2 car trains MAY call at Portarlington from time to time. 2600 or 2800 class DMU's covering reliefs or failures ex Limerick or Galway / Westport services. It has happened several times before.

26/8s on a heuston service in this day and age? doubt it myself. plenty of ICRS for heuston services surely?

I'm very highly educated. I know words, i have the best words, nobody has better words then me.

fair enough, i just thought the times it happened were a long long time back, and just asked is all, i won't bother you again, sorry

Apologies if I came across a bit harsh. It wasn't intended as such.

You do see it from time to time, especially with Limerick - Limerick Jct. services being extended at short notice. Either due to late or full services ex Cork. Also at times if the ICR has failed in the West of Ireland, the 2800 off the WRC has been robbed. Of course not the comfort of an ICR but a train is better than no train. A 2600 even once worked from Killarney to Heuston after a failure!

    Morning all,

this week Railtours Ireland are operating the "Emerald Isle Express" tour, chartering a train from the Railway Preservation Society of Ireland with GM 084 at the helm. These things happen at days out like that,it's always going to be difficult to get the perfect shot unless you're willing to go off the beaten track, which I'm not. The videos were taken on my phone and were spur of the moment, not planned(much like the whole day!).

    Sorry,forgot my Lord Lucan namebadge!:P

On a serious note, these things happen on days like that. I'm not looking for the perfect shot, there's guys out there with a much better eye and much better equipment than i have. I used to do the whole "On your marks, get set,go" malarky as soon as the train pulled on to the platform and the race to get position. Now i couldn't be bothered,i just enjoy the sights and sounds and take a few pics for my own benefit.

Fair play to everyone at Downpatrick, they really went out of their way to cater for enthusiasts. Whilst it's not a mainline with day to day operations it's still a live railway so their accomodation of requests and access to the permanent way for pics was much appreciated.

Apologies Victor, didn't mean to drag it off topic.:o

Sadly I wasn't off at Downpatrick asking for film star's autographs or wielding crowbars, instead making do with a few miserly loco snaps around the Dublin area and photos taken today during a rare visit to the Broadstone, head office of the MGWR. It was open to tours as part of the Open House weekend. The hallway in the photo is the one which is behind the front doorway; the dark corridor is where the public booking office was.

So is the West Clare Railway the mystery purchaser of MkIIIs referred to in another thread? They will look great behind "Slieve Callan" - if the sea air doesn't destroy them first.

No, they just got 3 Mk3s. The mystery buyer has around 6-7 standards plus EGV 7601 that will need a full refit. There is a youtube clip of the rake being hauled out of Northwall by 077 with DVT 6105 at the rear. That's the rake being bought minus the DVT, 6401 and the other standard that went to West Clare.

Broadstone is tiny inside. Hard to believe that was a city terminus for a railway with hundreds of miles of lines.

It is the building itself going to be the Luas station?

It will be in a cutting(to facilitate buses accessing the depot via a bridge) just outside the station.
