The new DOG is an improvement anyway. It could be more in the corner though.

Just heard the continuity before the big bang theory. It is awful. Some gob****e yapping on in an exaggerated north dublin accent.

It's Damo from Damo and Ivor. The second series starts tonight.

Hope it's only for tonight so. It would put me off watching that show too.

I'm sure at some point they will change the channel name on terrestrial.

Looks weird having RTÉ One and RTÉ2 beside each other. They should be ONE and TWO or 1 and 2, not a mixture.

The logo could be more in the corner and it is a little too bright still. Hopefully they fix that.

No channel name change yet on UPC either.

    Continuity announcer is an embarrassment.

Many people will think this is the permanent new CA. I didn't know what it was about until reading the posts here.

I think you will find he is permanent member of staff. This is RTÉ new policy to have more natural Irish accents to avoid the continued use of the D4 accent.

Their new line up of Continuity Announcers included accents from the regions such as Cork City, Tuam, The Midlands, Wexford, Waterford City, Limerick City and a general Northern Irish accent.

I am not sure if his accent is what's annoying people, it's the speaking style / fact that it's done "in character" that's off putting.

The RTE2 Twitter account shows a picture of 1 of the lads from Damo & Ivor in the presentation suite sounds like his voice tonight . Sorry tried to paste the picture but failed

Newsfeed is a complete waste of taxpayers money and not needed. As mentioned a total copy from BBC3. Give it a few years and we probably go back to RTE Two.

http://www.rte.ie/tv/homeandaway/ - pictures on this are years out of date! Maybe a re-launch is needed.

Christ our tv stations are becoming a real race to the bottom in terms of content. The Absolute thrash being advertised with this rebrand and as for the bumpers and idents.....Good god

Why do they have the old RTÉ TWO DOG back on screen and why is the TRTÉ DOG in the 4:3 safe zone and bigger than the main channel DOG and also in full colour?

I mean, are they even trying with this new look or what?

Well this is almost certain. Every station rebrands and a standard change to appear new and fresh (same goes for BBC and Sky etc) is to change 1 to ONE and back every few years.

1 hasn't been around since this

A numeral 1 should be their next look, to match the 2 of RTÉ2. Perhaps in a more serious, formal looking font to signify the status of the main channel over the "yoof" orientated, populist second channel?

I actually like the new logo, nice and small but the HD stuck on to the top seems a bit out of place.

BBC changed from numerals to letters for the first time in 1997 and have never changed back. Sky One/1 is the only real example of going back and forth until now (Sky Channel from 1984-1990, Sky One from 1990-97, Sky 1 1997-8, Sky One again from 1998-2008, then Sky 1 again since 2008).

RTÉ2's problem is that they keep thinking a name change will boost viewership (sure why not, didn't it work in 1988, 1997, and 2004) when really its the programmes that matter.

It work in 1988 and they maintained their audience in 1997, the 2004 rebrand didn't work at all, audience drop significantly in the last 10 years. As you say programming is more important, I wonder how much of this type of Brash programming can last, its programming is far too busy Jumping up and down trying to get people to notice it.

    Also BBC 2/TWO

Where they trying to target older viewers wirh the 2004 rebrand ? I recall their 7-9pm schedule having alot of wildlife programs and vintage Mike Murphy shows after that relaunch.

Wildlife and History docs go back as far as 2001 when they pretty much gave up the idea of chasing a "yoof" audience. It would work if RTÉ had commissioned some of their own programming to support their endless history docs on Nazis and WW2. Even repeats of Irish programming. The same goes for now, they have one show commissioned for early evening and that is a fashion show #trending

Sky EPG changed from RTE TWO HD to RTE2 HD.

UPC have followed Sky in changing to RTE2 and RTE2 HD, late last week

Any sign of Saorview changing from RTE Two?

Still RTÉ Two I'm afraid. Had to retune a TV earlier and noticed it is still saying Two.

Gas show and I bet they get a very good viewership everytime its on ... My heart sinks when I look at RTÉ2 listing ... my god gone are the days of being a very good sports broadcaster - F1, Premier League etc.

Gone are the days of having the budget to pay for them. Things are a bit different now especially with Setanta on the scene also bidding.
