    any idea on August price?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,745 ✭✭✭whitebriar

I see AIB are predicting a rise in milk price for the first half of nxt yr in their latest agricultural newsletter. I hope their right, can't say I'd be over optimistic with their track record of market forecasts!
Well a move from 28 to 31 probably would be a rise by then...

would dropping super levy now not make things worse by flooding the market with product?

Era McGuinness loves her photo being in the paper. Remember when the presidency was coming up she was in the journal left right and centre!!!

They're not going to pay for intervention on one hand, and allow for a free-for-all on the other.

That said if Big Phil, gets the new job, god only knows what could happen.

Angela isn't going to tell claud to cut a cheque to the eu for superlevy on the first of April that's what will decide whether it will be dropped or not.

Glanbia technically holding August price at 35cpl inc vat by using their price stability fund to compensate for a 2c cut they've imposed

Does that only apply to those of us who signed the contract. I thought it was one of the carrots.

Not In glanbia put personally would prefer for such funds to be used for when things are maybe worse for a sustained period. If next spring has a poor price that's when I'd like to see it supported not when current solids would give a good top up to base price which while dropping isn't v bad yet

Indeed...GII would rather spend it now when milk supply is low..cost them less
    Quite clever of them

Well its five million. It will be five million whenever they spend it so cant agree with that.

Sad to see them dropping it so quickly though seen as how reluctantly they rose it last year.

    Very good point

Not in glanbia, but what is this fund? They give 2c/l out if it while price is down, and when price is good you pay it back?

Aye but they spend less if there's less milk, whilst the remainder stays in their coffers gathering interest n'est pas?

    Dont know really.

Cant help feel they kind of shot themselves in the foot with this one.

If they had said nothing about this fund and just held price at 35 it would of been much more palatable to farmers.

I notice over the years that a lot of the initiatives taken by co-op's are not road tested on farm. This 2c would be much more beneficial to farmers if paid next year when milk price is expected to be lower, not this year when profits will be higher and more tax to be paid. The same goes for the DG peak management proposals { scrapped, eventually when applied to farm situations} . The super levy payment scheme by DG will in time be seen to be more beneficial to the co-op than the milk suppliers. Surely a farmer board member could impose the proposals on his own farm situation and see the flaws in schemes proposed.

Doesn't cost them less, it's your money, stopped earlier in the year

Talking to a board member of DG this morning said probably 33 cent for Aug but won't know for sure till the 17th. Also said we won't be in 30's in the spring

What is DG superlevey scheme. Read ifj feck all niw

"The proposed scheme will operate with milk suppliers paying 15 cent of total super levy penalty of 28.65 c/l by April 2015, with the balance being collected in ten equal instalments between May and September in the years 2015 and 2016. This scheme is optional and suppliers will need to sign up to avail of the facility. As always, Dairygold will pay the super levy payment in full on behalf of its milk suppliers to the Department of Agriculture when it falls due."

Is there some catch? or is it just the Co-op genuinely trying to help out its suppliers?
