Interesting to see that there are still 2600s in the Commuter livery and even one in the IC livery with no UIC numbers yet. The 28s are still hanging in there, Irish Rail must have stopped cutting off gangways and painting for the time being.

2610 + 2613 is the last 2600 unit in Commuter livery (with the exception of stored 2609).

Feeling the heat! Thermit weld in the Twickenham area in S London on Thursday night, I was out scoping a drainage fix, lots of re-railing going on.

It's pretty embarrassing watching this shot so well by a German company and comparing it to the bilge that RTE pump out :(

    Great watch!

B*ll*cks quite frankly. RTE have made some excellent series about the railways.

Ok, I may have jumped a little heavily on the RTE bashing bandwagon, but I don't remember seeing anything from them that comes close to this :(

    Recommendations would be appreciated :)

And I'm sorry, my post was a bit OTT.

"Ironing the Land" was a series on RTE about the building of the railways.

The most recent Waterways series had some lovely shots of the Dublin Sligo line beside the Royal canal.

Here are two pretty good documentaries about the railways in Ireland by RTÉ during the Supertrain era.

Not sure if this is the right place to put this. Apologies if not. I'm no photographer but thought the Fintown railway was worthy of a post.

The pics from Oranmore are interesting in that they show a fairly significant grade change between the car park and track level which makes me wonder if going under the tracks will be feasible in the event that a 2nd platform goes in rather than the significantly expensive overbridge solution.

Also during the Bank Holiday weekend I visited the nearby Limetree Airfield, which were hosting the Flying in Ireland Magazine & NMAI Annual Fly In event. The highlight of the weekend was on the Sunday afternoon when one of the last remaining Irish Coastguard Sikorsky S-61 helicopter's (EI-SAR) paid a visit to the airfield.

    Yes...very little.:D

It's an interesting place alright, there's also the original Shanganagh Jct on the far side of the railway, basically the same identical formation but was abandoned before 1920 due to see erosion, but it is still very traceable from aerial images.

The very line much closer to the coast, an old bridge at the end of the shanganagh park. the old trackbed is covered by thick thorny bushes...

There was no junction at Shanganagh before 1915. The single line from the Killiney direction continued beside the pair from Shankill (on the Harcourt Street line) into Bray.

Edit: There was one from 1861 to 1877 - should have remembered that! The three line arrangement lasted from 1877 to 1915 when the deviation opened.
