This white line thing is all pointless. Markings in this country are a free for all. There are dotted white lines around blind bends, continuous lines along straights without any reason (like in that last clip). It's all based on the random engineer's opinion in that specific area.

Anyone that ignores road markings because they disagree with them is an idiot

Sometimes the incorrect markings are put down by contractors who don't think!
Are you willing to stick with the line markings that will put you or other motorists at risk!

If I drove according to white lines everyday I'd be dead hundreds of times over by now. Anyone who thinks lines are to be trusted in this country either never looks at them or is trolling

Nothing wrong when there's no traffic.

Installed my new dash cam and drove to my mates house for a test run - On the way back literally 30 mins after setting up the camera this happens,

The camera was on 1 min loops that's why the video cuts out there, He flashed his hazards to say sorry - He would have been sorry if I was driving like him.

What car is that you're driving?

Got one on Amazon 1080p good quality fairly cheap. I think its only a matter of time before these come as standard in vehicles. Might be an idea.

Not until insurance companies start to offer discounts for having them to prove that it was the other party than caused the crash.
That's why there are so many Russian crash cam videos out there.

I'd take a guess at an Isuzu Bighorn. Frightened the sh1t out of me :D

I was driving between Rathowen and Mullingar today and an Audi come's flying up behind us overtaking a line of cars and squeezes in behind me - the car behind me flashed him a couple of times because of his driving.

When he got a chance he overtook me this is where the clip starts and this overtake past me is fine but the next one is dangerous.

Good to see you leaving plenty of space. So few drivers do.

For example, the Primera in dickwod1's clip above who was indicating they were going to continue around the roundabout.

My driving instructor told me to never believe cars indicating, until they make their maneuver.

Not in mine. More like 50:1.

I am an optimist, and I do enjoy when another fella motorist indicates. It isn't as bad as you think - you only remember the bad ones.

There are areas/towns/cities where the ratio might be different. 50:1 is an overstatement imo.

I'll be honest. The car in front of the Audi shold have moved over a bit to allow the overtake sooner. I would have given him room myself. Let him on.

Did you see the car parked on a hard shoulder? And there was another one joining the road later on.

As much as I prefer to let someone go if he is in such an "emergency situation", I do not see a reason to go over to the hard shoulder at that speed.

It wasn't a slow moving vehicle in front - if you are so fast, overtake everything you like, don't expect everyone to pull over to the hard shoulder full of a crap so you can overtake safely.

Or buy yourself a fast car - so you can do it quickly enough without expecting the rest of the traffic to accomodate you.

There was 30 seconds between the parked car and the van pulling out. So about half a mile. Fair enough, you don't HAVE to move over. But I'd rather an aggressive driver in front of me than behind.
A bit rich coming from me the way I drive myself, but my thoughts nevertheless.

I rather don't move into the hard shoulder unless I have to.

    This just shows why.

A bit rich() coming from me, too - but hey, if you want to go ahead of everyone else - floor it and go away. Don't expect me to accomodate every single driver who wants to overtake just for the sake of it.

    That's your opinion.
In my opinion, anyone who obeys road markings like a lemming, when they are not made with any sense is rather idiot (or sucker is probably better word).

On the same journey back when I got to the Dunboyne railway bridge between Lucan and Clonee a car skids across the top of the bridge onto my side of the road and then gets it back together - Huge skid left on the white lines from it.

Well, I watched it several times, in high res - to make sure, and all I can see is car which just took a bend bit wide and ended up in the middle of the road for a while.
    No sign of any skid.

I know that road well. In my opinion, the car was going too fast, and the driver wasn't too familiar with the bridge. There is a tight bend right at the crest which could catch you out if you didn't know about it. I'd say that driver might be a bit more cautious next time.

Indeed there is plenty, in several places.
    Most likely from trucks.
But I still can't see the honda skidding.

Doesn't matter really - whoever drove that honda to the middle of the road on blind bend on the bridge like that, deserves the worst.

Cool, forget the skid, If I had of been at that point at that time he would have hit me. The same warning signs and road markings in my video are on the far side for him to see to.

I don't understand why they built that road to suit the bridge as apposed to building the bridge to suit the road. Yeah it's a bit more awkward building a bridge at an angle but It would be a whole lot safer.
It could have something to do with land rights or whatever though, I'm not from around there but pass by a lot.

This is an example of defensive driving theology that I too subscribe too, I also always pull over, let him on, I'll even take the next turn that I don't even want in extreme cases.

There are frames missing as far as I can tell. On my computer the car jumps back across the road.

Same can be said for clueless drivers.

Witnessed a leaner in city center today go between lanes as if they didn't exist and nearly drive through a red light and run people over! Jammed on the breaks and skid...in a micra!
