And they will be followed next week by those who forgot to enter after training for months to run it for charity for a worthwhile cause and are now looking for a number.

Oktoberfest on a school night :(:o. Not the best prep for DCM

This could also go in the rave thread

Morning run this morning to find that they have finally done something with the historic Belfield track (the only Irish track to still hold a WR). A Carpark  :mad:

Doubled with the fact that when email to query the progress of the "task force" securing funds for new track I have been met with deafening silence over the past few months

Proper Oktoberfest, or one which only has Erdinger?

    Students!

For 4 months, while the college was closed, I have been able to run near my home without anything being thrown at me from a passing car. Not once

Summer's over and they're back a week and suddenly it happens again. Oh but it's pure coincidence of course! Time to replace my running gear with a suit of armory again!

    Little **** pack of **** ***** ***** ****

Public transport in Dublin, and car culture. It's grand if you live on one of the two LUAS lines or on the DART, but other than that you have to rely on Dublin Bus, where the frequency of service varies wildly between routes. Fortunately my route is very frequent, but when needing to connect with another bus it usually involves a lot of waiting time in between.

The fact there is no rail or light rail service that links the airport to the city. A few weeks ago I was stuck on the 16 bus at peak hour, heading to their airport, for about 45 minutes and hadn't even come close to reaching Santry. Had I not jumped out at the right place and hopped in a taxi I would have missed my flight.

Public transport here is just so disjointed and is not at all integrated. The fact that Connolly and Hesuton stations do not link up is crazy. It is also extortionately expensive, for what you get in return

Compare this to what you get in most European countries. You would not need a car living in many of them. Switzerland was an eye opener, but Austria, Netherlands and many more are not far behind.

What's annoying is when you complain to somebody about how much we are selling ourselves short here in this regard, people just say "get a car. drive". Yeh that's what we need, more cars clogging up our narrow city streets, causing complete havoc for the buses at rush hour!

The worst thing we ever did (something most of the world did unfortunately) was dig up our extensive tram network back in the 50s. Had we not gotten so over-excited about the novelty of automobiles and actually thought about the long term, we could now have a fantastic tram network like they have in Melbourne (one of the few places not to dig up their historic tram lines) and there would have been no need to build the LUAS lines to begin with.

    Long rant!

^ Agree with all of that, public transport is the absolute worst thing about being back home. London conditions you to think that 5 minutes is a long wait and 10 minutes is completely unacceptable :pac:

I missed a subway in Moscow by about 2 seconds. I sat there wondering how long I'd have to wait until the next one. No fear. 75 seconds!!

Granted London and Moscow have much larger populations, but most cities in central Europe which have the same population as us are head and shoulders above us when it comes to public transport.

Newcastle is about the same size as Cork city and suburbs. It manages a metro (trains about every 10 minutes) just fine...

Running and triathlon articles which display extremely irresponsible training and racing behaviour. Saw this linked on Twitter this morning - hospitalised for glandular fever in June, racing again in early August and Ironman in October? Bike crash in that August race would have probably burst his spleen which would still be swollen from the viral infection... not to mention the high risks of chronic fatigue or post-viral issues caused by such a long race not a particularly long time afterwards.

    ****ing park rangers
"Hi, we have arranged all our permissions and insurances, we are going to have a race with x many people at this time, on this date, and would like to use this area of the park. We will need exclusive use because of the numbers. Is that okay with you?"
"Yeah sure it will be grand, I'll call back in a couple of days to confirm"
They don't call back. One week later -
"hi, us again, we are still planning to use this area of the park, at this time, on this date, and need to know that it is free. Can you confirm?"
"Should be grand. I'll confirm in a couple of days."

"Okay,we've measured a course for next week, are sending out maps, and are ready to go. Okay?"
    "Sure, yeah."
One day before the race -
    "Right, are we set?"
"oh, so that field... yeah, there's going to be a football match there tomorrow. That's not a problem is it?"

What ya driving and what's wrong??

Rant. The fear of doing anything out of the ordinary for fear of getting injured so close to DCM. - Work event, footgolf. Kicking a flipping football into a big hole and I said no for fear of rolling over on my ankle or something... I played junior soccer for nearly 20 years with no major injuries FFS :D

Ha ha thanks for the offer Sean!!! I can just imagine ya arriving in McGrattans totally fecked after running a super marathon and me ready with your toolbox to get working:D.
Audi A4. It's looking pretty much like a write-off. The emissions were so high the machine in the NCT centre couldn't read them as they were off the scale. It smoked out the NCT centre almost causing catastrophe to the poor guys working there.
Looks like I'll be car shopping next week:(
Or maybe with all this high mileage I'll be doing for the winter I can just run everywhere and save myself a lot of dosh!
