Celebrities passing away, I often feel indifferent about their passing, there are few I truly love.

12 hours later... the news still really hurts! Robin Williams was one of those 'up there' I really loved.

The world has truly lost something great, and has become a whole lot darker... But I'd imagine heaven became a whole lot brighter.

I remember when Gary Speed died, that hit me very hard. There was man that seemed to have it all.

Robin I knew was a manic depressive and he struggled with it for so long. Sometimes you are on top, others it is. Then you can no longer fight.

    RIP Robin

That was a real shocker...the guy was on Football Focus (I think it was) the day before, laughing and seemingly in good spirits.

To be honest, as sad as I am about Robin Williams, I'm not exactly shocked by how he died. I always felt he had a darker side to him.

When Owen Wilson tried to check himself out...wow, now that was out of the blue for me.

He was terrific in Good Will Hunting as well.

    RIP.

That monologue in the park was pretty impressive.
Possibly my favourite film and he was brilliant in it.

Tragic alright, but if any one posts that yesterday was the day the laughter died, I'm closing my account.

RIP Robin you will be missed.

I think I'll watch what dreams may come later. Probably his most underrated performance.

Brilliant. The man was a genius the way he channelled all that dark stuff into comedy.

It's a very sad day Hollywood has lost a legend, an amazing actor whose versatility was off the ricter scale, one film I see hasn't got mentioned is The World according to Garp, it was pretty good I was only a kid when I seen it and it was very good !

Lot of people describing him as that cool uncle you only see every now and then. I can kinda see where they're coming from. He was just this institution growing up, it was easy to take him for granted, like the air.

His stand up was something else. My most vivid memory for some reason is not his role in Aladdin or his other excellent films, or Mork and Mindy, it's just him demonstrating that there are no sacred cows when it comes to comedy by doing an impression of Donald Duck getting a blow job:

That's powerful stuff when you've grown up with the squeaky clean image Disney try to maintain for their characters, before you've even heard Robin Williams let loose on Aladdin. Too many people are saying things like "we'll never see his like again". I bloody well hope you're wrong, we need more artistic geniuses like him.

Bumped into a man in the newsagents this morning who was visibly shocked when he saw the headlines, he looked around and said to me "I grew up with this guy on the tv, I just can't believe it" . . . .

Terribly sad that such a talented person should top themselves, specially that late in life. Depression is obviously a very powerful condition/illness.

    Happy memories,
    Nanu nanu Mork.

His "like" may exist again, but will he get the chance to become a star? Or will some pretty boy with lame jokes get the starring role?

A nice comment by Jason Manford..

"If you feel alone and down, anxious and low. If you feel deep sadness but can't find a root cause. If people tell you to 'snap out of it' or 'things can only get better' or 'what doesn't kill you makes you stronger', know that it's simply not always true. Sometimes it does kill you.

Please seek help. No one will think you're being melodramatic, I swear. No one will think you're silly or wasting people's time. No one will say 'what? But you're always so happy, maybe you're just having a bad day'. For some people, every day is a bad day and they get through it, but sometimes they stop getting through it.

If depression can (allegedly) kill Robin Williams, one of the world's greatest funny men, well it can get any of us at any time. If the Genie from Aladdin can suffer and the DJ in Good Morning Vietnam can be affected by it, then so can you, or your child or friend or work colleague.

I always remind myself of the quote from Watchmen:

"Man goes to doctor. Says he's depressed. Says life is harsh and cruel. Says he feels all alone in a threatening world. Doctor says, "Treatment is simple. The great clown Pagliacci is in town tonight. Go see him. That should pick you up." Man bursts into tears. Says, "But doctor... I am Pagliacci."

Please. Ask for help. If you have no one or if you don't want to to tell them yet, then ring Samaritans on 08457 90 90 90 for someone to talk to, or talk to your GP.

The world needs you even if you don't think it does. I promise, we need you here, now."

Elect a clown... Expect a circus

Mork and Mindy was staple viewing for me as a child. Absolutely gutted.

    RIP.

Sad news, but not a great actor imo and his stand-up stopped being funny a few decades ago.

Propensity for all his roles to descend into mawkish sentimentality.

Why would you take the time to come onto this thread and say such when clearly many people are upset about it? Your entitled to your opinion but there's a time and place.

People are saying go speak to a doctor if you feel depressed etc.

It is always easier to say go speak to someone than actually going to do it.
Many people aren't great at showing feelings.
