Unmoderated forums? Your thoughts.

Now I understand and appreciate the mods do a difficult job on here. And this is nothing to do with them.

But the experience on modless forums IS different from moderated forums.

Some boards have one unmoderated subforum and the rest may be moderated.

I have one other forum I post on and it's all unmoderated.

I was wondering what peoples thoughts on an unmoderated subforum might be ...it might keep trolls at bay on other forums for a start!

But also what are you experiences on unmoderated forums in comparison to here?

And do you want an unmoderated subforum on boards.

Would you like one unmoderated subforum on boards.ie? 89 votes

Yes, I would like an unmoderated subforum on Boards.ie.

    whats the point?

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

No, it'd need moderation. Otherwise it'd just turn into a homophobic/racist etc. cesspit.

A private AH-type would probably be a better idea, but it'd still need some amount of moderation to keep the trolls/lunatics at bay.

I'd like to see one, just to see the absolute chaos that would ensue.

There will always be some level of moderation given some stuff is illegal and a reputable site will not allow an anything goes type forum.

Wouldn't an unmoderated forum just be a bit like You Tube aka AH on steroids

I post on one messageboard that's fairly much unmoderated, and used to be on another (that you might also have been on. Think pink...) ;)

Sometimes, moderated forums can be overly moderated, and then you have people who see that is moderated so try to test it, making it worse that if it wasn't moderated, even if the dodgier posts are very short-lived.

If there were no Mods then maybe it would be invitation only.

Maybe if you were a total cnut someone with special powers could withdraw your invite?

They tried that with The Thunderdome but it turned into a mess and got shut down.

I don't recall there ever being much racism in the Thunderdome, although it was eventually shut down due to a sexist remark I believe.

Well I just got banned from the Android forum for helping other users...

But still saying that the mods do a very important job.

This site would go to the dogs if there were no mods.

So can I be unbanned please? :pac:

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,537 ✭✭✭Arthur Beesley

They could try making everyone a moderator. Except hotmail.com.

Unmodded forums have their place on the internet. And that place is not here.

Have to agree with you there, totally unmoderated forums would be mental. Were those teen ones where a few got mental bullying and committed suicide recently not moderated?

We have such garbage and it's called 4chan.

Are you talking about ask.fm (the yoke where you could ask questions anonymously)? That has (or used to have, haven't seen it in ages tbh) no pre-moderation AFAIK, you could report a question if it offended you or whatever but that's fairly useless because at that stage the damage is already done.

The result would be an unusable forum completely filled with spam, shilling, trolls and cr@p.
    Mostly spam.

Be careful what you wish for :)

4chan is moderated. 90% of the content on 4chan is great and SFW. The other part is /b/, their version of AH and it's still moderated. To an extent.

After seeing some of the abuse and name calling a particular OP got yesterday for having particular believes for himself,I certainally would want a moderated boards.

I am struggling to see the advantage TBH.

You would not believe the amount of spam deleted.
    This would just increase exponentially.

I agree, although I do think this place does suffer from overmoderation at times. Probably because Boards can be held accountable for anything dodgy people post (or can it?).
