I think if you are taking comments that where made in 1969 to heart, you need to chill.

learn your history and then come back and tell me to chill. he was a hateful man and supposedly a reverent. thats a cantroduction right there spreading hate. As a man with great influence in nothern Ireland that is the one thing he should have been trying too prevent not escalate. 1969 was the height of the troubles incase you didnt no.

He was a great performer, he inspired big liam neeson to get into acting.

And inspired Ronan Keating too. Hish voish shounds like he got shinging leshons from Ian Paishley.

I'm actually surprised he's dead. I thought he'd live forever on hate alone and end up like one of those lads on Futurama with his head in a jar barking at everyone.

He looked like a walking, talking heart attack all through his life. I'm surprised he lived so long.

Lol, look at you being better than everyone else.
Hah, exactly. Totally all it is.

I'm not celebrating or full of glee or filled with hate - and I certainly have no issue with unionists who are normal people, and I detest the IRA... I'm only disputing the bollocks about him being an ok fella when he was anything but.

People seem to feel obliged to say such nonsense in order to show how distanced they are from republicanism, but it's not necessary. All I can conclude is that they're not aware of the extent of his bigotry - which would have been towards them if they were living in the North.

No doubt they're the same people who are obsessed with typing "shinnerbot " and going on about how the other side were as bad for bigotry, when even Kevin Myers would flatly disagree.

My dad doesn't speak ill of many people, but bringing up this guy's name in his company...

Horrible ***** back in the day, mellowed a lot as he got older and definitely did contribute to the peace process, and even managed to drag others with him, probably because he was such a formidable figure and personality.

Sad part about it is, the nasty aspect of the Unionists seem to be making their way to the fore in his political absence..

Elect a clown... Expect a circus

What's your obsession with bringing up Dublin and Dubliners? Is it cos you see us all as UK loving West Brits? Only ignorance here is yours.

Ian Paisley was the biggest(!!!!!!) bigot this island has ever known. He caused untold misery to a large section of the N.I population for years and years with his brand of rotten bigotry.

May he roast in hell !!!!

A complete and utter bigot....people should never forget the complete and utter misery he caused through rising blood....it was not 20 years ago..he gave political rising to loyalist paramilitaries to cause murder so he could walk about garvahy road laughing in the face of innocent who were murdered...as for causing peace....people would do well to remember he was against the GFA....Irish politicians would do well to remember his very bitter anti Irish stance..

Only one way he is going and its not up. :-D

A very interesting politician for an international observer to.study / make report on nonetheless...though..it's unforgivable some what misery he caused

I reckon the forthcoming Scottish Vote for independence and the break up of the United Kingdom might have been too much for big Ian.

While I do genuinely extend condolences too his family and hope he rests in peace. I can't help think that he wasted his life consumed with extreme religious and political ideas. He incited and preached hatred based on religion and encouraged others to do the same. I think that will be his legacy.

Undoubtedly one of the greatest Irish failures...

My granny from Fermanagh who lived with me growing up was one of those ladies who never cursed but the mere mention of Mr Paisely would change that. I grew up absolutely hating that man but respect where is it due. He changed his whole life philosophy pretty much to ensure peace so he deserves to be remembered for that.

Actually he was very successful at what he did, a huge amount of the anti Catholic murder and anti-Catholic bigotry and hatred in the six counties was Paisley influced and inspired.

Do I have to say Rip now so as to look like I'm not a hardcore republican that's still caught up in the past and show everyone that I'm a modern Irish guy that likes everyone. Or can I just maintain those values whilst also saying that he was a disgusting wanker of an individual? I like the second one.

he is in for a surprise when when he finds out that the taigs are allowed in to heaven,he will have to give out ST Peter, like the old joke about the new Soul being shown around Heaven ,full of light and laughter except for one corner where there was a huge wall ,the new soul was warned to be very quite near that wall as behind it were the Ulster Protestants and they were under the impression they had all Heaven to themselves

He changed nothing about his views, when his power was felt slipping away he tried a double act, but too many of us knew the real Ian all too well. The "chuckle brothers" were a contemptible blood soaked pair.

If heaven does exist, you can be sure he won't be finding out who is and isn't there.

He was a man for his time; say what you like about him, he made the Peace Process possible.

What I can't understand is that back in the 90's he was all "No, no, no, no, no!" and then one day he changed his tune to "Yeah, ok." Totally inexplicable. Guess we'll have to wait for the release of the state papers in 30 or so years.

    RIP.

Was thinking of his legacy. Time was ticking on.

If only Paisley's hatred for Catholics had been driven by anti-theism, he'd have been an AH poster boy then, that's for sure.
