Some nicknames that spring to mind:

    -Slab

    -The Bishop

    -The General

    I'm dead serious!

I never heard of the last one but he sounds menacing in a very explanatory way. That or a bit soft and trying too hard.

    Biffo is another good one.

I grew up with a fella called "Farto Cannon", this would've been the coolest Sunday world headliner ever, no matter what way they used it !

The general was such a good film. I still can't wrap my head around his relationship with his wife and her sister

Garda: So Martin, which sister were you riding last night?
    Cahill: Yours!

    The Boxer.

    Wobbly Boots.

He sounds like some character off that Wanderly Wagon thing.
the was lad called Jimmy "the smell" although I think that was his real name rather than a nickname

    can't find a link though

Nearly certain he was a traveler out Wesht who held the record for either most driving offences or the longest ban off the roads, or maybe both! Think he copped something like a 50 year ban or something?

Think he was more a gobsh'ite than a criminal mastermind.

The NYC Italian Americans in 2014 have cooler names, for eg Vincenzo 'Vinny Gorgeous' Basciano. (guy ran a hair salon in Queens for his front)

Matteo 'Matt the Cat' Lucchese (grandson of Gaetano 'Tommy Brown' who gave his surname to one of the 5 NY crime families)

Giovanni 'John the Zip' Stanfa. (born in Sicily, they're called zips or greasers in the modern American mob)

    Carmine 'Sheet Metal' Agnello.

Some of the biker nicknames are wonderfully self explanatory

I knew a Scottish biker back in the day called Filthy Frank McGoo

One of the most famous nicks I suppose was Salvatore Lucky Luciano. I visited his Mausoleum in St Johns NY, he's part of the dead celeb tour. His birth surname Lucania is over the door, apparently he renamed himself Luciano because his father disowned him for being involved with the Mafia.

He also has a lookalike right here on Boards. Spitting image.
