Why was there no mention of the new us shows like Gotham today? A very disappointing "relaunch" i expect 99% of these new shows will go down a black hole with the movie show and next weeks news.

Edited thread title as relaunch is no longer "possible" but definitely happening

Just watched the promo - seems to be 90% reality TV. Oh no.

Meanwhile in terms of the on-air identity, or what we see of it, while the numeral "2" is coming to the fore, it appears the channel's colour scheme will stay predominantly green as it has been since 2004. Green Room 3?

I was a bit disappointed not to see it mentioned, I read it a while back they got it, think it means they will have it in Jan which means Netflix will be ahead of them, not a good move.

Terrible having foul language in a promo - all they need now is Green in The D.O.G. and sure we then have BBC3 ROI.

Why don't they move the afternoon screening of Home & away & Neighobours over to RTE 2 ?

Why don't they move the afternoon screening of Home & away & Neighobours over to RTE 2 ?

Because they have to get the minister's permission to change children's programming. The last minister refused to make a decision after 15 months while the new minister waits for RTÉ to make an update proposal and they have to wait for him to make a decision which he might not make.

I don't think they would need his permission for that, They are showing iCarly at around 2pm now which is aimed at teenagers and used to be on at 5pm a year or two ago.

I'd say iCarly is a tween comedy aimed at 10 -15 year olds. It's the law any major changes to channel schedules must go to the Minister, RTÉ can't just put Two Tube type programmes during RTÉjr/TRTÉ hours, I don't know how they are getting away with moving trte hours into rtejr hours.

Does the T in TRTE stand for teen ?

No worse tween! TRTÉ is Aimed a 8 to 12 year olds.

    RTÉjr = cbeeies
    TRTÉ = cbbc

TRTE is a very crap name and weak brand imo.

I think the real focus should be to get the soaps as close to possible with the Australian screenings.

No sign of new DOG yet this morning.

Presumably will debut at 5:30pm when children's programming ends.

Sky EPG changed from RTE TWO HD to RTE2 HD.

Terrible move IMO, leaves the late summary on RTE One - which can often air well after midnight - as the only straight news bulletin on Irish TV after 9:30pm. the 6:50pm sports update during Six One will now be the only sports news on RTE on a weekday.

DOG changed now, the HD version has a fairly small HD above the logo which is welcome. No sign of the new idents yet but a trailer in the new style has aired on RTE One.

AFAIK RTÉ News Now continues to have a late night news at 11.

Some day RTÉ 2 will get a set of intertitles for individual programmes rather than just RTÉ 2 between ad breaks. If you don't need to say what the show is between ad breaks you do not need a DOG/BUG.

Live? While not a first (they have produced and aired RTE News on Two on days that for scheduling reasons - live sport chiefly - that RTE Two has been unable to do so) it would be a new development for them to air a live news bulettin exclusively on a regular basis.

It would mean that those viewers under 35 who have an interest in late news will have to migrate to Ireland Live at 10 on UTV Ireland as their main late night Irish news if they miss RTE's 9 O'Clock News bulletin on RTE One.

If they are not interested in Irish news they could see either Sky, BBC or ITV News as an alternative if they have access to them on their television at home.

Also, I have seen the ad for Damo & Ivor with the new RTE 2 logo. It does look very small when I looked at the ad. The endboard showing the time of the programme is a big improvement from what they had the last time. I had a brief look at RTE 2 HD when Jedward were on Two Tube and it's logo looks nice and wedged up in the right hand corner of the screen.

The new RTE 2 ident is quite good. I was tired of the old indents from it's SD days.

  • Moderators, Technology & Internet Moderators Posts: 12,312 Mod ✭✭✭✭icdg

Newsfeed (airing 6 minutes late!) an almost exact copy of BBC Three's 60 Seconds, in green instead of purple of course.

The ident has **way** too much going on it (including an old P&T Telephone box in 1980s Telecom Eireann livery!). And I sincerely hope the Andy Quirke-in-character-as-Damo CA is only for tonight.

At 7pm the DOG on HD moved to the unorthodox position of centre top and reduced massively in size, while SD lost its DOG entirely!

Is anyone's RTE2 logo stuck in the middle of the screen or is that the new thing now. I'm on the HD channel on Sky.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,886 ✭✭✭dublinman1990

Wth, The RTE 2 logo on Saorview is now mircoscopic and in the middle of the screen.

There is gremlins in the system on the first day already. :D

I think it is a mistake.

And its not part of News Now

I just seen the logo go off now.

EDIT: It is now back on again as it normally is.

DOG is fixed now on both SD and HD.

The trailer style is quite interesting. Voice-overs are reduced mostly to a line at the end of the trailer, with various captions being used during it - although one was in the traditional style.

The new DOG is an improvement anyway. It could be more in the corner though.

Just heard the continuity before the big bang theory. It is awful. Some gob****e yapping on in an exaggerated north dublin accent.
