@Moy - there's white poly tape on that reel. Although l've started to graduate ontovpoly wire on other reels though. I find l can space stakes further apart with poly wire as opposed to tape. Further spacing = less stakes = quicker to erect and take down. I've gone for 15 live strands in the polywire (pel 'jumbo') to make sure they're is always good current on the line.

I'm not strip grazing as such. That trough serves 4 paddocks divided up with galvanised tying wire. Then l spilt these paddocks in two again on the diagonal with the poly reels so that they are grazing a triangle really with trough in one corner. The reel is always kept nearest the trough so that the fence can be easily opened and then reallined to give access to water when they are moved to fresh section.

@JDI - Yes this is aftergrass. They are on second rotation around it. I'l top as they move on. It really could do with a bag of 10-10-20. Did this last year and got great results but doubt it'll get anything now til spring when l'll lace it with slurry.

Do you mind me asking what sort of money the pel jumbo is? 15 strands sounds a serious job to be fair! Think its 9 wore we have and it seems to be lasting very well so far!

Ask away. Just checked through receipts - €26.50 for 300m roll. Not cheap but l'm hoping to get a good few years use out of it. And nothing worse than it burning out and only power on part of the line. It could be overkill but feck it! :)

That sounds reasonable enough to me! Its a fairly thick one id imagine at 15cores? 6mm rope sorta size?

Maybe not quite 6mm but yeah it's heavier than your ordinary stuff. It'll still go through the slit in plastic stakes l use no problem.

have 1 very similar since we were suckling, use it for shelter for young lambs now, have a lamb gate so ewes cant get in

I presume it has bird flaps (can't really see) and there is a very small mod I'd do the entrance , but let's see if you find out

    hope it serves you well

Never have much hassle with birds here, the cats keep them away for most of it and as it's only nuts instead of crunch they're not mad on them anyway.

Our last one was pretty much fallen apart, lasted 20 years! This wasn't too bad either, €300 for labour and steel had to be provided so about 2-300 more:confused: (I'm not good at guessing steel prices!!)

some how i doubt if you are unable to weld, but like me if you just want to learn how to weld uphill or over head there is very good stick and mig welding tips and videos on u tube my preference is one bloke i thing he calls himself Nooby (not sure ) and if you have the basics their videos are as good as some of the tutors ive had over the years,

That's just keep welding till you have enough weld on it so it won't break :D

Well it's a start. Just start messing around with it and you'll get the hang of it soon enough. I learned through a fas evening course. You could see if any were being run near you over the winter

If they're like lambs, they'll eat the ration in preference to the grass......leaving the feeder only to go for water

Gets put in in small amounts 3 times a day so they can't stuff themselves at least!
