring and shouting outside my house. Having a wee party for themselves under a tree just under my sons bedrooms. I'm still getting used to living in a housing estate / interacting with other humans so I scared the feck out of them in me jocks. ****. By the time everything settled down it was 5:30

Woke up at 9am wrecked, got the weetabix in and hit the road. Arrived at 9:45am and see they were still setting up the start/finish . No bag drop.

Finally got going at half 10, a good bit late. The start line has two lanes separated by a fence. I was surprised to see I was heading off in the wrong direction and had inadvertently joined the half marathon start. Hopped the fence and settled into a nice slow pace. No stress.

First 10K was nice and easy, plenty of water stops and bananas. Lots of people doing 10km and HM races so it was easy to get dragged into a race, but really trotted around and settled into Lap 2.

Upped the pace a little, but kept the breathing and HR sound. Not much craic this lap ran most of it alone. Plenty of liquid onboard, kept her handy.

An angel gave me some jelly babies starting Lap 3. I dropped my gel earlier when warming up so no Popeye moment for me. Water and half a banana down and was feeling confident. Decided pushing on for the last 10K would be a laugh. Boom! ****ing flew the last 10km at MP or better, finished very strongly. Passed lots in the last 5km too which was refreshing.

If I'm honest I emptied the tank in the last 10K didn't leave much out there.

Strong stuff though and a great confidence booster, so glad I moved up to the 30km. Got a great rub down, first time with a physio so he gave me the shpeel, had to take a business card. That pain is awesome though.

No sandwiches, no hot drinks, as they say in Limerick, noahnattin. Just more feckin bananas.

All in all a good honest days work and really good prep for 3 weeks time. I'm gonna miss the LSRs!

    30km @ 5:42min/km avg.

    That's right exactly at 4hr pace. :D:D
(I went against all good advice, sorry lads)

Well done Sean!! There was some strong gusts out there today and some hills we won't have to deal with in DCM. Great confidence booster! I went against the advice too.

Good man Sean, but you should listen to the advice you get :D:D

On a serious note though, well done on getting that done, finishing well is a huge boost for the remainder of the plan, just don't do anything silly now :)

Went over to a guy in a Craughwell 10 green top & asked hime if he was Sean - he said "No" and looked at me as if I'd 2 heads :o

Ha nice one Bulmers yea I said hello to him myself, I'd be the more unapproachable of the two so I understand the confusion :D

In a moment of rage I closed my 12 year old account. Whoops! Seems I missed quite the party.

So I'm back to finish out this thread as it's the only thing keeping me sane these days. Target 4:10:00, Sub 4 will be a dream come true.

If someone could post the YouTube video of "Funkadelic - Maggot Brain" I would greatly appreciate it. Not able to post a link with this new account, maybe a friendly mod could help me out on that...

Hope you're doing better, I find running the greatest stress reliever of all.

Cheers lads, much appreciated. Removed the drama, it's off the chest now. Let the running resume.

    16/10/14
    4 Mile + 6x100m strides

Done and done. 4.34 miles at easy pace. Strides were okay but a bit inconsistent.

    19/10/14
    8 Mile LSR

No watch so had to kind of guess my way about. Did the usual route backwards to include 4 or 5 really long and straight drags, just to get in the mood. Tagged on a few extra loops and smaller drags to get around in 9.65 miles (15.5km). Final LSR of 2014 complete!

Thought I nearly wouldn't run at all earlier, when driving home out leaps a large feckin deer straight across my path. I was at a fair lick but managed to get the anchors down, thankfully I barely tipped her. ( I literally stopped and she fell into the car, don't panic out there). The bastard would have come straight through the windscreen at me. Went to head off again and couldn't find the clutch, I'd hit it so hard I bent it into the bulkhead. Oh Dear! :D

Roll on Monday week, with my limbs intact I hope!

Jasus, I send you out to do 9 miles and you nearly kill a goat or a dear or something like that :D:D

I won't be sending you for a pint of milk :D:D

Take her handy now, hard work done, but proper taper just as important... :)

It wasn't an old biddy I can assure you of that! There'll be plenty more taper capers where that came from :D

3.1 miles (5km) at recovery pace. Out in the wind and rain doing everything in my power not to bate on home. Around 11min/mile (6:42/km). Legs feel great now.

New Garmin 220 finally arrived and it is definitely twice as good as the 110. (See what I did there?).

Toenails are cut and FINALLY the 7 day countdown begins. :D

Like many I have been trying to fight a cold, overdosing myself on lemsip didn't prevent it getting to my chest. Can't see myself being 100% on the day unfortunately, but that won't stop me running. Ran a mile and a half yesterday to at least do something.

The boards plan was 532 miles in total, and I managed 406 of them just over 75%. Thought it was worse than that to be honest.

Fingers crossed this cough is gone come Monday, either way I'm going to have a bit of craic and going to lap up the atmosphere.
