completely inaccurate. it has nothing at all to do with world rankings.

Playoffs begin with the top 125 players from the PGA tour season over the last 39 weeks.

    I'm Confused!

    That's exactly what he said

Playoffs begin with the top 125 players from the PGA tour season over the last 39 weeks. Loads of players in the world top 125 do not even play on the PGA tour, so they cannot compete.

Most obvious example being our own Shane Lowry

Ehhhhh.... perhaps try reading what I wrote :D

My point is that the Play-offs start with the top 125 players in the world assessed by their performance throughout the current entire PGA season

I decided to have a look at the OWGR website to see the Strength of Field rating for the various events that have taken place so far this year.

The Strength of Field for each event is determined by using the World Rating and Home Tour Rating. The World Rating is based on the number of Top-200 World Ranked players competing in the event and a value is allocated to the position within the Top 200. The Home Tour Rating is based on the number of Top-30 Ranked players using each tours end of year
final ranking with a value allocated to the position within the Top 30 Ranked players.

Looking purely at World Rating values, the top ten events this year are as follows:

    Event World Rating
    143rd OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP 828
    96th PGA CHAMPIONSHIP 819
    World Golf Championships-Bridgestone Invitational 730
    U.S. OPEN 720
    THE PLAYERS Championship 704
    World Golf Championships-Cadillac Championship 700
    MASTERS TOURNAMENT 699
    The Barclays 679
World Golf Championships-Accenture Match Play Championship 634
the Memorial Tournament presented by Nationwide Insurance 496

The rating for this week's event is not currently shown on the website, but it should be fairly similar to last week's. It can be seen from the above that the Barclays ranks lower than all the majors, the Players and two of the three WGC events. The last two play off events will have lower rating values because of the smaller fields.

yea, I seen what you wrote. but you are confusing things by mentioning the word "World"

it has nothing to do with "World", only PGA tour card holders.

FFS... it's the top 125 golfers on the PGA Tour who come from all over the World!! Again... clear in my initial post.

Very true. What an awful time for a shot like that. He just needed to hit the green to more or less guarantee a playoff, at least.

Mad, they don't even shower or change clothes after the final round, straight onto the plane and away.

Well they have a day less to prepare this week so we can forgive them. Really enjoyable viewing yesterday, can't wait for this weekend.

On red button if you have Sky Box - I hate UPC more and more by the day.
The new box is not very new.

Cheers FdP - found a stream for the golf channel who are showing live coverage. Sky can't blame the host broadcasters for this one.

Thanks. I had been trying the red button on all the sports channels, but nothing was coming up. I've got it now. I guess I wasn't holding the red button down for long enough.

Jason Day limping badly with a bad back... about to withdraw. Been a bad year injury wise for him.

Sergio hit a hard lob wedge 160 metres into the hole on the 7th hole for eagle  He was downwind but still, and he definitely said metres rather than yards
