I propose a march. He'd have liked that.

It won't affect the Unionist Party much as they still have ultra hardcore Unionists left.

I wonder will the usual coffin followers on here be mourning his death?, or "deeply saddened" as when a z list celeb kicks the bucket.

I'd say it will be mostly a mix of decent people paying respects regardless of their opinion and a load of keyboard warriors starting off an online war of words.

How does one become a 'coffin follower'?

    Especially one over the interwebz?

He was a man for his time; say what you like about him, he made the Peace Process possible.

What I can't understand is that back in the 90's he was all "No, no, no, no, no!" and then one day he changed his tune to "Yeah, ok." Totally inexplicable. Guess we'll have to wait for the release of the state papers in 30 or so years.

    RIP.

Off to hell with him. Pig of a man

The cause of much of the hatred in NI. An absolute snake of a man.

Thankfully in latter years he supported the the peace process so for that I say RIP

    He's fine.

He's coming round for some tinnies later on.

I'll not bother with any insincere homilies about him 'making the peace process possible' when a peace process wouldn't have been required in the first place if not for him and others of his ilk.

    Paisley went to heaven.

When he got there he knocked long and hard on the door.
St.Peter came out and asked his name.

"YOU DON'T KNOW MY NAME ? I'M THE REV. IAN PAISLEY HE ROARED AT ST. PETER".

St.Peter looked at his list and could not find his name. Sorry say's St.Peter you're not on the list.

"WHAT DO YOU MEAN I'M NOT ON THE LIST??? DO YOU NOT KNOW WHO I AM???" screeches Paisley in terror.

As a matter of fact I do said St. Peter, but your name is not on the list.

"THAT'S NOT GOOD ENOUGH I'M A VERY IMPORTANT PERSON MY NAME SHOULD BE ON THE LIST" screamed Paisley.

St. Peter tries to explain that its not easy to get into heaven, and that you have to be a Catholic.
When Paisley hears this he starts to complain, so St. Peter says that had he been good to Catholics that he might have some chance.

"WELL" roared Paisley, "I'LL HAVE YOU KNOW THAT I HAVE BEEN VERY GOOD TO CATHOLICS. WHY ONLY 2 WEEKS AGO I MET A YOUNG GIRL WHO HAD MADE HER COMMUNION AND I GAVE HER A POUND. AND 2 WEEKS BEFORE I MET A YOUNG BOY WHO HAD MADE HIS COMMUNION AND I HAVE HIM A POUND, NOW WHAT DO YOU SAY TO THAT MR. ST. PETER ???".

St. Peter took a few notes on what he said. He told Paisley to wait and that he would have to go and talk to GOD and get some advice.

About ten minutes later St. Peter comes out and says to Paisley. "HERES YOUR TWO POUNDS BACK, NOW **** OFF".

A few years ago I'd probably be celebrating but now I feel a bit sad. In fairness to the man it takes courage to go in to government with nationalists after a lifetime of bitter opposition.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,140 ✭✭✭✭TheDoc

    Well this won't go well.

But his passing can't gloss over his destructive demeanour in the North and for a long time stoked the fires of division and troubles.

A political "leader" who had no political views and used religious fanatism as the driving force in his actions.
