Can a pub maintain a ban for life?

    Hi 8 years ago I was guilty of a minor indiscretion, as in I was tipping up my own wine. I never caused trouble. 8 years on it's still being enforced. I suppose they have the right? might seem harsh but legally within their rights?.

    Ah, a pub sells drinks, OP decided she wanted to sit in the pub, pull a bottle from a bag and top up his/her glass. Scummy thing to do, out you go and don't come back.

    From a legal point of view they have the right to refuse admission for a lifetime if they like.

    A bar in my town got a new bar manager a few years ago, new door staff to boot. Zero tolerance for people acting the prick.

    A ban from the bar meant a lifetime ban. Once word got around, the place had a very good reputation and all the dickheads stayed away.

    Made for a very very good pub with a mature clientele

    You've no legal right to drink there anyway, it's a private business, they can serve who they please.

    How is it scummy? Putting up your prices the night before the Vinters Federation of Ireland put a '2 year price freeze' in place, that is scummy.

    Filling up vodka bottles with Gregs vodka and selling it at Smirnoff prices, that is scummy.

    Taking in tons of coca cola for the designated driver campaign (free coke for those driving) from the coca cola rep, and then insisting on selling it to designated drivers, that's scummy too.

    If you can get one over a pub, then do it. Pack of shysters.

    I think most pubs wouldn't mind if it was a teenager in a naggin or something because it's the thing to do and they'll grow out of it when they get older but someone sneaking in wine is taking the piss. I'd ban ya for life just on the principle of sneaking in wine of all things

    Two fellas I know were messing outside my local one Friday night and ended up going through the window. They got it fixed next morning and were sipping pints there again that night......not a thing was ever even mentioned about it bar a slagging!
    Maybe I just drink in the wrong kinda pubs tho....! :-D

    Actually until recently I didn't go near it, didn't attempt to go near it, for about 6 years, and today I ordered not alcohol, but tea, still no service, yeah they may be within their rights but they clearly don't like me for some reason, I never caused trouble and doubt I was ever drunk, I worked behind a bar myself and if they were regulars, usually you'd just tell them off, or even to an extent turn a blind eye if they were otherwise good clients,no they don't like me clearly :)

    That's what I do, I tend to do my Drinking at home now. But the pubs are now lobbying the government again. They are trying to say people drink to much, and there is no one at home to say you have had to much. They are also trying to get the price jacked up so it's prohibitively expensive to drink at home. You know so you have to go out to the pub to have a few. All the reasons they are lobbying under are total Boll*x btw.

    Completely scummy, if you want to drink on the cheap, do it outside, if you want to sit in the bar, join your friends, enjoy the atmosphere, use the facilities, listen to the music etc, then you consume the drinks bought from the proprietor.

    Of course they have the right. Never seen the ubiquitous ''we reserve the right to refuse admission''? Serious question; why did you feel the need to bring in your own wine? You were using their premises to consume your own alcohol. Hardly surprising they were pissed off, really. Yes; 8 years might seem a bit on the harsh side, but I would imagine they're on solid ground re. the legality of the ban.

    I'm sorry that gave me a good laugh, That's why a lot of them started to struggle after the smoking ban. No atmosphere, I still cant think of any locally that have any. Unless you count bar fly's on the same stool. You also either get ear splittingly loud music or terrible folk stuff.

    Does make you wonder though, If they can afford to turn away paying customers like this. Why are they lobbying the government on we cant compete with the cheap alcohol sales in Tesco and so on.

    Don't be foolish enough to give that public house any of your money ever again.

    They don't deserve it and you should go somewhere that will appreciate your money ( even if its only for a cup of tea )
